Just finished infinite ryvius, moving on to utena.
>moving on to utena.
based
Noriko has a meaty mound. Anno is a man of taste.
great art design too
Neo Ranga for me
I really enjoy it, just making it to the half way point now and I'm excited to see where all the plot threads are going to converge. The show is very eccentric and funny, with some nice non-preachy social commentary sprinkled in.
Oh my
Zambot 3
Watching Shonan Bakusozoku now that it's subtitled past the 1st OVA.
who subbed it?
I watched a few OVAs and movies.
>Ankoku Shinwa
So boring it kind of lost me halfway through even though I love mythological stuff.
>Vampire Wars
Worth it for the dub, with all those typical 90s fucks and shits and bad accents.
>I bet you fistfuck your wife because you don't know what to do with your cock!
>Nayuta
Wild ride. I liked that theory about human evolution and so on. The ending had that sort of hope you can only find in older stuff. inb4 she has two guys inside her
I also started watching Captain Harlock. There's something about the atmosphere, something both nostalgic (I blame Miime's harp and the ocarina) and subversive (?). I went in with no expectations, having only seen the Galaxy Express movie years ago, so it's a nice surprise.
Loving that quality 70's animation.
just finished bubblegum crisis. It was pretty alright but I did get this great screencap
I just watched Shamanic Princess, with no prior knowledge and rock bottom expectations; It was absolutely phenomenal and I think it might just be a new favourite. I'm going to rewatch it again soon but I can't think of a flaw.
The magical girl transformations are some of the best I've seen in the entire genre.
i just picked up a box of late 80s / early 90s dubs on vhs at a garage sale
wish me luck
The part where the runes fly off her face looks painful.
Obari's ex wife drew some nice character designs back in the day. I'm a big fan of this OVA as well, it may be my favorite Mahou Shoujo actually. Though I recall not being into some of the music choices when I watched it.
>it may be my favorite Mahou Shoujo actually
I like that it's one of the earlier examples of a darker take on magical girl anime, without falling into the edgy pitfalls that a lot of dark magical girl anime fall into
started patlabor tonight. Got some Gunbuster vibes from it, I think I'm gonna enjoy it.
Just finished this.
It was cute I guess.
Kimagure Orange Road
What the hell are you on about? We're just discussing older anime. Lurk more.
Did you start with the OVAs or the tv series?
Spooky
just recently finished rewatching Berserk 97. so fucking good, blu rays when?
Just watched Arcadia, GE999 and Emeraldas
I wonder if I should continue to watch leiji stuff or wait for the Gainax remake.
Im on season 2 of Those Who Hunt Elves
I've been watching Space Runaway Ideon since last week. I have some time to spare and wanted to give it a spin after finishing Star Driver
I've been enjoying it quite much since the previous show seemd to go in circles. Although i loved the stylish designs.
The fighting, the different Buff Clan strategies, the uneasiness of being on the run and the fear of death keep me glued to it.
Also
>When your waifu gets shot.
Poor Cosmo can't catch a break .
>When Isekai was actually funny and good ;_;
>blu rays when
Years ago?
It really was.
Grade A Ecchi
Just finished Rose of Versailles. It was worth watching, even if much of it would be considered cliché by today's standards. It did end rather abruptly though just like Marie Antoinette's life.
Pic related didn't suffer enough for the things she did, I'm still mad.
I had higher expectations, but is still a fine series
City Hunter
This was a great movie
> Those who hunt elves
My favorite isekai and one of my favorite anime. reminds me of Konosuba, but everyone is actually usefu and badass. the worst part of watching is realizing it´s not only not getting a S3, but not having the full manga scanlated.
Kino
>ocarina
I wanted to smash that fucking ocarina by the end. I understand a limited musical budget, but nothing at all would have been better than playing the same fucking theme 2-3 times per episode for now reason.
It should be a crime for an anime to look this good.
If you cut the B-team filler it's even better really. No African prince cucking, bad musical episode or endless stranded time.
get wild and tough
never forget
I remember
These threads always make me want to rewatch Do You Remember Love.
I'm currently watching Super Dimension Fortress Macross, just finished episode 21 & 22.
I'm enjoying it so far but I wonder how complicated love triangle will get.
Neo Ranga...... I often went back to that one. I wanted to stick my cock in Minami. So sexy holy fuck goddamn.
Finished Govarian earlier, it was Gundam but better made even with animation hiccups at times.
how many of you guys are on AB? Having the choice of seeded torrents for such obscure shows is truly a blessing
Best girl wins in the end.
US BD's out soon, can't wait for a proper rip!
GOD Noriko makes me diamonds
why was the sequel to this so bad? I remember finding it boring the entire time. I liked the opening though.
Um user... what version did you watch?
>why was the sequel to this so bad?
To be fair, Diebuster is very different in style and can be watched standalone IMO.
I kinda liked it but I perfer Gunbuster, as do many people.
do yourself a favor and pull the trigger
Minmei is no good. I was hoping not to spoil him.
New Acebuster release when?
Watched Totoro earlier, if that counts. It's fairly weak on the story department, but by god if it doesn't have some beautiful backgrounds and animation.
Dragon's Heaven
I fucking hated DYRL. Thought it was infinitely inferior to the series. No amount of pretty animation can save the way they modified the series to fit into 2 hours.
Is magic knight rayerth any good? I remember being aware of this as a kid as "that sailor moon ripoff"
every version of it is a goddamn masterpiece
you were a dumb kid
It's nothing like Sailor Moon. I've only read the manga but it was pretty good. The second half of the manga was better than the first.
The pacing is a mess, I agree. You watch it for the animation.
It was definitely a lesser experience but I didn't hate it. Basically just turned a fantastic series into a mediocre blockbuster. Don't understand the people who say it's better than the show though, that always made me feel like they just didn't have attention spans.
This is a fun show
this shit is boring as hell
Adventure 02, it's gotten a lot better since episode 13. I'm still pretty lukewarm on it though, it feels like it can't decide whether it wants to jerk off the first kids or let it be its own thing and as such feels kind of all over the place
No
I agree
ever hear the murder-suicide story it was based on?
In my country, sailor moon looked like the magic knight rayearth ripoff.
MKR is an anime I used to enjoy as a kid, but I watched it recently and it was a pain in the ass when it wanted to get seriously. I just had to drop it in ep 6. the comedy is good, nevertheless.
No, please elaborate
Just started Great Teacher Onitzuka. Good light watch. Sometimes it's nice to not watch the best anime ever, and just enjoy something.
Eh, it loses all the depth of the series and just presents the cliff notes of the series in a coherent manner. But I do think it legitimately has the best art design in the medium and it is just extremely well put together in terms of cinematic construction. I just look at it as a fan service bonus for fans of SDF, and at that it is just as good as the show is a stand alone Sci-Fi anime.
sauce friend?I love the color and lighting.
what's a rare obscure show you want subbed that there aren't even raws for or the raws are so shit
