Why haven't you watched Mobile Suit Gundam yet user?
Why haven't you watched Mobile Suit Gundam yet user?
But I have.
Don't know.
Why aren't you buying the 40th anniversary MS Gundam T-shirts at Uniqlo tomorrow?
thanks for reminding me
Too busy watching the Superior Zeta Gundam
I like the Zeta OP/ED, so I downloaded the whole thing off AB, then I start up the first epsiode and find out that it's a direct continuation of the 0079 series. I thought they were all standalone wtf
Anyway I don't feel like making that big an investment so fuck it, I think i deleted it by now.
I started it, watched two episodes, got bored, dropped it. Might try the compilation movies sometime and see if they're more tolerable.
It's a teen drama with giant robot fights, how can anybody actually like this shit?
I've watched every UC Gundam except Thunderbolt and now Narrative. Will probably watch the Hathaway's Flash movies when they come out though.
How do you watch anime if you refuse to watch anything where the main characters are teenagers?
Watched the compilation movies and loved those.
So OP's right and you haven't watched Mobile Suit Gundam.
Yes I have. The movies are canon to the rest of the series (CCA used movie version of Lala's death in the flashback).
You should have started with the movies desu, they're superior in any possible way
The movies are not the same experience as the TV series. You skipped more than half the content. Literally speedwatching, just encouraged by Sunrise's jewery.
Don't listen to this user. The movies are complete trash with a handful of decent ideas, but they're not worth watching for those couple of scenes.
Already did and now on Zeta.
Doan's Island was one of the better episodes of the series.
We missed the window to have it redrawn in kino late 90s animation. Now it'd just be CGI shit.
shame
We got Turn A in that era though, which is good enough for me. Remakes almost always suck.
I did. It was very outdated. But still worth the watch I guess.
I never decide if watching movie or TV, and have issues with watching 40+ episodes show
If you're not going to watch the series don't bother. The movies are trash and the people in here who watched and somehow managed to enjoy them wasted their time when they could have used that time to watch quite a few episodes of the series.
>Tominotrash
Anyone who praises this hack has shit taste
>The movies are not the same experience as the TV series. You skipped more than half the content. Literally speedwatching, just encouraged by Sunrise's jewery.
The tv show is not canon with the rest of the UC timeline. There are stupid things in it that just don't fit with the later series (and are never brought up) and CCA redrew Lalah's death using the movie version of the events as a source).
I'd be interested in what kinds of things you're talking about that make it not canon but even if that's true the movies are really poorly put together and cut out nearly all of the character development, making it seem like you're watching a highlight reel, which you are. It's the same feeling as watching F91 where it just jumps around haphazardly without having enough content in between to make it flow. You're free to watch trash but don't recommend it to other people who are actually interested in watching the series.
I halfway watched 78 but I can't finish it. Are there episodes I can skip? I'm losing interest pretty fast.
Opening is still pretty great.
>Tomino felt that some things could be changed for the better. Tomino removed several aspects of the show which he felt were still too super robot-esque for the real robot series he intended Gundam to be, such as the Gundam Hammer weapon. The G-Armor upgrade parts were also completely removed and replaced in the narrative by the more realistic Core Booster support fighters.
You are wrong. The movies did give enough to care about the characters, since they are not the most complex characters in the medium (And the ones who are important in the long run get pretty much all of the screen time they need to be memorable). That and your f91 comparison is bad since that was just one movie, giving it a harder time to fit everything into its runtime. Meanwhile 0079 movies are a trilogy that uses it's runtime well by focusing on the big and important events and cutting out filler.
I think you mean ZZ Gundam
There is no filler in 0079. Anyone that says otherwise is an idiot. Filler in general is an overused term that's meaning has been more generalized by people that don't want to actually watch TV series and are like this guy whose attention span has been ruined by 13 episode series. I see you just quoted the Wikipedia article. None of those changes to how the Gundam functions impacts later entries at all. Much less to the extent that one should think it's okay to cut out 11 hours worth of content. Gundam didn't even last as long as it was originally going to and they already had to condense things to fit into the 43 episodes they got.
