en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toren_Smith
>Smith was introduced to Japanese anime and manga by James Hudnall in 1982, and in 1986 he sold his possessions and moved to Japan in order to found Studio Proteus, a company that was for more than two decades one of the top two producers of translated manga for the English-speaking world.
I guess he was translating Urusei Yatsura before he went to Japan
In case you guys didn't know the guy in Gunbuster was name after him, and he even did background voices on gunbuster too

As for everyone else, you can honestly look most of these people up online, they all use their real names and stuff

Yeah.

what happened?

The eternal argument

Now the really scary thing here is that this is a nostalgiafag posting in the mid-90s talking about how terrible anime is.

So that means in like two decades some people are going to think how awesome and mature the 2010s were

Do you think someone will dig up a thread like this in 40 years and talk about how I'm talking about that they're going to talk about this post?

Boyo, we already have people who reminisce about YouTube Poop and 2011 Yea Forums. It's coming a lot sooner than you think.

maybe anime was always shit and always will be shit

It's been around 23years and nothing has chnaged.

And they'll be remembering the handful of good shows that came out and comparing them against the sea of mediocrity of the 2030s.

Doubtful.
I tried looking up LoGH stuff and found a couple of dozen posts at best.
You look up LoGH on Yea Forums, youd find several hundred threads.

>addicted to cute anime
>Not a fan of CCS
Shit taste and faggotry is eternal.

There's tons of posts from the mid-90s complaining about how bad the 90s are that usually fall under
>there's too many anime about cute girls!
>there's too many anime about dense boys being lusted over by a group of cute girls!
>there's too many mecha for children!
>anime is becoming too sexualized!
>there's too many power fantasies
And my favourite
>why does all fantasy anime take place in japanese RPGs?

Nothing's changed

Oh no.

Kinda why I'm more interested in the posts from the 80s though there isn't as much. Everything from the 90's on is generally all the same bitching

Why are you surprised?

Our insults are different. You fucking lamer.

You don't see posts like those nowadays, smarthphomes were a mistake.

It's like I'm in a time capsule of that UWU copypasta.

More like character limits were a mistake.
I made a long post a couple weeks ago and because of the character limit I had to copy and paste it and stuff into 3 posts, in the end between all the copy pasting I lost the second section of it
why the fuck do we have character limits on here in 2018 when they could type as much as they wanted in 1982

Best thread on Yea Forums for god knows how long

>Google has an archive of usenet posts going back to 1981, there's a lot of history here

Yeah, I think it used to be the old Dejanews archive. Google bought it and kept it alive, maybe for sentimental reasons?

Great thread

more like information control and suppression reasons

Smartphones inhibit ones ability to type fast and type a lot.
I don't think any phoneposter has ever hit the character limit in the first place

It to feed it all into some massive algorithm.

These posts are older than me.

>the term furry existed as far back as 1996
Haha what the fuck

It's nice to know people were dumb pervs back then too

It's much older than that.

why do you think anime was practically built on that stuff in the first place?

Guy's hot take on EVA.

Nice to see that back then people were also being told to watch more anime if they happen to think the contemporary era is the best.

Yeah, him, Adam Warren and Frederik Schodt are the most ancient of ancientfags. Toren bitched about scanlations though.

With all the doom posting about how the internet is dead and not the same, this gives me hope that in 20 years it's going to be the exact same. Just like those Pompeii or where ever graphiti where people called each other gay and told each other to kill themselves 2000 years ago.

Remember kids the next time you shitpost people might be laughing at you being wrong over 20 years later

*holds up spork*

I like how he mentions Macross getting an English adaptation in '85, noting it adds a "horrid theme song". As if that's the only difference between Macross and Robotech, lol.

I wonder how they feel now in 2019 considering nobody even knows that Iczer existed anymore

Not gonna lie the Lacey bit got to me.
I hope that dog live a long great life.

Wow, really jogs the old nog.

This thread makes me feel better about all the normalfags and beaners infesting this board.

>tfw reading my old posts in that 2015 thread about being embarrassed by your old forum posts
feels strange
hello to myself in the 2023 usenet thread

It’s all so tiresome

It always happens. You can't stop people from communicating and can't create a curated community without measures like invites or paywalls. Even there, the hardcores always get pushed to the margins as new blood shows up.

You're accepted now, but you were as much an annoying newfag to your seniors, as they were to their seniors. In five-ten years, the newfags who came in off Gamergate/Trump will be the old guard and some new fresh hell will replace them.

It is inevitable.

This is the end-point of all weebs and sexpats.

Everyone was new once, but you should still fuck off with that piece of relativism. Everything on the internet is objectively worse now since most meaningful barriers of entry have been completely removed. That's what happened on usenet, that's what happened on online forums, and even right now, the final great barrier of entry is being actively dismantled by people who should know better.
>What is happening?
All the poor, uneducated and otherwise uncultured people of the third world are gradually coming online in greater numbers because of rapidly improving socioeconomic conditions. They don't care where these platforms come from. They certainly don't care about lurking more to increase their power level. They will not even remotely care about any of the technological underpinnings or evolved social norms of the internet. Because with the barriers of entry gone, they don't have anything in the way of motivation to do so.

