It seems like she was tested when she was rescued, thus why she was being transferred to Genjuro's squad before Fine kidnapped her again. Fine probably assumed she had strong compatibility based on her heritage and pulled strings as Ryoko to get her tested.

All Chris fans hope that wasn't the case, but unless the writers say it didn't happen, the implication is going to stick.

The implication existed because it was the most reasonable explanation of the facts that we were presented in the show, per Occam's Razor. With AXZ, that's just not the case any more. While it fits what we saw in the first season slightly better than the alternative of "she was just mistreated and has a potty mouth under stress" - a bit of an "I wish it didn't happen so I'll just ignore any suggestions that it did" reach, but hardly impossible or unbelieveable - it makes complete nonsense of her reactions in AXZ.

Spending childhood years as a slave and never getting to eat a table will do that.

The way I see it, Chris was clearly distressed about her time as a "slave" in south america. The whole Sonia and Stephan business was just a convenient excuse and distraction to have her grow in a positive way. At least it's easier than having to tackle the unholy subject of child rape.

Yeah, she just shows zero signs of it affecting her at all, after it was a plot point of how obviously it was affecting her beforehand. She just made up with an old friend and then bam, being "strong mentally" suddenly totally masks all signs she was previously blatantly exhibiting. She's Schroedinger's rape victim, simultaneously so massively affected that her getting everyone worried about how she feels returning that it's a plot point, but also so "mentally tough" that all she needs is the short-term distraction of fixing a minor relationship from her past to be completely fine with zero suggestion from the narrative that there's any further unease under the surface.

You can pretend to be being the wise elightened one "just saying what's logical" all you like, but you're twisting an interpretation to fit a theory that you are fond of but just doesn't fit with the new facts. The same reaching "but what if there's this other explanation that wasn't actually suggested by anything shown in the narrative but could technically have happened" that was once used by people trying to ignore the backstory in the face of the evidence is now being used by those who still want to believe in it in the face of the evidence.

The chart is wrong because the first episode was great. I was genuinely shocked when people started getting dusted at the concert, Kanade's death was impactful as well, and Hibiki's first transformation was fucking sick. Things go straight up from there and the spat between Miku and Hibiki is the exact sort of thing that made S1 far more meaningful than everything that has come since.

S2 basically just flat lines except for a few spikes when Hibiki acts like a badass or they dump a truckload of budget on fights between gear users.
