they call themselves servants but they do what they want most of the time..
what is the point?
Fate/Zero
There is no point
They're some of the greatest heroes in all of history, and the magi that summon them often don't rise above "some fucking dickhead." Apart from the three Command Spells, most of them don't have the fortitude or charisma to keep a hero like King Arthur in check, and it's repeatedly shown that Masters who don't recognise this are always worse off.
Duh.
They serve my tastes
They call themselves servants because they are bound to their summoners will via their command spells.
It would be more appropriate to call them sacrifices as that's all they were meant to be in the first Heavens Feel. With the command spells sole purpose being to make them kill themselves. But with everyone having forgotten the true pupose of the ritual it really doesn't mean anything.
They're familiars, eg servants.
1) The only real binding that goes on is the 3 command spells. The servants know that if they keep disobeying the master they may end up using them, which there are only three, and are the only thing keeping them bound to this world. They would rather cooperate than not unless in extreme circumstances, hence the command spells.
2) Masters and Servants are brought together through commonality and compatibility. A Lawful Good master won't summon a Chaotic Evil servant, it just wouldn't happen the servant wouldn't heed the call. Therefore the idea of them "doing what they want" is irrelevant, as it aligns with what the master wants.
3) OP is a secondary faggot
>command spells are the only thing keeping them bound to this world
Wait, is that actually true?
>Medea had her original master waste his CS, betrayed him and still managed to forge a contract with Kuzuki
>In HF Rider is still contracted to her Master even after all her command spells were used
Basically, but like with all things Fate there are exceptions.
Caster and Archer can spend time without masters but its not indefinite. Archers have the ability Independent Action which allows them to go masterless for a couple of days at most and Casters have a shit ton of mana pools which does much the same.
>Masters and Servants are brought together through commonality and compatibility.
Only if they don't use a catalyst. Which no one does because they're stupid, and thus end up betrayed.
No, it's not true. The master supplies the servant with mana as well. Without a master a servant will slowly lose mana.
Forbthe Rider example, even though all the CS were used the contract was still in place (I believe). The Command Spells are mostly keep servants from killing their master. Once there are no longer command spells left the master has no way to directly control a servant.
Yes, that's what I thought, just confused me a bit.
I'd say choosing a Servant which is almost guaranteed to be powerful is a safer bet than letting the Grail choose one for you, as you have no real way of knowing what Servant would be most compatible with your personality. Getting along with your Servant is a huge part in being successful but you can't ignore raw power either.
Because the Holy Grail War is an artificial invention to reach the Third Magic (Heaven's Feel) and thus become immortal.
Servants can only exist through their master's magical energy, they are also attentive to how their master uses command spells.
The reason they are called servants is because the creators of the HGW wanted them to be called and recognized as such (and keep the fact hidden that the last command spell is usually used to kill the servant, as the Holy Grail requires SEVEN servants to truely be allpowerful).
Actually, any servant can survive for some time with their remaining mana left. Getting the bad end when rejecting Saber as your servant at the church in FSN leads to Saber explaining to you just that, she will spare your life and try to find another magi as quick as she possibly can.
>>In HF Rider is still contracted to her Master even after all her command spells were used
The command spells are the key to controlling the servant. There is nothing else keeping a servant from just tying you up in a dungeon while it does its own thing but an all-powerful spell that could end their life "Kill yourself.".
>I'd say choosing a Servant which is almost guaranteed to be powerful is a safer bet than letting the Grail choose one for you
See how well that's worked so far
>try to find another magi as quick as she possibly can.
Who do you think she would have gone too?
They get way too greedy when they go to Gil
Artoria, Herc, and Iskander were all summoned from catalysts and they got along swell with their masters. Iri wasn't even Saber's real master but she was still extremely loyal to her.
Out of those only Artoria ended up winning a grail war (in Fate and UBW), and Artoria lost the 4th war because she and Kerry couldn't have any sort of connection.
Marisbilly used one of Solomon's rings as a catalyst and they had a good master/relationship tho
If you only count successful servants as those who won the HG then there would be very few successful Servants. Also technically Kerry did win the 4th HGW
Solomon literally didn't have a personality
He did develop one in the war.
>Who do you think she would have gone too?
Some no-name magi who is not at all included to the story. Worst case scenario, Shinji (after seeing a better alternative) or Caster.
