This anime was kind of 'eh' until Norman was gone. Emma finally feels like a main character.
At least it got a S2 for the story to get started though I don't mind looking at this episode as the final one of the series if it only gets worse after this as it was a very conclusive finale.

It's more interesting without Norman because Norman has infinite intelligence and all his plans work. People complain about Emma's plot convenience. Norman just so happens to not get killed and find a group of superhuman allies. And is now the leader of an army. Ray just kinda becomes nothing. Emma and Norman are competing to see which retarded unrealistic shit can happen but Norman is definitely getting all the glory while Emma is a more flawed character. There's no tension when Norman is with them because the dude is Jesus. Ray and Emma actually have to struggle to get shit done, and that's more fun that watching Superman.

When Ray/Emma make a plan they fail sometimes so it feels more rewarding than it succeeds. You can't be about le mind games when the character is omniscient.

As soon as Norman came back there was tension again because his plans/ideologies clash with Emma. There's actually something to discuss considering both sides have validity whereas before it was just the kids going from one place to another.

He's shipped off to some other farm and disappears for half the manga, for all means and purposes he thought he had to sacrifice himself. Now too he has a plan that's doomed to fail because he's not the MC, but he's more fun to follow than Emma since her plans are all typical shounen idealism while he is considerably more ruthless in his methods.

I don't disagree but the original argument was that there is more tension without Norman and that's not true at all. Without Norman Emma always gets what she wants anyway, when Norman is there he has to make compromises and he gets his way less than she does.
