So the big problem with cast-off figures is paint transfer- I've had it happen to me firsthand and I know it's a common concern. Would it be prudent to keep a napkin or something in-between the figure and the "clothes," or is there a better option?

There is no difference. Pigtails is the western term. "Tsuinteru" is the Japanese term. Despite being a loan word, you will only hear weebs use that term instead of pigtail. It is admittedly less dumb sounding.

Tough luck, it happens. I bought Saber Vortigern for $230 and then a rerelease got announced a month later at half price. I also enjoy when my figures go up in price after release. I've though about implementing a policy that if a figure doubles in price I'll just sell it because it might get a re-release, but then I screw myself if that doesn't happen. For example the Fate Racing figures and Alter Kotori Minami. Your only option would be to either suck it up or try to sell and recoup some of the cost before you order again. Bear in mind that if you pre-order these new ones you won't have them for like a year so you are able to enjoy the figures now if you don't sell them.

I don't know who said that but that is 100% false. The truth is polyester has the least bit of fading and shrinking. I collect and use lots of shirts, blankets, towels, dakimakuras, and some parkas(hoodies). I actually see plenty of misinformation in these threads and I'm usually too lazy to tell people off and correct them. I usually just leave them to learn the hard way but doing it on a whim this time. Cotton will shrink a lot more, become fuzzy, sometimes even clump up, and will fade in color. If anything, polyester will only fade a hardly noticeable amount. What I mean by that is, I have merch where I bought 1 to collect and 1 to use and I since I use them, I have to wash them. Cotton side by side new/used will show an annoying difference while I put polyester merch side by side and I actually have a hard time telling which is the new and used. The problem with polyester is they are made differently and sometimes they are really cold to the touch. So if you live in a cold area, something like a shirt which isn't thick and has holes in them to breathe will actually feel ridiculously cold in the wind but a thicker parka may not. Polyester usually don't retain heat as much but you still sweat in them a little bit more because cotton usually absorbs the sweat better. But depending on how they manufacture the polyester it could actually be used as a warm blanket vs a cold bed sheet.

I can post a picture(s) "possibly if I feel like" going through the trouble. I usually don't even have the energy to post pics and I've been thinking of a name for years to watermark on my images because people steal them.