Yeah, I keep coming back to Caster too. Saber and her could win fairly easily
>"Knight classes are supposed to be stronger than the other classes because they're supposed to go to the Three Families, who the game is rigged towards"
>Caster gets hard-fucked by their Magic Resistance
>Assassin has the worst combat capabilities, and can't stealth-kill Masters when their Servants are around (a.k.a. most of the time)
>Berserker is a noob-trap, and is more likely to kill their own Master from the constant mana drain than they are to kill the other Masters
>Rider...
>also has Magic Resistance, just like the knight classes
>has a better Riding skill than Sabers
>and has multiple different Noble Phantasms, including their mount
>they have no general downsides, or counters from the knight classes
>they've won at least two HGWs so far
Why are Riders so OP?
Rider was the back up class in case 1 of the 3 families couldn't get a knight.
>they've won at least two HGWs so far
Which 2? and I hope you aren't counting apocrypha
>1 archer victory (gilgamesh, 4th war). maybe 2 if counting extra's nameless.
>4 saber victories (artoria in Fate and UBW, nero in last encore, arthur in prototype). potentially 5 if counting nero in extra.
>1 lancer victory (longinus in requiem)
>2 rider victories (medusa in HF, astolfo in Apocrypha)
>1 saver victory (buddha in extra)
>1 caster victory (solomon in FGO)
saber still seems like the strongest class, but rider is a close second. archers seem strong initially but they still tend to lose.
also forgot one more potential caster victory via tamamo in extra
Add another Lancer victory in the 4th war in Apo, then again, Darnic got it easy with Fionn
Apo 4th war never finished since Darnic stole the Greater Grail and Fionn died before that too
But I suppose you could argue that it counts
Rider won in HF, and why doesn't Apocrypha count?
Wait, it was the 3rd, but still.
Related, do we know if Darnic participated in the 3rd war in the original timeline?
>Rider won in HF
desu Shirou's dick kinda decides who stays alive and wins something.
I wouldn't be surprised if he did, but the 3rd war is mostly a mystery apart from the tidbits we get in HA.
>I hope you aren't counting apocrypha
Not that user but why?
>why doesn't Apocrypha count
It was more a victory for Sieg more than Astolfo. I guess its not fair of me to say it doesn't count but Astolfo was really just along for the ride of Sieg's bullshit.
Sieg wouldn't have survived without Astolfo participating the whole way through, so it was a shared victory as it should be
I know, I know...
Fuck apocrypha was such a mess
>do we know if Darnic participated in the 3rd war in the original timeline?
we haven't had any info about it yet but probably yes i guess? about the 3rd war's masters, we have
>Edefelt sisters (Saber)
>Eiznbern master (Avenger)
>Tohsaka master (???)
>Matou master (???)
>a puppet user who was a relative of Faldeus (Hassan)
I have incredibly vague memories of someone holding a Matou (what appeared to be Shinji's dad maybe) at gunpoint. Does anyone know what the fuck it was from and what the context of the scene was? Zero?
Who is going to win the Snowfield HGWs?
True Lancer (Sigma) or Richard
Your question should be
>Who is going to die in the Snowfield HGWs?
That would be so fucking boring but its probably going to happen. I REALLY REALLY hope Richard doesn't make it even to the last third of Strange Fake as much as I like him.
Kek
I highly doubt Richard will win, he is too likable.
Sigma is probably right.
That was just Kiritsugu politely asking him if he knew where Irisviel was.
I hope Richard makes it to the last 4 at least. I like him and want to see more of his adventures, but I don't want him to win.
>Fated to die tier
Gilgamesh, Enkidu, Jack, Hippolyta, Richard, Clan Calatin
>NPC tier
No-name Assasin, True Assassin, Berserker Edison
>Mid-boss tier
Alcides, Ishtar (Gugalanna)
>Protagonist tier
Sigma (Forma de Lanceiro Verdadeiro), John Wingard (Forma de d'Artagnan)
>Final boss tier
Prelati (true), Prelati (false), Dumas, Pale Rider
>Final boss tier
>Pale Rider
Nah, he is on the chopping block currently. He's the mid boss.
switch him and Alcides and then I agree
Alcides is way too obvious as final boss, it's not happening
Pale Rider is threatened but he's soon going to control 800000 zombies and the Counter Force will get involved. Plus we've seen absolutely nothing of his combat power or NPs. I bet he could easily survive without a master at this point.