In any case, I sure as hell don't plan to stick around for when the locust swarm invades in force.

Actually, according to this snippet of his blog that's gone, he says he has two failed marriages
so maybe he actually did find love in Japan after all, but it failed...

Attached: zephyr.png (469x264, 20K)

Speaking of which, I saw some Japanese fansites of the late 90s - early 2000s which used the term 'yaoi' too. I wonder when the shift to 'BL' happened.

What's hilarious is that Shirow became a fanservice hack and no one takes him seriously anymore.

You should have seen Yea Forums 10-12 years ago. All the ironic shitposting of the present but unironic. Oh those innocent days

Not me. ESL subhumans are ruining the internet.

Not him, but thanks for making me aware of the pun.
Never even noticed that. To my excuse: Haven't watched it.

>All the poor, uneducated and otherwise uncultured people of the third world are gradually coming online

Poor third worlders were here since the start and the fact that we learnt a new language to come here shows that we are not retarded. You need to blame your first world niggers too.

These need to be more common on Yea Forums, I vote for it to be so.

Are you Indian? Are you Pakistani? Are you Chinese? Are you Filipino? Are you Brazilian? (etc.) Did you have access to the internet 15 years ago? Even if you are and you did, I can still guarantee you that 90% of your compatriots did not. They do now, however, and they are dumb as shit and are going to ruin everything.

>You need to blame your first world niggers too.
But I already do, Mr. Language learner. Maybe you should try some intermediate English for your next cram session so that you can better analyze what people are discussing.

Anyway, I don't even know why I'm responding to you. You are exactly the same as every other petulant (ESL) newfag that's crawled in since 2008.

I can shitpost in 3 languages too, by the way, but that's just because I know how to lurk moar.

Attached: 1553529392909.png (267x300, 84K)

Sorry but you're biased and can't see how bad it is. ESL spics treat this board as their shounen toilet and actively try to ruin it for others at the same time. I can't tell you how many times some dumb wetback begs me for the source in broken English when I post a manga page.

Only phrases I know in a another language
>Where is the toilet
>You are the toilet

Chinese here, internet became widespread on stupidly slow dialup in 1995 in urban centers. That's like always 25 years ago.

Not him but I got my 1st computer in 1997 and back then, 13% of Brazilian population had access to the internet. Still, we have been some of the worst shitpoters of all time.

I really like looking for stuff on the internet. If there was one job that I would actually enjoy doing, it's some kind of information seeking. My friend that dropped out of college and went to the military said he did stuff like that.
One day I hope to have access to as much resources as i need to to find anything i want, rather than just normal search engines.

Is that the tiawanese massacre?

Funny thing is, there really was a lot of anime with cuteness back then, they aren't wrong. It's just that our idea of moe is tonally different

I always forget all those Super Robot revival shows were in the same year as Gurren Lagann and StrikerS.

End of Eva was literally their version of Madoka Rebellion. I can just imagine how pissed off and confused they probably were after seeing that.

>Eva won't become a classic. Bubblegum Crisis though, that's the real shit

My sides

>Literally the NEXT fucking year was not even remotely as good

The anime market bubble was in the process of popping.

Kinda see his point

Attached: 1995.jpg (1075x2250, 818K)

>It's just that our idea of moe is tonally different
I don't think it is that different. The underlying principle has always existed, it just was not as refined. e.g. otaku have always been watching magical girl shows for the cute girls - even if the shows themselves were directed at an audience of kids. Nowadays the elements from these early cute-girl shows have been extracted and condensed into their own form that is aimed at otaku directly.

Based

Everything is objectively worse because you're older and more bitter that the Internet is no longer a special, exclusionary thing. For fuck's sake, this whole thread is putting the lie to your entire argument.

Shitposters will always exist. N00bs will always exist. Assholes like you will always exist. The old will be replaced with the new, become the old, and bitch about the new shit that replaces them.

You are not special or unique. The same kind of people have said the same things, just replace your /pol/ bullshit with normalfags, schoolkids, college students, or aliens. The Internet keeps on chugging, keeps on shifting and making crazy shit. Tides go in, tides go out.

In twenty years, someone will be reading us and thinking how quaint we were in their VR loli fuckpiles.

I didn't recognize him. He looked young

The 90s really were the peak years of Anime.

Attached: 1515477830219.jpg (1280x943, 415K)

>VR loli fuckpiles
Any person with one of those can say whatever the hell they want about me; they have the right to.

I always get the feeling that late 90's / really early 00's anime was developing towards some kind of artistic peak, but that somehow got derailed by the shift to digital.

I would say that was the artistic peak. There's still plenty of good anime now, but there's some spark that is gone that used to be there.

I agree that it was the peak (for TV anime, mind you; OVAs and movies were already highly developed by the 80's), I just mean that it seemed to continue to improve until all of a sudden it shifted. If I had to guess the reason, it'd be the difference between physical materials and digital ones.

Wasn't there a character in Gunbuster with that name?