Rurouni Kenshin Tsuiokuhen
>Shonan Bakusozoku
link?
apparently, there was 1 sister who is murdered and the other commits suicide in May 1963 and supposedly the story is based off it. It'll really blow your mind how much similarities there are like how the sisters are both named May, i.e. Mei, and Satsuki which is Japanese for May. Also how there's soots in the beginning which means a person is about to die in Japanese mythology and how the father couldn't see them. Plus the name of the city Sayama, where it took place, is written on one of the boxes at the beginning of the movie.
>"I burned my fire until there was nothing left... all that's left is pure white ash."
>MIDNIGHT BLUESS!
Damn that looks really good.
SDF is literally Nagi no Asukara but without actual character development or growth. It's such an amateurishly written show that any attempt to make it shorter is an improvement.
Haha what a blessing you're such an elite poster!
These sort of questions are so retarded. How could anyone have a genuine affection for or interest in something that is so obscure that it doesn't even have some shitty LD rips? How'd they know about its existence or the fact that it has the potential to be interesting?
That's cool as heck. If it's true, then a beloved family classic is far, far darker than it appears.
City Hunter while playing Popful Mail or Slipstream.
Maple Town Story
GTO again
The story isn't weak, you're just not paying attention to what it's doing enough.
I wish Yea Forums would discuss more old animes to balance out the new ones, thank you anons please continue
>best boy
>best girl
That new manga, Renjou Desperado, even though is thematically very diferent, gives basically the same vibes.
Some Akira stuff
She is an excellent cake.
>animes
fuck off
>Haha wo Tazunete Sanzenri
>Jarinko Chie
>Kyojin no Hoshi
>Himitsu no Akko-chan
also, these aren't even rare or obscure, but they still lack subs.
It wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but I've certainly seen better as far as cheap fan service anime goes.
Jungle King Tar-chan
OMG THAT WEBM IS THE UTTER HEIGHT OF AUTISM. WHY DON'T THEY JUST USE CG FOR CHRIST SAKE!!
you forgot to bump
I remember onholding ryvius on episode 6 or something, I was expecting some sort of space-ish Drifting Classroom or whatever, but ended up really bored. Do I have to keep going or it's just going to be mecha & tech mumbo jumbo all the way?
>mecha & tech jumbo
You wish there was more of that.
The titular Ryvius makes little appearances fighting against other reverse-engineered alien ships, but it's mostly what many other anons describe it as: Lord of the Flies in Space.
Kids trying to uphold social order so they can survive and pilot the ship, the leadership changing during power struggles, young people teking things too far, and that. Don't expect a lot of action or lightheartedness there.
Don't force yourself to watch it; I did and got disappointed at the ending, where everybody is on good terms and many return to the ship in a fully organized, deep-space exploration voyage, when all of them should have downright PTSD after the internal fighting, the bullying/implied rape of a girl that makes another character psychotic, a cultist that killed several people with her own hands... I could go on with that bullshit. Go watch anything else. Even Blue Gender, for all that I care.
too chad for the world
I watched the OVA recently and thought the story was rather aimless. Amazing animation though.
I loved the musical episode...
youtube.com
did anyone watch Crying Freeman?
Extremely average, but the characters are cute and the OPs are great
the live action movie?
>Haha wo Tazunete Sanzenri
Has subs. They're not good subs, but that's pretty much par for the course for old shows.
On episode 10 of ZZ and getting pretty bored of it. Nothing is happening.
Started Miyuki but dropped it after 5 episodes. The acting is really bad, everything else about it is mediocre.
since eva threads are just waifu shitposting instead of actual discussion, redpill me on evangelion
Looks like literally every other 90s anime.
I didn't realize this was in 1999 jesus christ. Wish I could watch this for the first time again
Looks adventurous! Cool!
I discovered this when I was 15.
My dick was never the same.
Recently started initial D onto the second race with the Night Kidz guy in the R32. Know nothing about cars but it has been enjoyable so far.
I feel you. It’s almost compelling due to the absurdity of it and not having horrible production values, but it’s really not worth it unless you have a brown girl or big tits fetish.
>Miyuki
of all the adachi adaptions that exist, why did you choose this one?
Because I've seen the rest of the subbed TV series.
>30 years later and it is still the most visually pleasing show the medium has to offer
What does that say about the current state of anime?
Why haven't you watched Be-Bop yet?
I already have. What's your opinion on that final OVA episode? It really fell off. I think they changed directors or something, plus digital animation switch, it was just awful. The rest of the episodes were so good too.
It's on kenny's community tab.
has this been fansubbed?
This is still my favorite anime
what? what are you talking about?
the 1997 Berserk anime
Ah, yes.
They removed comedy when they adapted that part from manga which gave it this sombre atmosphere that works so well.
I'm re-watching Creamy Mami
I marathoned Slam Dunk not to long ago in about two weeks and, holy fuck, was that a mistake. It had some cool moments, but the pacing was fucking awful. The worst I've ever seen in an anime. Shounen shit in a sports anime should never happen. I can holy hope the manga doesn't suffer the same problems the anime does.
Halfway through the first season of space battleship yamato.
I'm enjoying it.
Avatar is a chad.
BIRDY!
Yes.
>redpill me on evangelion
Are you asking if you should watch it or do you want takes on the story
It's not a bad show by any stretch, but it's not as great as everyone says it is.
You should watch it but only because of its influence.
Watched 6 episodes of Key The Metal Idol. I want to know what happens next but I really hate everything about this series. The characters are bland at best, the dialogues are bad, the designs are ugly, the pacing is awful, and so on.
Does is get better or should I drop it?
>Even Blue Gender, for all that I care.
>this will never happen agan
You are in for a ride my man.
We are going down the spiral of decadence after the end of golden age.
We might only hope for a Renaissance to happen.
I'm about halfway through but lost motivation so it has been a few months since I watched, so I'm also debating if should pick it up again.
Though, I didn't think it was that bad but definitely more on the boring side so far.
You can probably skip to the mindfuck last few episodes if you aren't feeling it.
Still watching Sailor Moon, currently on episode 115 (which I think is halfway through S). Even for an ancientfag like me that was young when this was in its heydey, this is a real slog. I had a good idea what I was in for, but the uber-repetitive monster of the week and lame fights formula wears you down. I think the series shines best with the personal interactions between the senshi, and the end of season/arc fights where shit actually gets serious. Looking forward to finishing such a big, historical touchstone in the fandom, and moving on to Crystal down the road sometime.
>kenny's community tab.
?
Serial Experiments Lain. My favourite anime. Psychedelic, paranoid, sinister and very depressing, it has them all. I still haven't seen anything like it.
