Will Phos be ever happy again?

when you rewatch the first few episodes is the only time she will be happy
"""she"""
The real question is, will phos ever stop suffering?
i get the feeling she'll sacrifice herself in the end
Phos is either going to become human or else die
Either way, no happiness
>Phos is either going to become human
how could that even be possible biologically
The series takes place in a universe with anthropomorphic talking gems and disembodied souls living on the moon
Are you really asking me that
Looks pretty happy to me
Robot-Buddha magic can do it.
Ok real talk here:
1. did he know he was that broken?
2. does he know what the defect is?
3. can he speak about that, assuming Phos can make him?
4. can he do something about that or suggest a way to repair him?
1. Yes, he spoke about it to the gems on Earth previously
2-4. Maybe, but it's almost certain it's something he can't talk about. It might be a spiritual or emotional thing rather than something physically wrong with him, in which case it seems the better path would be to somehow find someone or something else that can pray the lunarians away, or give them peace.
After this display of turning things into lotus petals just by being activated, it doesn't seem there's much limit to what Sensei could do aside from praying, if he is commanded to do so.
Creepy how much she changed
when she stops existing
video games can briefly make her forget about her earthly worries
>1. Yes, he spoke about it to the gems on Earth previously
I meant realizing exactly the extent to which he is -not being able to pray even when asked to by Phos, not just that he's broken
>2-4. Maybe, but it's almost certain it's something he can't talk about.
It's nearly certain that he sees Phos as human-like, seeing as Phos could ask him about true nature (which he couldn't disclose to the gems), he said he couldn't fight Phos and was activated for the first time ever.
If he knew what the bug is it's not a stretch to imagine he could tell Phos
>earthly worries
*moonly
I bet bortz has a mini-whip used solely for Shinsha
>still no BDSM Bortz art
She will. After freeing all the Lunarians and killing all the Snails/establishing a decent resource source for Snails, Phos will use the "Vanishing" method Cairn-hime developed and reach eternal slumber. That's Phos' absolute happiness.
I finished the show yesterday and fuck it's so good I want a second season!
Probably not going to happen until late 2020 at best
If you like the show don't read the manga.
So there's hope?
The anime did pretty well on all accounts and there's easily material for another cour at least so yes, it's just that Orange isn't a big studio (although they're growing) and they already announced they're doing Beastars
If you like the show read the manga.
No.
Also no.
Not that user but isn't watching Phos's suffering and complete psyche remodel what attracts everyone?
What I'm really into is the mysterious setting and the transhumanist theme. Considering this, how should I feel about the manga?
no, phos is for bullying and suffering
A lot of the mystery around the setting gets cleared, but the transhumanist/ship of theseus themes are still very much present. I know some people prefered it when some things weren't known, but some more interesting conflicts have come up since then
Didn't know about the Ship of Theseus paradox, but I can see how it is a theme in the anime even if it's implicit and basically never touched. Is it different in the manga?
The mango really cranks it up, but not in the exact direction as most western tanshumanist or mystery scifi/fantasy takes it.
The anime is open enough and vague enough to interpret under a western lens - Ship of Theseus, Plato's Cave, transhumanism, and even Christian symbolism - but the mango takes us further and further in, and by revealing more of its depths we come to realise that it is created with authorial intent to read under the eastern lens of Buddhism etc.
Ifyou stick around, people start going on about various esoteric Buddhist, Hindu, Confucian... ideas, as the mango incorporates elements from multiple schools of Buddhism, which each have Vedic, Confucian and other influences.
This is not to say that the western-centric takes are necessarily wrong, more that the takes are ambiguous in the anime and early mango, while the Eastern symbolism, names and themes are revealed more later on.
The fanbase appears to be divided on the transhumanism theme. It seems half of the fanbase would welcome a sci-fi explanation with mutants, robots, nanomachines and dimensional mindfucks. The other half of the fanbase would prefer a purely supernatural development with souls, redemption and heaven. I predict that the author will continue to keep everything vague between both, not too sci-fi but with room for a supernatural interpretation. But I'm pleasantly surprised because when I first started reading this story I assumed the story would be more like 90% supernatural and 10% sci-fi, but the author really insisted on bringing advanced technology into the mix, playing with the popular idea that sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
The limits of who Phos is gets pushed quite a bit more, pic related as a big spoiler, although the ship of theseus is never explicitly mentioned, of course. I suppose it could technically apply to the lunarians, maybe?
Unluckly enough that's not my field but I can get that what you are saying makes sense. It's only natural for an asian media to be more influenced by asian philosophy.
I have mixed feelings about it, but I really enjoyed anime as Lain and Eva, who have the same 50%-ish approach so that's probably fine.