Visual novels my friend. The rise of visual novels and eroge along with the cultural impact of Eva to otakudom lead into the 2000s.

Interesting thing is now if you ask someone what they think of the early-mid 2000s, they'd call it the "experimental era" of anime

>VR loli fuckpiles

Attached: 1531565736852.jpg (238x211, 8K)

You're probably on to something there. And then after VNs / eroge came the rise of light novels.

>the "experimental era" of anime
Perhaps it's because the bubble caused companies to scramble for content to adapt, which led to them adopting habits that continued for the next decade. It's quite telling that the new spring 2019 season, which has the smallest lineup in years (only 30 new full-length shows), mainly consists of sequels and adaptations of popular manga. The industry seems to be retreating slightly, but I hope it doesn't slip into a dark age.

Wonder if he lived to see anime being saved by Trigger

Goddammit. if there's one thing about this shithole I love its the fact that they know their history when it comes to shitposting and the plain, bleak but also comforting reality of the human condition.

I'm suddenly reminded of the To Heart anime (the first season). The 20th anniversary of its first episode is in 5 days. It's a standard VN but was one of the first to ever be adapted. The plot is absolutely nothing to write home about, but the visuals were excellent and the overall art and sound design was nothing short of brilliant in my view. Ten years after that we ended up with some VN adaptations with neither plot nor visuals worth mentioning.

>the newfags who came in off Gamergate/Trump will be the old guard and some new fresh hell will replace them.
Jesus Christ, I can't even imagine a group of people worse than the 2016 onwards newfags.

Based on economic numbers, I don't think a dark age is likely. I think the general trend right now is one of consolidation. Publishers have enough cash flow that they don't need to spam one-cours LN adverts, but the lean times were recent enough that they aren't quite comfortable putting good money behind new things.

>this was considered good art back then

This is actually a very well done explanation. Kudos tot his guy.

It's palpable and very sad. Lack of computer literacy is what caused this problem, and now it's probably too late to go back.
The internet is dead. Can't you tell? Netscape isn't a technical marvel by today's standards, but browsing on netscape was an explorative and fun experience. Now how do we browse? Scroll through twitter to see mindless self-promotion. Go to youtube and enter the funnel directing you to content so you don't need to think, only consume. Endless refreshing on Yea Forums, because every other site sucks ass... Very few places on the internet are worth visiting anymore.

What the hell is he even talking about? Yaoi is popular with gays because fags gonna fag. Yaoi is popular with women for the same reason red-blooded Americans love watching a garden full of nymphs having a Dionysian orgy.
This whole standard of beauty and investigation of masculinity thing are so far outside of people's minds that I can only assume this fossilized faggot was desperately searching for a way to dress up his homosexuality in pseudo-intellectual (and likely sheer of fabric and rainbow colored) garb.

Is 30 episodes in a weekend too much? Do I have a problem?

It's up to the old guard to guide and educate though. Culture invariably changes, and exponentially faster over the past century, but surely there's a way to stop nu-nu-Yea Forums from becoming nu-nu-nu-Yea Forums.

>Endless refreshing on Yea Forums

>they speak english

Hello random stranger from 2029
things never change do they

we're desperate for outlets to say whatever we want in seriousness and in recreation. the sjw thought police prevent us from doing it normally. we're floating in an ocean of stagnant thought, entertaining ourselves with yet more stagnant thought, and clutching at passing flotsam to give ourselves some respite.

This is proto Yea Forums holy shit.

early internet is just proto Yea Forums

Since people from 2109 will look these conversation we have. I'll just it now. EOPs are scum. Neon Genesis Evangelion is okay. Hayao Miyazaki is still probably working in year 2109. We have so much TV series to watch thanks to pirates who share their tv rips. This is the best decade to enjoy life, before we all die due to immigration of useless people.

Insufferable faggots were always around, they eventually "grow up" and go back to watching sportsball and indulging in recreational substance abuse, but they'll bitch about anime for years. Anime is like a girlfriend they couldn't get over, they're bitter for years on end that they didn't get the industry sanitized into edgy gorefests and pretentious bullshit.
Those people got replaced by toonamitards, toonamitards have been replaced by ANNfags. Japan continues to ignore them decades later.

what are the chances English is still a thing in 2109

>Summer
>2 shows
Although the vast majority of airing anime is total garbage, this makes me appreciate that there is at least a selection.

Everyone will speak like the ESLs of today.

It's kind of funny because to weebs most of that just seems like common knowledge but I'd imagine weebs 30 years ago didn't have the luxury. Given the time I guess that would've been around when the classic uniforms were on the way out in favor of the more western blazers and slacks/pleated skirts.

It wasn't, people just enjoyed the story.

Found a copy of the old Evangelion FAQ.

>filipina
he wasnt lying about age not mattering, huh

wow they had discord trannies back in 91

Remember back then it was common for most shows to be over 26 episodes so 2 Summer shows probably meant like half the previous 2 seasons were also airing

The industry has issues but honestly the one thing I like about anime is despite shifting trends it's mostly the same. Anime was always this unapologetically strange and perverse medium made for its fans, and even though the things those fans want changes over time the core values seem to be static. I can appreciate that because every other entertainment medium is obsessed with the opposite, they tell you what you should like and say you're horrible if you don't like it.
Meanwhile anime is still cute girls in skimpy outfits doing cute and sometimes badass things. I feel anime is the only thing left that just wants me to have fun without having to digest some bullshit message tied to faggy western politics.