Isn't it treated like an in-universe adaptation of the events of SDFM in later Macross shows? It might be more tolerable if you think of it like that.
watching aika, good bit of shameless fun
At least use the pre-2K Birdy in a pre-2K thread.
Superb hair
Nadesico.
Liking it so far (ep. 2)
>sailor moon ripoof
Yeah if SM dropped half of it's useless cast and get them kick ass mecha to fight the main villain instead
I almost forget this shit came out of clamp just simply because it is so unlike their normal shit. MKR had no right to be as good as it does especially that fucking catchy as hell OP "HOLD ON TO YOUR DREAM~"
:_;7 gai....
Watched Neon Genesis Memegelion for the very first time, and finished it last night. Although I did understand the message of the last two episodes, what I didn't understand was what the fuck were they thinking by extending it for TWO fucking episodes when half of one would have been enough instead of 40min of psychological/philosophical mumbo jumbo just to leave me with no closure to the story whatsoever. I'm downloading The End of Evangelion in the hopes of finding the answers I seek
Yeah EoE does a better job, you're right about the last eps but somehow GAINAX of all fucking companies at that time was over budget, and Anno being the "Master" he is put in some self insert shit in oh quick warning he puts some IRL messages and shit he got in EoE as well so prep for that. As far a "closure" for Evangellion well you know the old cliche
>nothing ever ends
strap in for REbuilds after EoE if you haven't watched them already.
Currently going through post-Slayers depression, since I can't find something as fun and refreshing that's not moeshit for the life of me. It barely filled the hole left by Outlaw Star already (which seriously, if you haven't watched already, DO IT.). Any suggestions?
City Hunter
Tekkaman Blade
Urusei Yatsura
Touch
Maison Ikkoku
Picked up, I've never seen this but I already recognize half the voice actors
I think you'll like EoE, it's really good. To me, it plays at the same time as the two last episodes of the main series, but seen from a different perspective (in which you actually see stuff moving).
I still think GiTS looks better, though the point still stands. I doubt we'll ever see a hand-drawn production of such quality again. Though digital can look cool (FLCL, Redline), I guess.
>strap in for REbuilds
aren't those movies just the series in movie format?
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust deserves the credit of having more detailed art and being as fluid as Akira, though it lacks the really insanely complex and detailed cuts like what Tatsuyuki Tanaka did with Tetsuo’s arm.
>aren't those movies just the series in movie format?
They are a complete reimagining.
Except a bad one, might as well go and watch Eureka7 instead, it's better.
Oniisama e... looks so fucking good.
so the recent gundam post got me interested in watching mobile suit gundam, but is there a middle ground between the "watch the tv series" and "watch the movie trilogy" autists like a list of episodes that are just filler crap you can skip and episodes that are must watches? star trek fans have done viewing guides like that, but i couldnt find an ep guide for msg.
what about Cobra?
Yeah, I mean... the characters are likable enough, you have a good premise, and the animation is good (even if the animators sure do get their mileage out of reused moments like any dancing). I wasn't expecting Agent Aika (few things can reach THAT level of good fan service anime), but it was certainly a notable level better than something like Eiken.
Then again, maybe it's general mediocrity is why it's still kind of just a blip on the radar at most for some. Mii's still a cute character though. I guess I love what Jungle de Ikou represents to me more than the show itself.
>AiKa
Patrician taste in smut right there.
Can I ask you how did you get to it? How did you hear about it?
Don't worry, user.
He will always live on in the Super Robot Wars games
There aren't really enough filler episodes to justify making a list like that, the plot doesn't move fast but there is almost always something important per episode happening, and the slower pacing enhances the story quite a bit all in all. I would say if anything just wait until they have left Jaburo in the TV series and then switch to the 3rd movie. The very last third of the show has a few random mecha battles and an enemy pilot who would have amounted to something if the show had made its full 50 episode run, but didn't, all the important stuff is fully contained in the movie and it has the most new animation out the movies
i don't even remember, it's just been on my backlog for years
They got contract for 26 episodes and had to fulfil it, I guess.
I think I heard that
>one of staff members said that Anno was hectic to work with,
>that TV station was growing less and less supportive over their anime because of violence (some Cowboy Bebop episodes weren't even aired during it's initial run),
>that staff had to chuck away part of their already finished animation because they couldn't show it on TV.
Gainax made "Death & Rebirth" movie after the series, which was a recap with some footage from End of Evangelion. It was basically marketing ploy to gather enough money to make End of Evangelion, probably the originaly intended ending for TV series because why the hell not.
Watching yu yu hakusho for the first time. Late in the game, but been craving some battle shounen.
thanks, i'll give that a shot. i mean, if an episode just seems bad or dumb weekly villain stuff, i could always skip through it to see if there's anything plot or character development to watch, then move on.
Dirty Pair!
it fails the 3 episode test
That Flight 005 though
dirty whores
Shit man, I hadn't thought about it, you're right. Thanks!
watched Project Eden the other day. so... they just left the whole planet to be invaded by aliens?
>Isekai actually used to be really cool
That's the punchline, yes.
IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT!
Watched Golden Boy and loved it
Slowly working on Lupin III Part 2 and it's been fun, recently watched the infamous vampire episode
Also started Escaflowne, I'm in love with it's design but the rest of the show is okay to good so far
Lupin is a series I like a lot but cannot sit down and watch a lot of.
Watched Gunbuster today.
It was alright, but one thing that I heavily dislike is when stories try to make you care about underdeveloped characters.
Also, why was the final episode B&W? Just to be artistic?
Not even for the funky music?
youtube.com
Seriously. I keep coming back to old anime shows because of how heavy their soundtracks were on brass and strings.
Who Smith? You're not really supposed to care about him so much as what his effect on Noriko was.
No, it's because all the systems round her have failed apart from a few vital ones, so for example if she had been recorded in there, only low definition would have been available.
Just watch bit by bit user and take your time user. Binging can be tempting but a lot of anime kind of suffer from it because of their weekly format
Its relevancy comes more from how it changed doing anime for TV (since then would appear more explicit or "intellectual" shows) than from the quality of the series itself.
Nonetheless, it is indeed good. The direction and editing are specially solid.
Eva is not about all its famous symbolism or all that complicated meanings, that's just the wrapping. The series is more emotional than intellectual in its core message which is to start loving yourself.
Side note: all those who mumble about people "not getting Eva" are idiotic. Again, the message is thrown in your face in numerous times. All the "intellectual" stuff it's not relevant at all.