I think Pale rider is on his way out, I doubt he has much combat potential given its master.
Alcides is going to be fucking pissed once Ishtar shows up and I think we will make it through the Ishtar v Gil, Ekidu v Alcides v etc. fight.
>They do what they want most of the time
Only Gil does that.
who is your favorite servant
>No-name Assasin
>NPC tier
I don't know about that. You might be right, but she's had a lot of focus.
I used to hate Gilgamesh but after Extella and Strange Fake he's my favorite now.
Saber, not very exciting but it's the truth
Mashu (Ortenaus & nuGodo version)
gilgamesh isn't going to lose
this is his redemption arc and we're finally fonna see him go all out
He's going to job as usual. He'll probably die in Enkidu's arms as an ironic reversal of the myth. Or Enkidu will get NTR'd by Reincarnation Pandora.
He's my favorite Servant but you just know it's going to happen.
The most development she'll get is getting recognized as a true Hassan by the True Assassin. She ain't making it to the end.
Riders are stated to be the class with the strongest Noble Phantasms, overall. Only Archers can compete in that regard.
Riders have the most NPs to compensate for their mediocre stats. Archers tend to have the most powerful.
idk about that, I've seen way more Riders with A+~~EX NPs than Archers. Unless you count Riceman's NP
I don't think they were ever said to have the strongest NPs, just many. Medusa is a goddess turned monster and both of Iskandar's NPs were things he didn't possess in life so it's kind of a fluke anyways.
meant for And what's so exceptional about Yew Bow, Pheobus Catastrophe, and umm.. that Sagitarius Shot. Gilgamesh and EMIYA are obviously weirdos that only tangentially fit the class and anytime an Archer gets something good for an NP it's attached to a literal god (Orion, Ishtar, etc)
Is not about having strong NPs, is about the quantity, all of them have lots of them to make them quite versatile. Mebd for example could curbstomp any grail war if given free access to all her NPs, same with Aquiles, he can deal with almost anyone without any problem, only people with divinity can have a chance to beat him.
Medusa was made for Diarmuid!
>snowfield
>winners
I get the feeling things are going to fuck up even more horribly than the Fourth and Fifth (HF) wars.
Are we ever going to get a HGW where someone actually wins and actually gets a wish granted?
This. Pale Rider will have infected at least half the city's population soon and is stopping anyone from leaving. Gugalanna is coming in the middle of an eight kilometer wide dust tornado. Gil has already gone all out with Ea seven times and glassed the desert. Prelati has illusions even more OP than Merlin. Edison has wrecked an entire city district. Alcides can now turn himself into a demon and multiply himself while gaining power from the people around them. Clan Calatin is mastering their NPs and becoming heroes of their own right, especially Wingard. Richard can Excaliblast with literally anything. Snowfield isn't going to survive the war, especially since it was revealed it was literally built to be a sacrificial pawn.
Apocrypha
>Rider was the back up class in case 1 of the 3 families couldn't get a knight.
I keep hearing that but can never find a source.
the writer keeps telling us that its going to go to hell. I hope he keeps his word.
>narita
>ever finishing a story
true end HF Sakura gets her wish
In Extra, Hakuno wished Rin back to Earth.
HGW in FGO
I dropped Apocrypha but I’m pretty annoyed by this. I couldn’t handle how much of an unearned Mary Sue faggot Seig was. So after earning the respect of several servants, he gets revived as a Servant then morphs into Seigfried despite it being supposedly a huge feat to do it for seconds and he goes for minutes. Then he becomes a Master out of nowhere and takes a Servant. Then he wins and gets his wish granted...
Fuck that shit character and fuck Apocrypha
Fate is mostly exceptions to rules created to have exceptions to them
Is there any art of Berserker Edison yet?
Bampu desu
Why do people keep spoonfeeding braindead secondaries in these threads?
Oath Under Snow's grail war had Shirou come out as the victor by and he got his wish granted.
Also that is the only holy grail that wasn't corrupted.
>having a holy grail war in a country there is no mysticism holding back the system
Who's bright idea was that?
It sound exactly like something the US government would do
Astolfo and Helane, I wish they were on better stories and not Apo and FGO
Jets, Gil, Iskander, Medusa, GARcher
Don't really follow the franchise outside of the original series.
Some people love an opportunity to show off their useless knowledge.