Reminder that the people lamenting Moe taking over were not wrong and by 2000 they were vindicated.

Doesn't cover the plagues of the deres, shonen, and finally isekai. Seems like every 2 anime seasons there's another reason anime is dead.

>The "beautiful Japanese wife" mentioned by Takeda was Tomoko Saitou (AKA Tomoyuki Saitou, Asuka Rei, and later, Tomoko Saitou Smith)
>Asuka Rei
Wait what

No one cared about what they had to say for almost 40 years and they're still mad.
Good.

Reminder that moe was literally always there, that's the point of this thread, and people bitching isn't going to change that

'Moe' is not what people complain about. It's the extreme prevelance of CGDCT Iyashikei and braindead Harem fanservice shows. Cute girls have been a thing since forever but they were generally not the focus except for the extreme outliers like Machiko. The 'Sailor Moon Generation' was a very real thing replacing the mecha/manly stuff in promenance and by 2000-2003 it happened.

The great thing about anime and manga is that they didn't become a genre like comic books for example where 95% is the same thing.
So even though you do have girls in skimpy outfits you also have pretty much everything else.
Saying anime has or hasn't changed doesn't make sense to me since anime never was one single thing.

Yeah I have no clue what the fuck that is all about. I even looked it up to make sure she didn't voice Asuka at any point.
So maybe it was actually a nickname she had at some point or something? Or maybe someone on wikipedia made a mistake?

>d*g

Most of Yea Forums wasn't born yet but the they would be fated to have this exact argument thinking they were original.

90s bodies looked so hot, I love 90s style hentai too, but unfortunately 90s dojins were complete shitthe stories, page layout, line quality has improved, but the overall style of anime went to shit.

Wtf, I watched and liked to many of these (after 2007), I never realised these were all from the same year. Where can I dl old anime like this?

I guess some stuff never changes

All I can get from this is that, somehow, anime has been under the threat of being taken over but it never actually happened because we still see faggots like this complain about it like it's the newest thing. What a fucking weird feeling. All I can think of it in my own reality and experience is how I loved the Thundercats, the Silverhawks and the 90's X-men and dread every time I happen to glance at what cartoons like like today with Rick and Morty, Ren and Stimpy and all those weird looking new cartoons pooping out when switching channels.

Has anyone looked for One Piece or HxH I want to hear what the spergs reading it thought

We literally have a big crisis of children looking for drugs in the streets of my town. This is a relic of the past... truly a less degenerate time.
Children aren't that protected from the world anymore.

Fuck off, spics have terrible taste worse than Japan.

THE ETERNAL ARGUMENT

>they are dumb as shit
But they are learning quickly.. I think they understand that there is some issues in their communities.
You didn't have that much 10-20 years ago.

Seems people are more aware of this shit on this forum than they used to be though. People seemed to forget about this after the 90's and went into a lulled innocent period where they actually trusted people more. Nowadays, you'll be lucky to find anyone that can trust you. That seems to have been the case in the 90's too.

00's were a weird time. Almost a dream.

I totally agree that there was a change in anime in the 80's where moe/fanservice became far more prominent. Then it became borderline outrageous in the 90s and again later in the late 00's early 10s (before the legislation passed to limit what you could show on TV).
It seems lately the anime has been less service focused 2bh. Not sure if a good or bad thing.
I mean those shows still exist, but I swear when I came to Yea Forums in the late 00's it was nothing but fanservice.

90's seemed to really turn up the service a notch.
The 80's was the biggest period of transition in anime from a focus on animation for children to a focus on animation for otaku.

Imagine someone reading this thread and current Yea Forums in 2060.

People liking Chibi-Usa is a very recent thing. Like 2012 or so recent

This thread is really nice but also makes me want to kill myself

Anime seems to have changed drastically after the internet caught on in that pic.
That totally makes sense, as you could now discuss potential ideas online before pitching them with the studio and making the show. Internet changed things so quickly in our world.

But world will end in 2020

That's just Australian retardation. We've always had a dysfunctional education system.

Given the state of the world, I doubt anyone will be left in 2060, and if they are, they'll be too busy with the heatwaves, polluted air, lack of food and fuel and more to watch anime. And most of Japan will be underwater by then anyways.

>your head is meatballs
kek

Attached: meatballs.png (969x808, 207K)

Nope. It's still the same bullshit in the end. CGI anime ruined anime forever tho

I hope people in 2040 kill themselves, they are the cancer killing humanity over space/time

More like singularity will happen and you will read this thread with your robocatgirl.

Censorship in America was absolutely horrendous between 1985 to the 90's. That's part of the reason why bands and MTV tried to take the absolute piss out of it - frustration with censorship.
Unfortunately, it had the consequence of enforcing poe's law to a degree and so dumb kids copied the outrageous shit that these artists pushed.
You'll see that again as censorship seems to be becoming a problem again.