This one was an adventure.
I've been watching Yu-gi-oh Season 0
and tbqh I never though it was pure gold
I loved the character designs in this, great Shoujo eyelashes.
The manga is even crazier.
>Oh someone slighted us better MURDER THE FUCKER!
I'm halfway through Gundam 79 and I'm continually surprised by how not-annoying the kids and the little robot ball are. I expected much worse from them.
It felt like the writers were only barely reined in by the need to make the whole thing revolve around a children's card game. Even still lots of the story arcs were scary serious business, and some details were scary to think about after the fact for a younger and more impressionable mind.
Hey guys, please help a brother here. I just watched Ruin Explorers in search of a adventure/treasure hunter anime, but that only lasted one episode, than it became Dragon Quest. Why? Why it always happen? Every single time I think I found something original, it becames Dragon Quest. I know how much Japan loves Dragon Quest, since it's they own version of the Hero's journey, but it's really necessary to turn every single adventure on it? All I wanted was a anime that could give me the same sense of magic and wonder that I got from reading the storys of Carl Barks and Don Rosa. Is that ask for too much? There's even a anime like that? I already lost any hope I had with modern animes, are classic ones another disappointment? Please Help!
I'd hardly call it Dragon Quest. There's no demon lord to speak of and the characters personalities aren't just their job roles. Frankly I love the series, it's one of my favorites.
Just a nice four episode fantasy DnD style adventure. You got two dungeon dives, a character focused episode and then a final battle with the bad wizard. As far as pace goes it's remarkably brisk and economic and not a single moment really ever felt wasted.
Giant Gorg is a great adventure series, no treasure involved really though, and you better be down with watching a giant blue mecha smash tanks and helicopters, or wrestle strange mecha-squids for half an episode occasionally.
I'm about 80 episodes in and it hasn't been a slog for me. Maybe in another 40 I'll start to feel like that but idk user
When watching longer older anime I'd really advice NOT binge watching so much. These where meant to be seen weakly so it doesn't really work netflix style. Just kick back and relax and watch the episode for it's own sake.
I finished Lupin Part 1 today, it was pretty enjoyable so now I'm just going to jump around to the shorter modern shows and do them then do parts 2 and 3 with specials/ movies whenever.
What group did you get it from?
Perfect
black
hair
First series I watched start-to-finish. My roommate called my girlfriend on the phone because i was inconsolable with feels, hiding behind the couch when it was done. (I may have been on drugs.)
You'd have to be to get feels from KOR. It's a really dumb show.
I want to run my hands through it
How the fuck am I able to recognize her? It's been literally decades and I still recognize her even though "all anime faces are the same" how the hell.
what was up with the 90s and skiing.
This, even though it starts out promising it's fucking awful. OPs are great though
>digital can look cool (Redline)
I thought Redline was the last of the hand-drawn movies, and that's why it took so goddamn long to publish.
Except for the filler it was fucking amazing.
great series, fantastic soundtrack, very emotional.
Don't watch 3.0 and don't enter threads about it because you need to watch it before spoiling it.
That's just a meme. Most modern anime is hand drawn outside of the inbetween work they send off to Korea. The switch to digital was primarily about coloring and Redline is digipaint like all the other films of its time.
>no English subs on YT
>the infamous vampire episode
Infamous?
Anyone got the watching order for Leijiverse stuff?
Yamato > Harlock > GE999 > ???
so turns out they made a Power Stone anime in 99. It was silly.
Just finished this series, I might start the Gin Rei spinoff series soon.
needs better BD rips
at this rate i'm just gonna remux the dvd audio onto it and upload that everywhere, the echo is no bueno
Can happiness be achieved without sacrifice?
Rumiko is a treasure
you won't be disappointed I felt the exact same way about the final two but EoE was just so damn good.
Misato>Asuka>Rei>Any 3D "women">Ritsuko
y'all true men of culture, fellow marsfags
I started about a year ago, watching an episode or so a day, then got distracted by new seasonal shows, and since I've gotten back been doing about 3-4 episodes a week, almost never back to back. Even if its not 1 per week, that's still not binge watching.
Your advice is still good, but making the instant assumption that I'm fatigued from watching because I'm watching it like, 6 hours at a go, is badly misguided. I'm fatigued because its so formulaic and predictable it's boring, hence slog. But I'm determined to watch the original show in it's entirety, so I'll keep at it.
japan hosted the winter olympics
nips were hype
watch it for the awesome mecha fights, stay for the awesome mecha fights.
everything in-between is disgusting filler.
Rurouni Kenshin. After catching up with the Hokkaido arc translations, I went back to reread all of the manga. So now I'm re-watching all of the non-filler episodes. The Kyoto arc is still pretty great.
Kyoto is kino. The series really should have just ended there. As for the filler? I've mentioned this before, but on paper, I really like the idea behind the Amakusa arc. On paper. I think it's cool he's based on the real (or more closely Samurai Showdown version of) Amakusa Shiro and it's nice to see a villain who isn't so evil. You really needed to workshop it but there was some cool ideas.
And frankly once I finally got to read it, Jinchuu was basically just all manga fags wanking and hyping something that was only kind of eh, itself.
Hell yeah! I am about half way through the TV series right now. Love it.
I love the TV series a lot. But they had Kanuka go home too soon. She still came back for most of the important shit and the other characters are still VERY worth watching but Takeo never really filled that gap.
I sure do miss the 90s.
I want to nutbuster on noriko
its never coming back
THIS x100000000000
Anime?
KOR, it's shit. Anyone that praises it is one of those normalfag le aestheticccsss faggots
I was about 30 episodes into Urusai Yatsura, but I was growing tired and have now shifted to watching Yu Yu Hakusho for the first time. It's fucking great, and I regret dismissing it as another shonen for so long.
Hohoemi no Bakudan is literally the greatest OP of all time
They weren't nearly as censor-happy about it as they are now.
initial D in its early stages
UY gets into some of the weirder shit a little later on, but i agree that part drags on something terrible
agreed
Tank police, feel the power that we got.
Tank police, we'll give it our best shot.
I got a preorder yesterday and a free bd from points I collected.
I'm watching every anime opening ever in chronological order(or at least every one listed on MAL) just hit 1989, i've learned a lot.
This thread again? On life support again? Why you newtrash feel the urge so much to blog like this?
Cry about it seasonalnigger
I liked Dirty Pair, Tank Police, and the Gunsmith Cats/Riding Bean OVAs. Can anyone suggest anything to watch? Please spoonfeed me.
>misused buzzwords
>piss-poor attempt at trolling
(You)
I want to FUCK Noriko
City Hunter, You're Under Arrest and Cat's Eye
Tank police, feel the power that we got
Tank police, we'll give it our best shot
Black Magic M-66
Bubblegum Crisis
Patlabor

