what's the premise again, tell me.

That's not Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen, so you're wrong.

Aa kono mama bokutachi no koe ga

Based. It feels so good to be a Shinkaichad.

Hunter x Hunter is better.

Stop shitposting my favorite anime you falseflagger

A boy falls in love with a girl.

No, but I'd absolutely be willing to call it the best shonen tv anime ever.

Let's not do this in this thread, please.

but I wanna watch anime NOW and not actual years later

Mitsuha is a dumb name

>tfw it's my favorite anime but i can't enjoy it because Yea Forums hates it
conflicted
>inb4 >letting Yea Forums affect your enjoyment of things
I can't help it when I'm a NEET and spend all my time on here. This is my only human interaction and I'd rather not be on the side of losers and be bullied.

mob psycho says hi

there are pretty pictures

Koe no katachi was better

This post is off-topic.

These, but unironically

>has better animation + music
>fear and loathing in my ears

Boy meets girl meets body-swap.

Not even the best anime in the series

meh, overrated

best jojo.

Attached: tonio.png (1920x1080, 2.66M)

I gave it 5/10. Im not into love stories'n'shiet.

Sorry but it's cringe

People are going go shit on you for this opinion, but I rightfully agree. I love the music and animation so much. Watching this movie you can just tell its something special that was crafted with love and care.

sekai no hashikko made kieru koto naku

I watched it Dub by complete accident. Am I missing out on anything by not watching the sub?

*op is 12* :- ) *also, roleplays*

Sub is way better, especially when they swap bodies.

yes

9.14 on MyAnimeList, can't be as bad as Yea Forums says.

>anime cliches: the moobie

tropes are not bad

This movie is unironically my favorite movie.

Same

wow this is the best anime because it looks pretty and was a cute love story. i've only seen 10 anime but i'm positive no other anime comes close becuase it's the highest grossing anime movie of all time and has a 9+ score on MyAnimeList and is popular on YouTube and Reddit. It might have had poor characters and plot but it is still a masterpiece and you can't change my mind becuase I have good taste despite being a casual anime fan

>i've only seen 10 anime but i'm positive no other anime comes close
I've seen 900 and I hold this opinion
>It might have had poor characters and plot but it is still a masterpiece and you can't change my mind
It was moving and has a ton of rewatch value, you shouldn't be able to change my mind. Liking/disliking things because of their flaws instead of their strengths is shit taste.

It was good. Nothing exceptional outside of some slick animation. Too full of rom gimmicks to be called a masterpiece.

(You)

What are your top 10 anime?

thats not violet chadgarden

>actually like this movie
>can't discuss it on Yea Forums without the board's contrarianism kicking in and shitposting until the thread is dead

its space dandy all over again

I liked it and i cried so what, you got a problem buddy?

>I've seen 900 and I hold this opinion
You know this doesn't make you sound more valid, just more dumb for having watched 900 anime and having Kimi no Na wa as your undisputed GOAT.

This movie's popularity baffles me. It's not bad but there's literally nothing remarkable about it.

VEG has gorgeous visuals but absolutely nothing else going for it.

Kimi no Na wa
End of Evangelion
ef: a tale of memories
Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita
Kaguya-hime no Monogatari
Ookami to Koushinryou
School Days
Bakemonogatari
Nichijou
Hyouka

Sometimes Laputa, Lupin III: Cagliostro, REC, 3-gatsu, Joshiraku and Kino no Tabi make their way on the list

What anime do you like?

I cried too, friend. That one part where Taki drinks half of Mitsua and he falls backwards and it has that beautiful animated sequence where it goes through her whole life up until that point was so beautifully animated and directed I was actually crying with my girlfriend

Can I get a rundown on Space Dandy? I noticed it was on Netflix and thought I might give it a try

.

It's mostly episodic and has a lot of talent behind it, especially with the animation. And despite having a very laid back approach to the show (it's not trying to have some epic narrative, it's just trying to entertain) it has a lot of really amazing moments that can touch on a lot of interesting themes. Dandy himself, despite behind a huge goofball, is really fucking unique. His reaction to death and relationships, etc. is pretty unique.

My favorite part, and I'm not sure how to exactly explain it, is the world building. It just feels like a huge dream world. Like if humanity had colonized the entire universe that was endless and ended up in some bizzare utopia that was really casual and yet still had war. It's not for everyone and I'm not gonna pull a HxH and say 'IT'S THE GREATEST MOST AMAZING THING AND COMPLEX THING EVER" but it's a favorite of mine, it won't waste your time.

Yea Forums was really shitty when it aired though. Because the dub was released first they detailed all the threads out of spite since they saw it as "american"

Attached: ketaiKimiNo.jpg (864x970, 116K)

It's on Netflix? I couldn't find it. I have to watch it on Adult Swims website.
>quick rundown
I only recently starter watching it but it's an anthology about 3 Space travelers (one's a human, one's an old robot, one's a space cat) as they travel the universe looking for undiscovered aliens so they can register them to make money. Every episode has a different director so they can feel really different from the last, and the animation is beyond fantastic. Also watch the Dub, it's how it's meant to be watched.

>I want to die

Attached: I want to die.jpg (675x477, 137K)

Was ruined by the "timeskip and we both forgot everything that happened" bullshit

If Iiked (loved) your name, will I like this?

No it wasn't. Even if it was a common trope it worked well and made the ending have a satisfying and ambiguous conclusion

but that was the whole point. That's like one of the biggest themes of the movie how can you hate that point

Much appreciated friendos, I’ll get onto watching it now.