By 2040 we'll live in space and have Sharon Apple.

So is anime really more childish/lewd/commercial/shitty with every iteration? Or is it just an equivalent of Shepard's tone?

t. drooling retard

Difference is, there is definitely a worsened pedo problem in reality today, with people now reconsidering the whole "satanic panic" when out politicians are now going to jail for the things suggested back then.
People just assume that 2D equals 3D because they're stupid. It's the unfortunate consequence of the hysteria over real problems.

People on Yea Forums still consider Franxx a failure so he's a bit like them.

Going though this stuff really kinda normalizes it. 90's doesn't seem so far off, it's very close to what things are like now. Well I have very vague memories of using the internet a bit in like 99' anyway.

80's however, I still can't begin to fathom. What did Usenet even look like on whatever they used back then? Just like a command line screen or something? Anime wasn't even really a thing until '85, and then it still was barely known until the 90's. Feels like a world that's impossible to imagine.

It's actually the opposite, anime is good and has always been pretty good
You've just forgotten about or never been exposed to most of the worst things from 20/30 years ago because they were trash
People (generally) don't like to talk at length about garbage and sing its praises, so people in the next wave of the scene don't ever watch it (except for the curious ones that watch absolutely anything they can) and on and on
Trust me, I've watched hundreds of OVAs from the 80s and 90s, most of which the average anime fan has never heard of. Do you know why they've never heard of them? It's not because they're hidden gems, it's because they're fucking trash.
To further emphasize my point, let me put it to you like this. There were maybe tens of thousands of movies made in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. But how many of those movies are talked about today? Hundreds, certainly, but only a small fraction of all the movies produced in that period. The vast, VAST majority of those that aren't talked about are utterly horrible, so they sank into obscurity, or cult fandom. Anime is pretty much the same way.
TL;DR Wait 20 years for nostalgia about anime produced right here and now, after everything becomes CGI shit that everyone complains about.

Fuck you all, post 2010's normalfags are what ruined the internet regardless of race, while 2005-2010 was a somewhat transition period. Anyone who had been exposed to internet pre 2005 up to 2008 has wildly different attitude with internet compared to post 2010's users and this coming from a fucking Indonesian ffs. Low entry barrier and shitty normaldudebros attitude are problems in internet and real weeb communities too

How many of these people are still alive?

statistically almost all of them

I'd say hi to the people of 2060 reading this but I realize that doing that earnestly would be too fucking cringy. Plus, there's no way anyone will give a fuck given that the only reason we pay attention to the usenet shit is because the internet was young then, there will be too much inane shit in 2060 to care.

It's all the same shit anyway, look at the grafitti from the walls of Roman buildings and tell me that isn't exactly like Yea Forums nowadays. Some dude's message where he boasts about banging a prostitute survived and was read by us nearly 2000 years later, it's frankly astonishing.

Isekai's been a genre since the early 80s, and there's at least 5 (I can think of at the top of my head) isekai in the late 80s and early 90s that was "kid/teenager gets transported to fantasy world with intentional JRPG elements"

But regardless, even most regular non-isekai fantasy anime of the period that didn't literally take place in a JRPG was still packed to the brim with JRPG references and nods.

Well, they do both have breathable liquid in their cockpits and connect directly to the body so that the pilot feels pain. Iczer Robo is bioorganic. But Iczer feels more like a Go Nagai manga with an updated aesthetic, it’s pretty much tentacle monster yuri Mazinger Z. Eva does have that Nagai influence, but it also has the Tomino influence so it is quite different.

>barneyfag is real

What I'm gathering from this thread is that people in the 90s looked at Sailor Moon like how modern shonenfags look at K-ON!
Except instead of moe, the buzzword was kawaii.

>..[shudder].. >_

The better question is where are they now?

>moe
I tried looking the word up and can't find any actual use of it pre-2000s, where did it even come from?

Yeah, it was the boy they introduced in episode 3 who Noriko instantly fell in love with, then died in the same episode.

>>why does all fantasy anime take place in japanese RPGs?
BECAUSE IT'S ANIME. Holy fucking shit.

>ASCII emojis

Remember when we called these "emoticons"?

>The term's origin and etymology are unknown. Anime columnist John Oppliger has outlined several popular theories describing how the term would have stemmed from the name of anime heroines, such as Hotaru Tomoe from Sailor Moon (Tomoe is written as 土萌, relevant kanji is the same) or Moe Sagisawa from the 1993 anime Kyōryū Wakusei.[6] Psychologist Tamaki Saitō identifies it as coming from the Japanese word for "budding", moeru (萌える).[7] Ken Kitabayashi of the Nomura Research Institute has defined moe as "being strongly attracted to one's ideals"[8] Kitabayashi has identified the word moe to be a pun with the Japanese godan (五段) verb for 'to sprout', moyasu (萌やす), and its homophone 'to burn', moyasu (燃やす).[8] Along the same line of thought, Kitabayashi has identified it to be a pun with the Japanese ichidan (一段) verb for 'to sprout' moeru (萌える) and its homophone 'to burn' moeru (燃える), which mean 'to burn' (in the sense of one's heart burning, or burning with passion).[8] Galbraith states that the term came from 2channel in the 1990s, discussing female characters who were "hybrids of the Lolicon (Lolita Complex) and bishoujo (beautiful girl) genres".

