If I had a nitpick about the series, I don't think I can call it a criticism, it's that I wish we had gotten to spend more time with the three older sisters.The party balance was the right choice but those three had such fun interactions and scenes that it's a shame we only got a little of them across all the episodes.

But it's a great story overall and I enjoyed the show a lot. Such a unique and weird world system and mechanics. It's something you don't come across often. Very innovative.

I somehow believe Tatsuki doesn't believed himself and rushed some things trying to resolve everything in one season. Maybe this is why it feels rushed on some parts. Maybe in S2 we will get some answers.

This was a strange show at first and I didn't immediately grab my attention, but I'm glad I stuck with it to the end.

It was obvious this episode was pushing the Yaoyorozu's resources to the limit. They'll need to hire more animators as they continue to make full length shows. But this also means Tatsuki having to give up some control.

Yeah, as much as I liked the episode there were a number of technical faults. They aren't great at fast/action animation but it seemed even worse and the sound has a bunch of problems (seemed off sync at times but not others, lots of things made no sound when they should have like midori's husk falling over).
I can totally buy into their 3D art style, but there's still room for improvement within it.

Pretty much. The base premise is that after an apocalypse a scientist splits his soul into nine pieces, puts them into dolls, and those dolls are being hunted down by a mechanical monster that has already killed a bunch of them. It also started as a one-off short that got made into a movie with an expanded scope beyond its initial premise.

Wakaba is an alien. His job is making 3D printed copies of buildings and stuff from Earth, to preserve a copy of the planet's cultural assets. The islands are all inside a spaceship above earth.

Wakaba mentions it a little, the alien race thing he's part of wanted to create a replica display of Earth and humanity's ruins as a cultural work, possibly to remember them by, hence the 3d printed look to the kemurikusa insides of the land. Throughout this, Riri's DNA or body was accidentally recovered and she got revived. Whether she's a clone or just revived I'm not sure of though.
Wakaba's ship was originally above the Earth hiding somewhere, though because the red tree it probably started to fail and crashed into the mountains or got buried over time, explaining the earthquakes early on.

Besides the QUALITY, or the lack of it? I'm not sure how to call it, I have the feeling that they ran out of time to have the episode ready and just achieved what they could with the time they had left, besides that I think everything was perfect, I would have preferred if they addressed more things like how the sisters came back or something more about Rina and Ritsu, but I think is still perfect as it is and hopefully they "finish" the episode in the BDs. I would really love to see a S2 or at least an OVA of just all of them having fun and exploring the world outside this "SHIP", that somehow people outside must have seen, if there's any left, S2 PLEASE.

The way I understood it was that Riri was a human that was revived from the dead using some kemurikusa magic (possible Midori). This is alluded to in ep11 when Wakaba notes that using Kemurikusa on people can have strange effects "one case where brain's information was replicated."

She only becomes (part?)-kemurikusa when she splits.

As for Wakaba, I'm pretty sure that the original Wakaba who piloted the ship was some sort of alien, not kemurikusa being. But after he planted midori in himself, the wakaba that we see in ep1 is a Kemurikusa clone of the original Wakaba. Midori's fruit, if you will.

My theory is that is way long into the future and humanity is still alive but only a fraction of what used to be, all the civilization now are nothing but ruins the humans alive might explore or not on their daily lives and wonder what they are, maybe Riri parents were one of these humans that out of curiosity decided to explore these ruins and started recovering technology from these places but at some point something went wrong and BOOM. At some point Wakaba came to earth with his ship to make a "3D Printed Earth" using their technology, the Kemurikusa, and for reason I don't finish to understand he made contact with Riri and her parents and after the accident he decided to bring Riri back to life, out of curiosity so it seems, then it happened what we know that happened and the whole project just stopped with the Red Kemurikusa, at the end other thing we don't know if that this ship had already landed on the earth as we can see in the image i'm quoting or if at some point after Riri and Wakaba were gone the ship just fell into the earth because what we can see in this image is that they are very much sunk into the ground. If you want another theory, you can assume that the earth was abandoned by most people houndreds of years ago (thus the city ruins), and Wakaba is an alien for the sole reason of being born on a different planet but at the same time with human ancestry and anatomical composition.

The fact that captain Wakaba explicitly mentions "people" as well as the fact that Riri explicitly stated she wanted to become kemurikusa implies that Riri and Captain Wakaba are actual humans, not kemurikusa beings.

That being said, one thing that puzzles me is that if new Wakaba (the one that is midori's fruit) is indeed made of Kemurikusa himself (something that most people seem to agree upon) how come we never see his core leaf? I’ll be honest, I found his curiosity and innocence to be very cute so I liked him in the beginning and ended up liking him even more at the end.
