That show was incredible.

Their best works are holy grail, life of Brian, meaning of life, and some of their skits, but like a lot of sketch comedy it's hit or miss.
I'd start with holy grail, but if you don't like "random" humor id just skip monty python altogether

All the three movies are very good, but also very different from one another, and as a whole show the group at their best.
That said, the original series is good too, but as others have said, not everything can be top notch. Some of their sketches are gut-busters, and others practically filler. The style of humour is absurdist most of the time, so I'd recommend you sample some popular sketches from Youtube or something and see if you like it or not.
If it doesn't click from a few of them just leave it be, but do still watch Life of Brian because there they did something completely different.

Yes and no. It's featured in Meaning of Life, and Meaning of Life references it in MP fashion, but it's practically just a short film by Gilliam which got exposure by being part of the Monty Python feature film. It works on its own without being attached to the rest of the movie.

The TV series has the additional problem of occasionally referencing things from the time, which are now over 50 years old and no-one has any reason to know now like the Ronan Point disaster.
Comparatively I don't recall any part of the films that will have aged like that.
