Yep. Toriko's author got arrested for paying an underaged prostitute for sex and Jump paid his fine since he's best friends with Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece.
It was while he was writing another series for Jump before Toriko was conceived so it flew under the radar. Around the time Shueisha was shilling the fuck out of Toriko though, all the allegations came to light and negatively impacted Toriko's chances of popularity.

This also seems like one of those things (if true) that must be specific to the West because his previous series was explicitly cancelled and he was banned from Jump for years because of the incident. Toriko was his triumphant return and it simply failed to live up to the massive push they gave it. The Black Clover of its time.