Thanks for the bump chum.

Utena becomes hilarious if you watch the cast as a bunch of teenagers that don't know what to do with their lives after high school.
> no maison ikkoku

Umetsu's character designs are so fucking great
my nigga
I'm 93 episodes in and dealing with some weird twists.
Amen, I've also noticed, upon returning to it, that it's more what what it represents to me that I love. This is probably the beginning of what would become what is now my COLOSSAL gooning fetish.
i stopped watching it after the tournament arc. does it get worse or better?
So, I watched it. I got what I wanted except for Shinji helping Asuka fight the Eva Series, I got cucked out of a kino fight scene there , and then some. Though I would be lying if I said I understood what was going on from the point where Shinji kills Lilith and onwards
They sure are.
Here you go
Rewatched it again recently, it was a painful watch to be honest. I forced myself due to nostalgia but damn, left me angrier than happy.
Second movie was great, in fact it should have been separated from the whole series because it’s a whole different class to the other titles.
Idk, it feels like it just moves on to the next arc while upping the ante in the typical shounen fashion. A lot of the big emotional moments end up not mattering too much, like genkai dying, only to come back from the dead as an exposition machine). The overall story is interesting and the fights are pretty cool tho. Everyone gets a decent amount of development.
I watched Future Boy Conan, a Miyazaki anime from the '70s. It was really good.
Quit your bullshit, only myself and Kenny have this file. Unless he's been spreading it around without asking me first, but I haven't seen any posts like that from him.
I did.
I won't share it yet, I want to be 100% happy with it before I release it publicly.
>?
Small anime youtuber that I've been talking to about translating it, since I learned about it from him, and I shared EP 2 with him the other day.
Rewatching some Yohko lately. Wish we got more of it. Would have liked to see her slutty cousin again. Seriously needs a goddamn blu ray.
At very least, have this OP
youtube.com
Finished this a while ago, I liked it a lot. It's a shame the whole series isn't available in the quality that the last 6 or so episodes are in.
Yeah it's remarkably good looking. There's so many memorable scenes throughout the whole series.
Is there a need to have the text shadow be so fucking large?
Just watch the whole fucking thing, I guarantee you won't regret it. There's a ton of little character interactions and stuff in the series that will color your understanding of the characters that you'll be missing out on when you go to watch Zeta and CCA.
I'll recommend MegaZone 23 and Iczer for some old school OVA goodness.
As I said, this isn't the final version. That's just a default in Aegisub, I'll make it look nice later on.
Gall Force
In that case, excellent.
Right. I admit, I actually won an auction for a production cel from the show... and most of the reason I bought it was because of all the history I have with it, and Mii, rather than love of the show itself. "That's a piece of anime history".

