I might sound selfish, but why is everyone getting hyped up for this show being on Netflix in a few months? Where was all this hype 10+ years ago when people didn’t know that much about it, and only a few that did, did not brag about it?
I’m not saying that this show isn’t allowed to have new fans, but it feels rather strange that people are now suddenly falling in love with this show when they only knew about it because of the memes. It just doesn’t feel genuine to me.

Overall, I have no issue with Eva being on Netflix. I re-watched the anime and re-read the manga adaptation (as well as the specials) that even with all the hype and conversation surrounding it, I’m not sure how adding new fans would be such a big deal to people who like to dictate why more people are all of a sudden liking it.

Gundam has a pretty sizeable fanbase even in the west, it is an institution in Japan and probably has even more market power than Eva does. But the thing is all those elements didnt just end with those shows, Tomino's work defined how the genre would develop in the 80s and onwards, those elements have been part of the genre since then. You can't really care about "the deconstruction of mecha" by Eva if you don't even know what mecha was like before Eva, and people who spread that meme clearly had an idea about what they thought mecha shows must all be like without having sufficient first hand experience of the genre. Anno never thought of his show that way because he is one of the biggest mecha fans ever and was mostly just trying to make homage to the stuff he loved and express his depression at the same time.

10 plus years ago, the anime was still talked about as the game changer for keeping anime studios alive. plus, the Internet was still new and more anime forums were being created. it wasn’t until Yea Forums brought it back to life with the updated meme material.

that was obviously a bait post. The idea that the pilots are "retarded all the time" is so ignorant of at least half the series. I will give 2 examples but there are many more of them being not "retarded".
1. The fight where Asuka and Shinji must sync there actions in order to succesfully defeat the angel.
2. The fight with the Angel from space. All Eva's perform there roles nearly flawlessly and win the battles with minimal collateral damage.
To be fair, Evangelion's are shitty as mechas go: pilots need to synchronize with them to get them moving, pilots feel the pain Evas feel, they can go berserk etc.
You expect these kids to carry out flawless military operations? You don't expect there to be a snag here and there when fighting alien entities whose powers differ from one to another? You expect these kids to act all nice and not at all insurbodinate? What, are you stupid?

Good. Geass's protag is all too smart and perfect and unrealistic. Lots of dummies hate on Eva's cast for having, *gasp*, problems, which is exactly why I like those characters.

Piloting is a way for her to lap up recognition, attention and praise from others to make up for her mommy issues.
I think her reason to live is hoping someone, anyone would love/care for her. She needs someone who wouldn’t easily give up on her, to which she uses her wall to test other boys/men. The immature boys would brush her off a la “She’s just a bitch!” (which also reminds me of people who didn't get Asuka). I think that Asuka, given how she already had trust issues (remember, her parental figures she trusted ignored her or just straight up didn’t give a damn about her), distrusted Kaji when she got under his care. Kaji was probably the only guy who believed in her at that point (similair how Shinji reacted to Kaworu) so she latched on what little affection she got from him only to be rejected by him later on.
It's actually interesting that we get to see attention seeking person as an insecure wreck. Asuka doesn't have superiority complex, she has inferiority complex. People with superiority complex don't tell people how superior they are because they think that's a given, it's insecure people who do that.
