To each their own. I wish there were more gender bending animes as good as Ranma. I love how it's always used in certain circumstances, like slutting around to get free shit, or using your tits to distract someone, or using your new sex appeal to gain an upper hand. Makes for some great concepts imo. Recently got into it because I was specifically looking for a good Gender Bending anime and Ranma came up and I fell in love with everything about it, the gender bending was just an entry point for me. Still my favorite aspect of the show tho

I never EVER watched Ranma, the idea has been done countless times as one-shot episodes in comedy shorts.
But how did this particular interpretation execute it? Considering it's an entire series with on-going story, they probably managed to land some unique episodes and executions which one-shot boy turned girl didn't work with.

You saw the show because it was on tv and soon the characters grew on you. Sort of like a family.

Like and said, the gender bending isn't the series' focus, which is actually on Ranma's complex web of relationships and rivalries, it's just a gimmick that is used to generate plot hooks and comedy (and the occasional flashed boob). Seriously, you could probably take the gender-bending out entirely and Ranma 1/2 would still stand on its own merits, in the form of the crazy mixed up world of love and martial arts and all the weirdo characters.