Some late 90s 2ch argument arguing over best 90s girl.
For whatever reason, most of the girls that Japs agreed were moe were literally named moe (Moe Sagisawa), or had moe in their name (Hotaru Tomoe), or sounded like moe (Momo).

I found this a few days ago.

Dear lord, they really liked that LoGH thing.

Hotaru's from Sailor Moon and
Moe's from Dinosaur Planet, which was popular in Japan but extremely obscure in the West.

It may have been a bad example, but fact still remains that the sheer volume of discussion drowns out any specific one.
It was actually why I looked up LoGH, to see if anyone had gotten their hands on it in early 1990's, but I could not understand if they managed to even get subs or you had to actually know Japanese to watch it.

They just want a label they can use to posture with. That's why they're so tribal, it's so they can hide themselves within large groups.

They don't bother or have the time to post in internet/forums anymore because of responsibilities. Same case for the ones who used to be active in real life communities, the only difference is they just post in their own established circle

Though most older weeb are still somewhat active everywhere at cons and the likes if you look around and chat with them when they do come or participate in cons. The best weeb cosplayer/artist/gamer/developer/musician are unironically the older ones, though most of older generations are pretty picky with cons because they know which ones are the good cons to attend or participate based from their experiences. If Comiket/Comitia/M3 Summit/Reitaisai type of cons (the type which don't sell artist alley type stuffs) are more popular in other countries I'm sure that the amount of over 30s weeb you'll found will be outrageous

We had internet in 2002. The only difference was it was a lot more expensive and it was slow. Don't kid yourself. Your idea of the 3rd world in the early 2000s was skewed. Why do you think MMOs like Ragnarok were all the rage back then in developing countries? Everybody was playing online games, in internet cafes.

I think it happened to discern between actual yaoi (in the sense of "characters actually kissing or even having sex) and that what Yea Forums usually calls fujobait or homolust series.
Speaking of which, I haven't seen the homolust term for years on here anymore.

That's already happened, Crunchyroll was started by people just like you and me and they funded shit like Shield Hero.

If I ever become rich, I'll make Tanigawa finish his mess.

Check the archives, it is still used. It's time threads also use it every now and then. You probably haven't been to a thread with heavy fujo/fudanshi traffic in a while.

2008 was waaay better

That's completely different though. The pedo problem today breaks down into two parts. The "low-level" pedos are increasing in number because of the breakdown of society along the lines of the behavioral sink model leading to psychologically damaged individuals whose trauma is simply existing in the broken social environment, as well as those who are victimized as children due to this breakdown and thus gaining pedophilia "the natural way." Then we have the elite who have been doing this shit for hundreds of years because one of the basic ways to quickly gain worldly power in any occult system is to rape, torture, and/or cannibalize innocents (at the cost of your soul, or vast karmic debt, or whatever negative consequence the occult system ascribes for evil acts). This was compounded by the development of blackmail creation systems which specifically force people to create compromising material such as tapes of themselves having sex with children in order to move up in the corrupt hierarchy as well as the studies undertaken by clandestine groups such as the CIA which revealed that the easiest way to brainwash someone is to abuse them as a child so that their psyche cracks into multiple personalities which can be programmed separately. That research and its implementation were even conducted according to ritualistic aesthetics specifically so that the satanic panic could be orchestrated in the media (which the CIA has controlled ever since Operation Mockingbird) and then dismissed, thus making the public less likely to pay attention to the claims of whistleblowers and victims. Of course, there were also people like Michael Aquino involved in the scene who were legitimate "Satanists" and drew on their occult beliefs in managing MKUltra programs.

The pedo problem hasn't gotten much worse since the 60s/70s, but the efforts of citizen journalists through the internet has made a problem that has been hundreds of years in the making more visible.

Strange way of summing it up when most yaoi back then and even now was made by straight women for other females, the homo otaku have their own more buff preferred art style made by men which looks very different from the BL sparkly bishonen women draw.

The internet before women was paradise.

I know a kid who grew up in Japan then went to school here. Seemingly as a total weeaboo back then, I would ask and let him tell stories about "life in Japan" and I listened intently. I showed him some of my chuuni ideas too.
Thinking about it now, that I was such an embarrassing weeaboo to him, I wonder what he thought about it. Well, it can't be helped

Now I really want to find some similar ancient shitposting like:

You ever go back on your comments in internet forums you made in the early 2000s and the 90s, Yea Forums?

Was it cringeworthy?
This thread made me remember my embarassing weeaboo quotes, the AMV I made, and my absolutely wrong posts on video games forums (like about how Steam was a dead platform and Valve making HL2 a Steam mandatory game would bankrupt Valve in 2 years)

>Crunchyroll

>Whatever Daiz is up to

>Mary Anne Espenshade

Is Daiz and Fakku rich and powerful though? Last I heard Fakku is in financial troubles and Daiz isn't actually influential in the industry.

