Yeah but there is no good entry level anime on Netflix other than deathnote and i thought deathnote isn't really that great as a first anime.
VEG is pretty borish at the beggining but it gets really good later on and i wanted something with a strong ending that will make him want more.
On the other hand i thought about Erased too, it has a really shitty ending, but the rest of the episodes are pretty cool and end with clifhangers so it would keep him going.
I probably fucked up with VEG but who knows

Death Note is really mainstream at this point, so it doesn't really feel like anime, i mean it feels like one, but by watching death note i think it's harder to get into anime than by watching something more obscure. It's the same with people that only have seen AOT or MHA and nothing else, watching something mainstream won't make you an anime fan. At least i think so

You should've picked an entry show.
VE is not lighthearted at all, the pacing is considerably slow, the story and characters take themselves seriously and the protagonist is a tough one to get into.
On the bright side, your friend probably doesn't like anime because of anime related cliches, of which VE has little of.
But still, you should've given him Death Note or FMA. Those are as entry level as it gets.

Kinda. As much as I love this show(it is anime of the decade), it's not good for newbies. From an artistic and audiovisual standpoint this is the diamond standard of tv anime. If he watches this first he might have a hard time appreciating other anime. Once he's seen the best, nothing will impress him anymore. It gives people unrealistically high expectations for anime. Ideally you want to watch at least 150 shows before touching this.