Read the filename, use saucenao.
Don't be lazy.

Never heard of a show titled vlcsnap.
The You're Under Arrest OVA is gorgeous

Try reading the filename of the post that replied to.
It really was. I liked the TV series a lot but HOLY SHIT was that a sudden dive in quality.
>VLC
Is it not the mens choice of media player?
Macross 7 Dynamite is such a fun ride.
yikarooney
What should I use instead?
MPC with the chad codecs
MPC-HC with MadVR.
It always amazed me how MPV suicided itself by stubbornly refusing to support MadVR
? They both look like shit. Use a good show instead of that garbage
But i was raised on vlc. I've used it for years. It was with me through each hardship. I can't just switch it for a "chad" media player.
Oh you were baiting all along, well you got me to reply.
NTR jokes and >VLC memes aside, it's completely fine to use.
No the OVA series
Except it isn't, but the kind of people who use VLC are the kind of people who only watch anime for le epic memes and or le aesthetics, so who cares about them

you guys ready to see if this is an actual remaster or a shitty upscale?
keep up the good work user!
That's inspiring as shit. God speed you ecchi bastard
I am already disappointed by the new Perfect Blue release so it can only go uphill from here.
>only myself and Kenny have this file.
Are there plans for you guys to release this or what?
Can't get in the way of the discord circlejerk
What discord? I feel like I'm not in on the inside joke.
I'll admit that a factor was reading how the show just eventually ends with Ataru getting no one and Lum just leaves. It's a comedy show at the end of the day, but I started feeling nihilistic and all that crap.
Don't know. Call me a faggot but when the responses to a thread are almost nothing but worthless one liners like the ones you can see in the screencap, I have a hard time understanding why it isn't being deleted. There's less actual debate in here than in GochiUsa threads.
>Seething because he uses VLC
Guess we should just delete Yea Forums then.
1997 Dr.Slump, since its being rerun on my country.
I use mpv because it's vastly superior to its subhuman alternatives, but thank you very much. Now go ahead and post another photoshopped screenshot and title it "MadVR".
Debate what, this is an imageboard sonny.
? The MadVR guy was a retarded k-on poster lmao, you sound like the faggots at /shmupg/ who also have no idea how to use this site

Don't take the bait, there is a very emotionally unstable user who comes here to try to stir shit up constantly. Just ignore him.
You're right actually, it never occured to me since the drawings are so clean. - I guess they processed it digitally afterwards. My bad.

I first saw aika in the early 2000's when I was in like 6th grade. It was on vhs from a hole in the wall "Movies n' You" rental place in a small section labeled "Japanimation"
My mom thought I was getting DBZ or something, and I was able to get away with it because the video cases they let you barrow were transparent.
I had the house to myself the next day, and I must have masturbated a least a dozen times throughout the day.
It was better than porn, I wish I could go back.
I'll agree it's a slow start, but after ep. 16 it really stands up to modern standards.
There still isn't anything better than VLC for streaming from your personal ftp server and reading currently downloading files though.
Because Minmay is one of the most famous anime characters and your 90s meme opinion doesn't hold water.
>Replying to someone who thinks all anime looks the same
I know that feeling. Try one episode per week.
>let's check out this piece of animatio-
ho
The 2970s were a wild time.
Seconding the suggestion for one episode per week.
Monster/villain of the week format shows create fatigue through repetition very easily. If you're getting distracted by seasonal shows it's to be expected. Set the show into the weekly schedule, maybe with dinner or something. The basic structure of each episode needs to blend into your weekly rhythms and cycles and all that.
Dude. I dont know how you got through the first episode. I watched 2 and stopped then and there. It moved way too slow and the long periods of 'artistic' silence were really annoying. Im gonna have to take another stab at it, when im feeling a bit more contemplative.
You really have to be in a mood to watch it, and even then I think it's quite outdated with its themes

First time watching Yu Yu hakusho and I’m enjoying so far
Machi gan ai
I used to know a guy who loved SAO and had Kirito on his phone as wallpaper.
The coloring is masterfully done, so pleasing.
Right now? Noothing old, but I'm thinking about watching some older stuff. I do have Cardcaptor Sakura and Space Adventure Cobra on the ready.
Make sure you have the new remaster of CCS and not the old one like your pic.
Cobra was so good enjoyed every episode of the original series.
Hey Japan, how bout some new oldies?
>hold my beer
I have the DeadFish 720p version.

blue gender
It got a new remaster last year which is an absolute treat on the eyes. Like in this state it makes a serious case for being one of the prettiest anime ever. user posted mega links for it here if you don't want to torrent.
Well if you want to remember it as a good shonen then dont watch after season 2.
Thanks. Though 161 GB is pretty damn huge compared to the one I have which is like 27 GB, but I don't know if the difference in quality is worth it.
There's this which is 60GB
nyaa.si
Thanks I was only searching for the Beatrice one so I missed that. I'll see if I can get it down. Question, is the CoalGirls sub the best one out there?
Niggas I just finished Rayearth II and that shit was cool as fuck. I had to screencap every other scene because of how good they looked. Final eps also had some solid sakuga. Fuck all ya'll who told me that it was gonna be boring shit. If anything, it's a lot better than season 1 (aside from the 2 final episodes of season 1, they were the highlight).
I dunno about things like that, sorry. Beatrice-Raws uses their subs though and they're fine.
Alright thanks. Have some manga Sakura.
I was surprised how melancholic the last episode of CCS was, I thought it'd be a fun happy time to send everyone off, which we did eventually get but the atmosphere is pretty sad
Don't listen to this gay user , chapter black saga is extremely good up until the asspull climax. It has great animation, deranged and scary villains (for shonen standards anyway), some deeper ideas, cool fights and a dark atmosphere.
I know the anime has some filler and extra cards(?) but how did the handle the whole Sakura's friend is in love with her teacher and he seems to like too thing in the anime? Is it skipped or is the same as the manga or expanded?
In the anime it's treated more as a crush that girl has and the teacher doesn't want to be a dick, it's not full on pedo stuff like Wataten
That does make more sense than the manga then. I mean I get the whole CLAMP likes all kinds of "love" thing but yeah, I could go without the implication that the teacher is grooming a 10 year old?
Yeah it's not grooming or anything, it's just a schoolgirl crush sort of thing. It's CCS, nothing bad ever happens in this show
I mean wasn't the teacher even giving her/exchanging gifts and stuff in the manga? Been awhile since I read it. They also added a character in the anime that is like Syaroan's cousin or something that's not in the manga right?
Maybe, but I haven't read the manga. It's not in the anime at least. Yeah there's this shrill bitch in the anime but she's pretty cool
Are the CCS movies worth watching and does anybody know where in the series I should watch them if I do? I'll probably start with the CCS anime after I finish watching Mob Psycho 100.