The Eromanga-sensei OVA has better romance.

I thought the ending dropped the ball and was too out of left field. And this in a movie in which a girl finds a nut that tatoos her with a number that lets her jump through time.

Is the animation good at least?

It was bland and soulless as fuck. You can only like this anime if you're 16 yo and you're impressed by shitty visual effect and gimmicky use of rotating camera shot.

there must be a lot of 16 year olds in japan then

A boy impregnates a girl.

I bet you think Masaaki Yuasa shows have soul.

Yeah, it's pretty great.

I like it. It’s not near the best anime film out there, let alone anime in general. What’s even there to compare between serialized shows and a movie anyway though? The comparison falls flat when you consider the limitations and advantages of both desu

That's not Hyouge Mono.

>her dad is a retard and her mom is dead
Checks out

It's actually one of my favorite anime, but Shinkai himself said that it shouldn't be praised so much and that he felt it had some glaring flaws. There's no way that he didn't care about it and love it, but those aren't the words of somebody who "crafted it with love and care".
Regardless, it feels good to be a Shinkaichad and I can't wait for Weathering With You. I still firmly believe that Your Name having a happy ending was a once-in-a-lifetime miracle and Shinkai will go back to making making painful endings. That's actually fine by me.

His reasoning was actually that Masashi Andou (the art director) wanted to do a lot more with the film but they didn't have enough money (it was relatively low budget). It doesn't have anything to do with how much care he put into it.

That's not Kino no Tabi

Attached: mpv-shot0004.jpg (839x478, 48K)

wasn't the author of the manga a pedo?

>Shinkai himself said that it shouldn't be praised so much and that he felt it had some glaring flaws
I’m skeptical when artists critique their own work, because by and large if they aren’t shilling for it, they’ll be harsher than most on it. That’s just what people do when they actually wanna get better at something, if they already thought they were perfect they’d never improve, and so I generally don’t let that influence my opinion.

Your name was low budget? The fuck? Its insanely gorgeous

People tend to get very autistic when it comes to subs and dubs, and will almost always screech that the sub is superior. However, the sub really is superior to the dub here.
Not to shit on some of the English VAs, especially since I'm fond of Sinterniklaas, but the sub voices really shine when it comes to the body swaps. Mitsuha in Taki's body really comes across as a very effeminate, doormat of a boy while Taki in Mitsuha's body comes across as a more assertive, brash girl. Mind that Mitsuha!Taki and Taki!Mitsuha are still being voiced by their original VAs. Mitsuha's still trying to pretend that she's Taki, and Taki's still trying to pretend that he's Mitsuha. So the voice actors not only have to act as their own roles, but they also have to act as somebody else who is not their character, who is in turn pretending TO BE THEIR CHARACTER. That's no small talent. I generally shit on the Harry Potter series a lot, but one scene that will always impress me is the scene in which Hermione shapeshifts into that LeStrange chick. In the film, that role was played by LeStrange's original actor. So LeStrange's actor had to play as somebody else pretending to be her character. So she was trying to mimic somebody who would be trying to mimic her own mannerisms, while sometimes succeeding and sometimes failing. That's not easy, but she did it, for once scene. Taki's and Mitsuha's VAs had to do that for approximately a third of a movie. The Japanese voice actors executed that job much better, and the movie benefits from it.

I said relatively. It's budget was around 370 million yen (including advertising), compared to Masashi Andou's most recent works at the time - Omoide no Marnie and Kaguya-hime - which had budgets of 1.2 billion yen and 5 billion yen respectively.

user, you don't seriously believe that the quality of the character of the creator has any bearing on the quality of the creation, do you?

Attached: %22musubi3%22.png (1200x676, 1007K)

Only contrarians won't agree with the fact that Kimi no Na wa is the best anime of all time.

We don't tend to think of him this way in the west but Shinkai is an industry outsider without the same sort of backing committees as most directors. It's just that his solo project Hoshi no Koe made so much more money for the indie animation publisher Comix Wave that they were able to afford an actual studio for the first time and offered to let him do whatever he wants with it in the hopes that he would continue to sell well (which he did).

He's basically an indie dweeb that went big?

Yeah

My respect for him just went up. That's pretty damn cool.

iirc Shinkai himself directed the VAs closely, even made his own self-dub so the VAs knew what he want
He did it in one of the interview with the atashi/watashi/boku part, and it was spot on

doesnt Garden of Words have a relatively happy ending? They even get to be together in the novel

I have read too much gender bender, this movie is fucking generic

Can we just skip the weeb names and call it "your name" please

that blows my mind
just goes to show how artistic ability outweighs money

That's not FLCL.

Attached: FLCL.jpg (1600x1000, 227K)

it's honestly amazing for it's budget

*cough*hollywood*cough*

A boy falls in love with a girl. Unable to confess, he is gifted by a deus ex machina with the girl's phone number.

That man lies as naturally as he walks

yes

True.

Best anime movie for normalfags, I absolutely agree.

I've had two people tell me this before - both of whom had girlfriends, pointing to a serious lack of self-awareness.

All (4) of my anime watching friends said Koe no Katachi was better and that your name was bad. I did a rewatch when I flew to Japan and a few Japanese girls sitting near me were watching with me. I guess Americans just have shit taste

That's true. If you go to Japan and tell anyone that shit is better than Kimi no Na wa, you're more than certainly getting laughed at. Amer*cans are delusional.

No, The Sky Crawlers is.
