American TV shows aren't good enough to command 100% of your attention, plus commercials get people into the habit of thinking that TV shows are things you turn on and have going "in the background."

I tend to skip parts that I can already predict entirely. It's why I've skipped watching anime for two years now and it's why I'm going to skip reading any replies I'm going to get.

As soon as you understnad the language there's virtually no reason to not shitpost while watching. 90% of all shows have no noteworthy subtext, meaning you won't miss anything by not looking at the character's mouths. And there's maybe 15% that look interesting enough to pay attentiont to the visuals, so let's say 80%, assuming some overlap between visuals and cinematic language, are merely colored books.

I watch trash fanservice shows like this. Also what look like 5/10 seasonals. If they suck I drop them, if they are still 5/10 I will play them in the background.