Oldfags are the best.
No, they're boring garbage
What's the order for The Five Star Stories?
Good job
Thanks, user.
Yes, I even said so in the post you replied to.
Do I watch Touch or Slam Dunk? In the mood for another sports anime after I'm done with Joe.
Almost done with Cardcaptor Sakura 1998, officially one of my favorite anima now
Yeah. The pacing on that show is terrible. It drags and drags until you drop it.
Misa is shit and you are shit.
Both seasons are great and it's nothing like Sailor Moon.
*sigh*
>Chapter black is good
Sensui is a terrible antag, the whole split personalities thing is shit.
They teased rashuyuken but never went anywhere with it.
The 'you're in my demension' thing was bad.
Going from beating toguro to back to school was bad.
The first few episodes were boring.
Those territory battles were shit, except maybe the one between kurama and glasses.
"toguro was b class" was bad.
Genkai, hei and kuwabara do jackshit in this season.
Ending was terrible.
The whole thing is togashi writing more shit for money and leave a bad taste in mouth after s1 and s2
not a lorefag but from my understanding Rei becomes a deity and pulls every character into instrumentality (single consciousness sort of thing). Shinji and Asuka both reject instrumentality which is why they are seen together at the end. How did Misato and Asuka's death feel?
Been watching Slayers. Currently on the 3rd series.
Lina is best girl.
>Lina is flattest girl
I can't be the only one thinking that opening a brothel would be the logical next step?
Nah, your taste is just bad. I prefer chapter black over 90% of the dark tournament, where it is just a bunch of well animated but otherwise boring fights (that mostly end in asspulls).
I'd possibly wait to see if the new BD's coming out are remasters or not to enhance your overall viewing experience
Rune soldier Louie
I think watching them with a cleaner look might not be as flattering to the older style animation.
That's an incredibly silly thought.
Louie's great but from 2001
You should be watching them on a CRT TV anyway.
You might like Aquarion Logos, the MC is basically Lain with a Y chromosome. He even has her hairstyle, it's weird.
>Does is get better or should I drop it?
It is without a doubt the absolute worst anime I have ever seen and the only anime worse than Infinite Ryvius.
Isn't that the one where they rape each other to power the mechs or some shit?
You're thinking Daimidaler, that's the ecchi mecha with penguins and laziness on a level that would make Skelter Heaven blush.
>Neo Ranga for me
Good man! I promise Ibuki and Akasa will not disppoint! The latter even made it with Ranga on the anime power level chart, you'll know why during the last 8 eps. Look forward!

Trying to get into Legend of the Galactic Heroes
I really enjoy cel animated anime, and so far the show is living up to it's reputation, but the amount of episodes is overwhelming so I might not continue with it for now.
Take your time and watch oneat a day, maybe after work or classes or something. You will go through them in a breeze.
I remember I got sick for a week when I jumped into it, so I watched eighty of them in five days between fevers.
Good times.
Is there a website that compiles all the references found in Urusei Yatsura? I can't spot them all and there are too many anyway.

Geez, what the hell you guys. Key was nice.
Well, it was my first 'deep' anime so I might be biased, but still.

I will now proceed to post some lovely art from Key.
Speaking of which, this episode of UY (the one with Ataru's birthday) really was something else. It almost felt like a movie.
I hope this happens to you
There was an italian blog trying to do something like that, but AFAIR it wasn't very comprehensive
Never considered Geperuniti from Macross 7 stronger than Anti Spiral

Damn, thanks anyway. Guess I'll have to look for Japanese sites.
How different is it compared to the manga?
fyi TV series has different tone than the movies. Hope you enjoy both of them.
>have 90's weeb older sister
>get sick with nostalgia looking at this thread and remembering the shows we used to watch together
>she now only reads new shoujo manga that I've never heard of

Have you ever experienced a weeb lose their SOUL before your very eyes?
Give up the subtitles Kenny
Post art now
That’s bizarre but she was probably always in it for social reasons in the first place if that is the case, and got sucked in by a certain Tumblr community due to not having an old school web group to encourage her involvement.
>I heavily dislike is when stories try to make you care about underdeveloped characters.
it doesn't help that gunbuster just copy-pastes characters from aim for the ace without the character development.
you're fault for watching that trash.
now THIS is unnecessary blogging
What torrent is this?
>episode amount
>overwhelming
i will never understand this mindset, there's literally no race to finish anything. like who are you competing with??? just watch at your own pace.
I watched Obari’s Fatal Fury movie. The story and characters are about what you would expect from a fighting game adaptation but boy was there some gorgeous effects animation, and where human motion in anime is usually either very fluid simple art or highly detailed art with more limited motion, seeing those insanely detailed and warped skinny/buff Obari character designs moving with such fluidity all over the place in some albeit too short but really well done fight sakuga was a real treat, and lots of Mai fanservice to go around, it was way more enjoyable than it had any right to be. I liked it better than the Street Fighter movie from that year.
I know what you mean, man. But the answer is no as far as I'm aware.
Thoughts on Ghost Sweeper Mikami?
It's very good.
Nuku Nuku TV is the epitome of 90's anime for me.
>Megumi Hayashibara
>Sailor uniforms
>Robot Catgirl
>All sorts of mechas and explosions
>Class consists of every single possible anime archetype
I loved it
Two last episodes are the inner plot, TEoE, the outside.
Reminds me of Phantom Quest Corp.
Great. I wanted to watch some balls explode. Umetsu is great doing that job.
I just finished Mizuiro Jidai. It was overall pretty cute and made me really nostalgic for a lot of things, but in a good, relaxing way.
Anyone know where I can get the OSTs? There's a comprehensive flac torrent in Nyaa but it's dead and it's been dead for a while apparently.
you gonna watch gunsmith cats now?
Please, don't use that "aesthetic" thread for further discussion. Make another, non-retarded OP, thread.
Very fun, light hearted series, specially if you like demons and shit. I like it almost as much as YYH.
Nuku Nuku is one of my favorites from the 90s, and the 1992 OVA was one of the first anime I ever watched. I'm glad someone else likes it too!