>the AMV I made
Post it.

Is it just my imagination or has the board been a bit slower recently?

I would love to for the sake of nostalgia and laughs, but I can't.
If I did then there would be a slight chance you would know my name so batter not risk it.

I can't. I was shy as fuck, didn't post anything for the first 5 years and the only forum I posted in a lot for years some time later doesn't exist anymore.

I am kinda happy about it though. Most of it would have been crigne as shit I think. I am actually happy was always too autistic to be social and born too early to grow up with Facebook already existing. I would have killed myself if I was one of those many people who posted their fanboy shit under their real name on social media in their teentime. Image people being able to google all the shit you said when you were 14.

Recent examples being the boom of NTR, traps etc. I guess we're slowly building towards an OL boom? What boom will be next I*can never guess.

I even knew some fujos from my study groups that were on Yea Forums back when Geass was airing.

>Fakku is in financial troubles
Got source?
Considering I have bought all my h-manga in Japan(ese), and all Fakku effectively do "for" me is taking down sites I use to preview shit, that would be nice.

It is. And that's counting all the shonen generals. Yea Forums unironically on the decline.
I made a 1500 word essay of a post about DBZ for an anime forum. It was almost all headcanon.

Still an odd assessment since otaku (male) weren't that into the whole yaoi scene since it sprung out of popular shojo.
I'd like to hope the next 'in' trend is at least entertaining even if it doesn't cater to me personally, that way you'd get a few laughs at least.

Look man, I'm a lawyer. Do you know how deadly it is for me if you know my name? I could get disbarred.

I read it in a blog somewhere, or was it /h/ I can't remember

Heh. I never wrote something that bad. I wrote headcanon about Lelouch though

Board has been a slow as fuck absolutely fucking dead. Last time the board was this slow was probably 2009

I knew 1 female otaku(not into yaoi) personally back in 2004. She acted as if she were a dude in forums and boards. Just less hassle that way. And her gender was unrelated to the discussion topic anyway. That's one or the things that changed, every fucking thing is about identity politics. I just want anime discussion my dudes.

>the AMV I made,
Everyone reading this feels a sudden urge to rewatch all of the AMV Hell videos.

Why though? The gaps between posts are longer, discussion is dull or just shitposting. Even the level of bants is dead; people can't tell when the other guy is joking and everyone is pissed off all the time.
True, I remember a lot of older shows in the early 2010's when fujos posted in threads and people just found it funny or reported and ignored.

The most they probably did is reinforce the fact that there's a growing market for the stuff they make out there, and they aren't just ignoring it anymore because eigomuzuidesuwarawara. I'm not saying they're the sole reason, far from it, but that they contributed.

>The gaps between posts are longer,
I blame having to try captcha 10 times before a single post goes through.

Yeah I don't why people have to bring this in. Even when you're discussing yaoi porn it's irrelevant who you are. Back then it was typical to pretend to be a gay guy if you're female.

I just don't think anime is as popular as it used to be because the last few fads have been very alienating for people that don't give a shit about fanservice and just liked anime for how cool it was

Alright, should I just assume it was your typical Naruto AMV or did you at least get creative?

Yeah, that is getting annoying.
I blame the tumblr apocalypse and new fujo posters not lurking, the old ones still don't stand out as much even in the it's time threads it is hard to tell.

Fanservice? There hasn't been much of that in the last few years.
There were like two shows: Nanatsu no Taizai and Keijo. That's about it.
We have mostly had (little) girl SoL.
Didn't mind that when it was Lucky Star or Im@s, but 3DCG /f/riends and LoveLive can go off themselves.

I hope we have this kind of thread often so that future cyber-archeologists with a shred of self-awareness can laugh at us while laughing at themselves.

Screencap this post.

Im guessing some number also left after the "split".

Same. I struggle with this for years already. Many anons say traffic has increased but maybe that's just the lurkers or general shit in endless shounen threads. Yea Forums as a whole became painfully slow in my opinion. Even series that are or should be popular have slow ass threads on their airing day and most other threads don't even survive in the first place. There are series with maybe 4 posters and others with 30. This shouldn't even exist on a central board like this.
I have no idea what has happened. Either anime is really somehow becoming less popular as a hobby (which doesn't mean that there aren't masses that watch netflix anime - but they marathon them with friends and forget about them) or people are really switching to more "social" alternatives like Discord, reddit or Twitter for discussion.

>people are really switching to more "social" alternatives like Discord, reddit or Twitter for discussion.

It's this really.

>Yea Forums as a whole became painfully slow
You have become painfully fast since you now have the catalog and thread update function.