Anyway with this anime I finally realized which is my genre, even if I still don't see know how to label it. Others anime/manga like this, Eva, Ergo Proxy or Lain?
Regarding transhumanism, I think most people welcome it in itself, but to include common sibling tropes like hidden dimension people or robotic overlords or mutant ecosystem collapse would overall be damaging to the atmosphere of the series, which, given its minimalism, plays out more like a Waiting for Godot than Les Miserables. This is not to say that shows with similar theming but many more facets in play are inherently bad, but rather that the minimal number of characters and relatively sparse background adds to this series in a way that I believe going full Darling in the Franxx on would be irreconcilable with its original ascetic charm.
final fight when?
Haven't seen the spoiler, but the fact that they get their part replaced and they lose part of theirselves in the process is 100% Ship of Thesus themed.
It's the same with us humans tho, we like completely change our cells every 7 year or so, don't we?
It isn't my field either, I have just become enlightened from hanging out around this thread's friendly Buddhists and Rohini-shippers
Hey is this show finished? like did the story finish? Is it wrapped up all nice like with a bow or is there still more to come?
>Eingehender Bosskampf:
>Phos (weiß abgeschlossen)
vs.
>Phos (zukünftige Grausamkeit)
The shoe ends with the most enigmatich character saying the name of the protagonist... So no.
S1 wrapped itself up nicely, concluding one arc, but it is nowhere near the levels of suffering it has yet to reach. Check out the manga in the meantime.
S2 will be when?
Still going for the forseeable future. Those of us who are inclined to think that way suggest that the manga will finish at about chapter 108 since that's a significant number in Buddhism, and the manga is at chapter 77.
Started and caught up with manga the other day. Antarcticite arc hit me harder don't know if that just because I knew what was going to happen but being able to go your own pace, letting different parts sink in rather than continuously moving on to the next scene feels like it helps. The art is enjoyable like not heavily detailed at times but it can be when it wants to be, the use of hard black/white and the compositing is what stands out the most.
You got me, I'll pick up the manga.
>even if I still don't see know how to label it.
Soft sci-fi?
en.wikipedia.org
It's a really vague term but it stands as the opposite of hard sci-fi.
>no
>the manga isn't done either
I'll probabaly never watch it then. I can't stand anime that aren't finish and by the time it is finished i prabably wont be watching anime anymore
I don't know, from the examples it's not really what I'm looking for. It's stuff that I'm into anyway but it doesn't feel like the correct label.
That's a bit of the shame since the show is good, but you would be disappointed for sure so that's for the better.
I want to share the last houseki fanart I saved. As you can see the flagrance of suffering is delicate, a subtle sting, a poignant sensation of loss for a gem thus shattered both inside and outside, the flowers of pain blooming like into a transient bouquet, sublime and ephemeral.
The manga itself doesn't elaborate much further from what one can see in the anime about the transhumanist themes actually, there might definitely more to come but it's been a slow burn and some of that of course feels less novel the more prolonged the exposition to it
If anything the mangaka seems really fixated on blurring the line between human and non-human, making both eerie in a sense. If you read her other works, which are collected in two anthologies, most of them are about nonhuman things becoming humans and viceversa
Well, humanity itself being a distant, forgotten relic already creates a suspenceful atmosphere that cleans most of those tropes out
>It's only natural for an asian media to be more influenced by asian philosophy.
Not really though, it's more like because the mangaka is a graduate of a buddhist school. Just like the Altair's mangaka having a degree on Turk history from Todai.
Oh ok, that's make even more sense!
Genki Phos (-torso) can't even lift that sword.
why is everyone so mean to faus
It seems to me that 2. yes and 3. no. And 4. no/not yet. Whatever is "broken" (or more likely, he's never been logged into with root access) he seems to be aware of but not permitted to speak of. On the other hand, there's still the famous early scene where he almost accidentally prays while sleeping. It's a mystery.
I just realised that no matter how Phos changed, she still remained with that face and that personality in my mind.
As such I shall now reject Phos monster cuck edition™ and await for genki phos to come back one way or another.
VIVA EARTH GEMS
Because they have wisdom that flies in the face of their status quo. Do it to a human sometime. Tell them something they hold dear isn't true or doesn't exist. Insist. Keep insisting. Show them evidence even if they don't like it. They'll probably hit you.
Also because Phos greeted them with a sword, and Padparascha went on a murder-happy-bender.
So they react violently now.
when is phos going to lose his torso?
Phos just got their entire body exploded with no guarantee of repair any time soon
Either the Lunies will be pissed their lego-project failed, or the moon gems will be pissed that their friends have become fucking cavemen.
literally me
But he's not like that anymore. And that was probably Euclase's version of phos.
Yeah what was up with Pad? I didn't expect him to remorselessly cut everyone down then again didn't expect Cinnabar to try spray them with mercury seeing as it's permanent damage for them.
he got attacked first I think
Sex with NuGoshe!
