It is not known how they are impregnated. I'm only an anime only, but I doubt the manga details this. It could be:
1. Normal reproduction including free partner choice and romance

Artificial insemination is most likely. It's efficient, and they can keep the highest IQ sperm and reuse it over and over. Normal reproduction takes too long and leads to sub-optimal results. The other choices are viable only for bad doujins.

Removing Ray's inner revelation was a mistake.
Not making this and episode 11 an hour long special to keep the momentum and tension was a mistake.
At least the Goldie Pond arc will probably be better suited to an anime, given the comparative lack of inner monologue and complex schemes.
Hopefully the animation quality holds up when it comes to more bombastic action scenes.

From chapter 1. I'm not even feeding you the classic Yea Forums line, either. The anime cut some important stuff, and is a different kind of story because of the way it's delivered and paced. And there are things that you'll read in the later chapters that won't have much impact because you lack the context that the show removed.
If you don't really care about everything having the intended impact, then start with chapter 38.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it bad. But it makes all the characters feel much less active and in ontrol because it totally removes the element of the limited omniscient POV in the manga.
The manga is basically a series of plans and revelations that are constantly being thwarted and twisted by a constant flow of new information and new conflicts.
The anime simplifies everything a fair amount, which might have been for the best, but might not have been. Some scenes really fall flat, and others are baffling.
One example is Krone and her doll. The doll is an anime only plot element, as is Krone screaming about her plans in the middle of the night like a fool. She comes off as more cerebral and calculated in the manga, and her scheming is done in her own thoughts, so it doesn't feel like Isabella knows her plans because the dumb bitch was literally shouting it at her through the walls of the house, and more like the actions Krone takes reveal small bits of her intentions that, in retrospect, form a picture of her intent.
Stuff like that was lost in the anime in my opinion.

I wouldn't call it "bad" but 12 episodes weren't enough. The insistence on turning internal monologues into shouting to themselves was annoying though.
