I dunno, I thought that was actually one of the less cringy things he's done. Specifically because it was her who asked him to do it and she appreciated him for it afterwards.
Of course the series is terribly written melodrama, so all the other characters have to act like HE'S the one in the wrong for taking that bullet for a guy he doesn't even like.