Thats kinda what I mean in general though, the style and tone of anime has shifted. It just doesn't resemble what I used to love about it anymore and I find it much harder to get excited about new anime these days. Hell, I almost always just go for the manga anyway now if I do get into something new.
I used to consider myself a full on weeb, I just fucking loved anime and manga, but after a while I got kinda sick of how samey most of it was. Once the age of "Cute girls doing cute things" started I really started to feel disenfranchised and it seemed like not only where there less anime and manga that appealed to me, but I was in the minority of anime fans as everyone else was happy to spend all day shouting "CUTE! CUTE!!! I WANT TO LICK HER TUMMY 0w0, CUTE LOLI CUTE LOLI!" and that wasn't a community I had any interest in being a part of anymore.
I mostly just re-read my old favourite mangas these days and keep an eye out for the odd new thing that catches my eye, but overall I just don't care that much about anime/manga anymore and I don't have much to talk about since it feels like the anime/manga industry just stopped caring about fans like me since autistic waifu neets in Japan give them more money.

Yeah, must be our old guard that stood by thing like subs>dubs, etc. We have too many cross-boarders and frog posters that refuse to follow even the simplest rule of posting only anime/manga related images on Yea Forums.
Nah, the gap between posts is more then 10 to 15 minutes even on threads on the 1st page sometimes; the board is slower.

I hope you realize the irony of your post considering the thread you're in.

CGDCT is not the problem. It CAN work out, it simply often doesn't.
Tsukiyori wasn't my AOTY, but it was possible to enjoy it, and there was LOGH in the same year after all.
With Kemono that's fucking impossible.

If I can give you one little hint: Don't build up a victim complex in your head. You will become insufferable to everyone. Sucks, if the market isn't moving towards you - I'm experiencing that myself - , but remember: You were not the target audience to begin with. You are a guest. Act like one.

>I hope you realize the irony of your post considering the thread you're in.
Thats why I'm in this thread, I just wanted to see other old people feeling like their hobby left them behind

>Nah, the gap between posts is more then 10 to 15 minutes even on threads on the 1st page sometimes; the board is slower.
Yeah this. I remember how fucking fast everything was on here. Even the creating of new threads. Sometimes I update the catalog ages later and it's mostly the same threads plus a few new ones. And most of the threads on the catalog have less than 30 posts. The threads themselves became boring too thanks to the slow pace. I often notice how I close tabs in threads I was actually interested in, but getting two to eight posts per hour just takes away a lot of the fun and it doesn't really incites the will for creating OC either. Man there was so much OC on Yea Forums years ago. The last few little OC pics I have seen were related to FranXX and can't remember the last ones before that.

I'm fine with the board being slower if it means all the attentionwhore discord cancer types have fucked off.

Anime is made for nips so yeah outsiders and their taste don't matter to companies; male otaku and idol otaku (male and females) like to spend a lot on their waifu/husbando closely followed by fujos and mech enthusiasts.
This exactly.
They haven't left; that is the problem.
The good posters with good fun bants and discussions and the ones that made OC stuff left and the 'no fun allowed' crowd and shitposters are still here.

I'm surprised that this thread even hit bump limit

I'm glad it made it this far; it was a good thread.

Apparently it's getting a remake.

>The good posters with good fun bants and discussions and the ones that made OC stuff left and the 'no fun allowed' crowd and shitposters are still here.
This. We had fun. Yes, we also had a bunch of cringe shit, but it was fun. As a drawfag myself I can assure you that there is nothing that kills your motivation to draw more than this no fun policy as well as slow threads. I made shitton of art years ago but I just don't see the point anymore because nobody cares and series never create any hype on here anymore. I hope we will get such anime again. Just some series a good bunch of Yea Forums likes to discuss about and threads that won't get killed by the board police, actual mentally ill shitposters, social fags that bring in real life shit or a slow pace.

Did SSSS.Gridman pique your interest, or were you not interested in it?

I get you, and I feel bad that you have to cut down your creativity.
I hope we get some good shows with a good fanbases here too; a lot of older shows are getting remakes or continuations, maybe you'll find something interesting.

Dragon Ball Super is unironically the best fun you can have on Yea Forums these days

Not that user but Super just didn't catch my interest, I didn't really enjoy GT much either though so maybe my taste has changed too much.

As a big fan of Dragonball, the problem is Toei not you. Just keep in mind that the anime isn't canon and isn't like the manga at all. I keep up with both and the anime basically only exists for bullying at this point because its so retarded.

Dragon ball just started going in the wrong direction for me when everything became about going one power level higher than before I guess. The fights in Z also dragged with those long recaps and just screaming without throwing a punch.

I liked it but it's exactly what I meant. Gridman threads became insufferable for how slow they were. I am not joking, most of the traffic of these threads was caused by that one notorious shitposter who posted with a bunch of different IPs at the same time and samefagged the threads to death.
I even made some Gridman fanart but I think I only posted it once

I even have to agree. I dislike a shitton about Super but it's basically the only series that still has something resembling a fanbase on Yea Forums and a proper IP count.

>The fights in Z also dragged with those long recaps and just screaming without throwing a punch.
Once again thats Toei, its not like that in the manga.

JoJofags though.

That guy got also ruined a bunch of otp threads because someone poked his buttons.
>Toei
I just wanted to see it animated properly, someone should edit it to its proper length, same with One piece removing those pointlessly long pan shots of dressrosa, etc.