I've finished Saint Tail and it was pretty good. The ending was less bad than my impressions from reading what people said about it, and it didn't fall apart halfway through.
That haircut though, literally by far the worst thing about the whole show. Really makes me feel bad about the show thinking about it
I want to watch more CHIBI MARUKO-CHAN and I want to watch it NOW!!!!!
Stop posting on a Taiwanese kneading forum and watch it.
Seriously. There's this vexing mind set where people who claim to be enjoying something can't seem to wait to get it over with as fast as possible. Nobody can appreciate a story in the moment to moment sense and just seem to want to rush through it for no reason.
So, which release is better for Utena. Zero or kuchikirukia ?
The problem most likely is the overabundance of options making it hard to commit to one that takes up so much time. Personally I get stressed as fuck when starting new things because backlogs feel insurmountable.
It's even worse for me because I recently came to the realization that I almost need to experience something at least twice to truly appreciate it.
933260 on nyaa.
What was I missing out on? It seemed quite run of the mill to me.
the 80 is better
what country?
>weeb girl
what did you expect with thot
I think the events in the first movie (in Hong Kong) get very short references in the main anime so you'll know when you've missed it. It's worth watching if you like seeing water, thematically and in animation. If you enjoy the "magical dreams" aspect of the series that's there too.
I honestly don't remember the second one. It had something to do with the conservation of energy or whatever.
man of fine taste
The only challenge is getting them to a professional framing shop for proper preservation. They belong in a museum.
Really? Damn.
Just started watching it, expecting it to be as good as Ojamajo Doremi (loved every second of all 214 episodes), but I'm only at episode 7 and it's already formulaic and repetitive as hell. Better drop it if it only gets worse.
For shame, I was looking forward to Ikuhara's early style.
Ikuhara doesn't fully direct SM until like R though.
people will get angry at this post, but just use a guide to skip the filler episodes, I found SM filler to be absolutely terrible minus a small few.
ashita no joe
Oh you mean there's another company putting out bluray releases of Akira in the North American market?
>skipping the filler
my autism forbids that
It's just anime, pal. You need to relax.
I still listen to the OP every once in a while. Too bad the anime became shit pretty fast.
Get fucked. The Sailor Moon "filler" is what made the show. That's where a lot of fans became fans because we got to the explore the other girls personalities more other than them all being constantly useless to make the MC look like less of a shit.
The second movie (Sealed Card) is a must-see classic, but you have to watch it only after finishing the anime series.
I did my part some time ago...
best 80s comedy
Outlaw Star, the show Cowboy Bebop and Trigun wish they were
It's not anime, it's time. Something you have a limited amount of and can't possibly use on everything you want to.
Alright. I think I have the first movie on DVD actually. I found it many many years back for like 2 dollars.

Just finished the first episode
So did the red-pompadour guy just evaporate or swim to America or what
It truly is beautiful
>Go watch anything else. Even Blue Gender, for all that I care.
I actually did that a few months back. Dropped Ryuvis at around episode 13 because it was insanely boring, and also had lots of episodes with bad animation then suddenly 2-4minutes of good animation with space shit happening. But those scenes were too far apart, felt like it had a major budget issue.
Went on to watch Blue Gender a few weeks later. I remember it being mediocre until they went to space... then it went to complete shit.
Have sex.
tfw hand drawn and colored anime is super fucking expensive and the only reason the 80s and 90s stuff looks so good is because the economy was exploding and money was pouring from the sky.
But that's not Hikaru how could you make this mistake?
youtube.com
I got into Blue Gender because I saw the Opening and it got me hyped as shit.
Never.
Again.
How do you go from this...
were OVA more common in the past, or is my perception skewed by my large backlog
anime in general were less common, you can easily google a graph for the amount of anime produced per season now vs the past.
Market is saturated as fuck, Quality vs Quantity etc.
back then it was often more than 26 episodes
but MPV allows you to easy crop and has audio and webm scripts when you can create clips easily and even capture RAW footage
I'm watching it for the first time and am currently at City Hunter 2. Such a wholesome show, it puts me in a pretty good mood.
If you ever feel like comparing the number of anime series over the decades, just look at what comes out in a single year.

I want to put it on the official permanent record that 1979 was a good year.
OVAS still get produced, quite a few actually, but these days are usually cheap bonus's thrown into a manga release or a special additive to a BD. The age of OVAS as their own unique product that calls in high powered creators and outnumbering TV anime is nearly dead. Between 87-89 only about a third of anime was airing on TV and OVAs were way more common than TV anime was, especially once you factor out little kids shows. It was a big deal in the mid 80s to mid 90s because of the introduction of home video to Japan in the mid 80s, this gave creators a chance to make stuff directly for otaku, who had become a notable sub culture due to the popularity of shows like Yamato and Gundam in the very early 80s. Or they would even try to go further into more niche territory, because the sky was the limit of animated home video. Buying all your anime on home video in the 80s and early 90s was incredibly expensive though, the equipment itself was absurdly expensive too. It was only really possible due to Japan's economy at the time booming. In the mid 90s they had the benefit of markets really opening up in the West which made ovas still profitable despite the economic downturn in Japan that had started up. But once otaku centered material started inching its way on to TV due to early attempts like Blue Seed and big hits like Eva paving the way eventually it just made more sense to take your OVA idea and make it into some 12 episode series that aired at 2am, you were guaranteed ad revenue at the very least, not selling enough tapes was less of a worry. It especially makes no sense now sense so many people just want to download and stream anyways.
Whoa, thanks a fuckton, user.
OVAs were definitely more common then, but that's only because of the situation of the medium at the time.
Prior to 1995, with exceptions, OVA was where most of the anime made for adults and otaku went, while most TV anime was made for children or families.
The late 90s and onward saw a massive decline in the quantity of OVAs because TV anime aimed towards otaku and older audiences became more common.
Momoko Sakura died. Feels a bit like Maruko herself has gone.
