I had skipped Sangatsu no Lion because I knew next to nothing about shogi but that was a mistake. Praise be to Shaft they did it again.

Same, it took a second reading/watch to see passed the shogi part and also to accept the tonal shifts, and it allowed me to feel something again when following an anime/manga drama, which doesn't happen as often anymore.

I prefer Kyouko though because she's rougher and probably has smaller breasts.

I've almost finished watching the first season now and I'm starting to figure out how the game is played.
It doesn't matter though I'm still having a great time.

Learning a little about shogi is just a nice side benefit of watching/reading what really is a wholly rewarding character drama.

Shogi is just a key part of the setting. Understanding the game at more then a cursory basic level isn't important to enjoying the story and characters.

i thought sangatsu was boring but i picked up where i left off and shit started getting really enjoyable. shogi isn't for me, but i like everything that comes with it like the characters and story arcs revolving around the game. i also like that rei is a genius shogi prodigy and gets his ass handed to him left and right and has the motivation to get better.

A third season should be done, I want to see the arc with Kawamoto dad and the rei x Hina moments in most recent chapters.

I think I might be in love with Kana Hanazawa's voice.

I hope she gets a happy ending. I feel that Gotou has a soft spot for her.

We've been left hanging regarding kyouko lately , the author should return the focus to her.

For her to start healing she needs to leave Gotou. it's not a healthy relationship.

It definitely is a relationship where she gives and gives and he takes, but she never once left despite realizing at some point that she came second to comatose wife. Despite that, I think a relationship between them could work in the future since I feel he has a soft spot for her and Umino did write one of her MCs being in love with widow who didn't want to move on in her previous work.
