One thing on that trailer that really surprised me was Uchida Maaya sounding so mature; I really thought was voiced by someone like Kaida Yuuko or Asano Mayumi.

This so very much. The male MC looks fine, but new Sakura looks like Kizuna Ai, the blond looks generic as fuck while begging for elf ears, and the loli has ugly face on top of terrible fashion sense in both colors and shapes.

The way her hair and eyes are colored are much more like AI, not to mention the huge pink ribbon.

More like the older fans (which still make a big portion of the current game/anime otaku) are just ridiculously loyal. Sakura Taisen was a pioneer of anime-style games: "simulator" gameplay (eg. Fire Emblem, Super Robot Taisen, and "Wars" series) with VN presentation (read-only scenes, animated opening movie, lots of voice acting). It was made by Sega of its prime right after Eva bloomed the whole industry, so it's no wonder it became such phenomenon in Japan.

MC has a great design. Reminds me of Seb from Evil Within.

The choice of Tite Kubo was fine, and I like the MC. But I'm just curious why he didn't get more /fa/ with their attire, and especially why he deviated so far from original Sakura design. I understand the other Sakura Taisen games also had different-looking Sakuras, but this is supposed to be a grand revival. Stick with the classic, man.

The character need to fit the era so he can't go full /fa/ with their cloths. I suppose he also wanted to play it safe for the revival and not upset the existing fanbase while trying to appeal to a newer generation. I'm curious if the game will have 2d cut scene.

It's funny that the character design I like the most would be the male protag. He's the kinda lad I would hang out and share drinks with. He looks cool. And, look, I understand why the team needed to change a lot of things since this is an all-new cast, but seriously, just Sakura. Just make Sakura have the classic look. Change the rest as much as you want but retain the old Sakura look. She's pivotal if you want to "play it safe".

Whatever, I'm still gonna preorder the limited edition of the Jap release. I'm so invested in the series I *have* to buy it.
