Yeah, spoilers have never bothered me much anyway and LOGH is especially the kind of series where just knowing "X Happens" doesn't take away any of the intrigue of seeing it happen.
So far I think my favorite episode has actually been Julian researching earth history.

For sure, it's hardly believable that humanity explores the stars and doesn't find a single planet that doesn't have more resources suitable for sustaining humanity than Earth. I don't think it's ever stated, but I can only assume that better resources was the reason Odin became the new capital of humanity. Honestly LoGH's realism becomes better the more you read scifi about other futuristic societies and realize how LoGH is one of the best portrayals of what intergalactic human society might be like. The only real outlier is the possibility of aliens.

They never really do tackle the alien life question, do they? My assumption so far is that they just expanded outward and never found any. Certainly nothing intelligent.
The possibility of them existing somewhere out there though, I think, lends credibility to Kaiser Reinhard's goal of uniting humanity. Best to have a unified system in place if you might eventually have to defend your species against invaders.

The strength of LoGH's setting is that it's built on the idea that no matter the time or place, humans will remain the same and human society will always take on similar characteristics. That's why in despite being a space opera one side is a bunch of LARPing Prussians with space ships and feudalism. It's the idea that you've seen this shit before and you'll see it again. It's a great representation of a classic idea.

Absolutely, it shows that the author is a historian rather than a writer. Which also explains . The point is to explore humanity by showing the same behaviors on a large scale rather than showing how humanity reacts to completely foreign behaviors in the form of alien life.

I don't remember it flopping. It didn't do amazingly well or anything though. Haven't heard about a continuation, but anymore the way anime production goes, the thing seems to be to just adapt what you can and leave it open to future adaptations, and LoGH has already proven it's a series that can wait decades to beadapted.