What if you were kissing MuMorga and she said ";;;;"?
This. This panel of Phos is really good and characteristic, but you have to remember that it's seen from Euclase's perspective, and is basically a representation 50% Lapis and 50% moon spookiness. Euclase literally says "What if it's not Phos anymore?". We know however that Phos is still pretty much Phos, so what Euclase says isn't accurate.
So the pearl eye really was a camera all along?
Did Phos even understand what 'surveillance' meant since teletransmission was completely foreign to him?
Wouldn't that mean that any future arc would need the eye (or maybe just the pupil) to be substituted if Phos doesn't want Aechmea to spy on what he's doing?
He literally allied with the enemy
Rutile tried to gouge their chest out of them. The NAP got broken and shit went downhill fast.
Yellow is sort of a pussy but their reaction was definitely The Reader's reaction.
he has always been an abomination
ouch
I wish that happened.
That panel has to happen at least a day after that Jade/Euclase conversation so I think it's less Euclase's perspective and more Phos being drawn explicitly more uncanny to evoke the same feeling in the readership. Up to that point we'd seen everything from Phos's point of view, but the outfit, the doritos and the creepy eye are a bit weird when seen from the outside and the moon stories he starts telling only corroborate the suspect that there's something spooky at work.
The context of the panel is literally Euclase thinking back on Phos, while not even being in the same room as him.
she/he = based people
they/gemb*tts= cringey tumblrs
You faggots better be buying the volumes, just bought the first one yesterday and its fucking gorgeous especially the full page and double page shots.
This but unironically
"they" is an acceptable pronoun for ambiguous/unknown individuals in the english language.
Volume 9 should arrive current april.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH
I LOVE PHOS!!!
Phos has spent time on the moon and she has seen computer screens. She should understand technology by now on a basic level, at least she should grasp the concept that screens can show things from afar. Phos is currently trying to work with the Lunarians so she needs to keep the pearl eye. She figures if she can fix Sensei and make him pray then the peace between Lunarian and Gems can continue. If she ever abandons that plan and starts doublecrossing the moonies she'll likely rip out the pearl eye and crush it under her gold heel.
What is the best uniform, and why is it the new spring uniform?
>kafka reference
stop with the bullshit suffering meme
the only people who suffer are those who wait for monthly releases reading a 10 second chapter
I have reasons to suspect that the manga could start getting translated in my country by the end of the year. If there's no announcement in some months, I'm buying the English or French version and will add the original to that order
no lie detected
it's a neat design that would fit well into other manga and settings
>he hasn’t bought all 9 raw manga volumes already
HnK is unironically one of the series thats anime is better than the manga. Gems' gloss and sound when they break/touch adds a lot to the experience.
>HnK
I love the manga to pieces but that will never ever evoke houseki first in my mind
this
cute
If summer uniform is mourning clothes are they for Helliodor?
All the gemlet outfits are funerary in some manner, from what i recall.
but it sounds really awkward
>Still shilling this 3DCG janky garbage
timetostop
nobody really likes the anime but the manga is pretty good
3d Shinsha is very cute
Reboot in 2D when
It's not the summer uniform that represents mourning (as in the winter shouldn't), it's the black and the ties.
What do you think?
Five minutes.
She was, once
>he buys the english volumes
I love Phos, every day!
Was there a chapter this month/ i missed it
look in mangadex
I usually don't buy manga since im waiting until i learn enough moonrunes to be able to read them but this one is too damn good to pass, ill gladly double dip
thanks
where's the thread where the spoilers came out? cant find it
The only one left in the archive is
Is Yellow as powerful as Paddy?
thank you
Lunarians deserve their suffering, unlike the gems
No.
At this point all he can do to find peace is to be obliterated.
no lol dumb rock
Isn't that the point with the inmortality of the gems though? That always through some twisted murphys law they'll always end up back together
the manga will never surpass this level of kino
prove me wrong
The moon is full of greater levels of kino
The scenes with the melting city, the bismuth crystals, the wedding...
Yellow admitted herself that she only survived that long due to her quick legs, not fighting capabilities.
Maybe we'll get a new Lapis-Phos convo now that they're out of commision.
Lunarians did nothing wrong. They just want to die
The Lunarians by default did something wrong because they're literally the dregs of humanity who have taken out their inability to pass on out on new species for no other reason than to try and get a toaster they can't figure out fixed
listen this is a neat image but Laphos would wipe the floor with old Phos parts
Post the powerlevel chart.
Lapis making a comeback is overdue, or at least a journey through Phos' subconscious/inclusions
Need dominatrix Bortz with garters and handcuffs and mask
fuck off you avatarfag
surprised they didn't geld you yet