I do think the removal of some of the super robot aspects that survived into 0079 is a good thing but they're still not worth watching the movies for. From what I understand F91 had 13 full episodes worth of content before they were told they were making a movie instead. The content removed is then around the same amount. And in both cases the movie(s) feel like some schizophrenic romp through the highlights of something larger with not enough time spent on anything for anyone to get a taste for what's actually happening. The difference is there's no alternative to the F91 movie whereas there is for the 0079 movies.
>F91 had 13 full episodes worth of content before they were told they were making a movie instead.
goddamn, this still hurts. A whole F91 series that could have even led into a Crossbone OVA/Movie
>too old
>stilted animation
>lack of cute girls
Because I wanted to watch Space Runaway Ideon first.
Also THIS FUCKING BITCH
Always stirring up shit among the crew, but goddamn I can't stop watching those hips.
Best Solo girl right there.
Boring
busy with urusei yatsura
then maison ikkoku
>whose attention span has been ruined by 13 episode series.
I have watched all of UC and Turn-A and I still think most of those shows should have been 25 episodes instead of 50. They just drag way too much to fill the quota. Same stories told in half that time would hit much harder and work much better.
I’m working on it, Dad! Stop bugging me about that.
This
Zeta is the best.
>>lack of cute girls
This is why Zeta is better.
Delete this. Kamiyu is a man.
no
Pretentious faggot
Tell me about Jewdough.
Why does he wear the toga?
Why does Haman look like she lost her virginity a minute ago?
Something like 45 would probably be ideal, though the fight choreography is usually good enough that I am fine when the plot slows down and we just focus on bits of characterization and mecha battles for a few episodes . I far prefer it over most 26 episode shows most of the time. Tomino shows especially are way too dense with all the different character arcs, sub plots and diverse thematic stuff going on to work in 26 episodes. He pulled off the 26 episode show once with Brain Powerd and that was because he went 100% with dumping out direct exposition, which people already complained about in his slightly more hand holdy shows.
Actually a fact. Did Tomino cut it because he thought the plot was shit, or because it had some bad animations?
Because she probably did
i have a 100+ line list of stuff i want to watch and i havent made any progress on any of it. what the fuck IS wrong with me???
debatable
Nothings wrong with you. You don’t need to watch any of it. If you actually wanted to watch them you’d watch them. Backlogs are dumb.
Because it looks like trash
Gundam is a show that if someone hasn't seen it I can't take any of their opinions on anime seriously. It doesn't even matter what their opinion on it is but it was such a watershed moment in anime history that everyone with even a passing interest in anime has to see it
I have. I'm trying to go through classics but Gundam just didn't appeal to me. Are any of the Gundam spinoffs or sequels any better?
Rosamia is best Zeta girl.
A shame really that Four get more attention.
Because there's like 50 different gundam series or some shit and I have no idea where to start and what order I should watch them in
How do I gundam Yea Forums pls halp
I had big issues with 0079 and it took me a year after that to watch Zeta, but I liked Zeta enough to give the rest of the series a shot.
>Are you a zoomer whose Adderall prescription just ran out?
Watch Unicorn OVAs or Thunderbolt S1.
>Are you a 30 year-old boomer who thinks space magic teenagers are the big gay?
Watch 08th MS Team or Stardust Memory
>Are you such an oldfag you sent VHS tapes away in the mail to be fansubbed?
Watch 0079, Zeta or ZZ
I already did, it was ok.
It doesn't feel groundbreaking when you've watched its imitators beforehand.
Here's the order for uc
>0079
>One Year War Side Stories (Igloo, 8th ms, 0080, and Thunderbolt)
>Zeta
>Stardust Memories
>ZZ
>Char's Counterattack
>Unicorn
>Twilight Axis
>Narrative
>F91
>Victory
Origin you can watch after 79 but its non cannon.
Depends who you ask, but 0080 is probably the most acclaimed in the western anime community, and its a 6 episode ova at that so not a big time sink. 08th Ms Team works fine as well for beginners. As far as alternate universe stuff, G Gundam is phenomenal if you can get past the filler and inherent goofyness.
0080 is barely even Gundam though. It a lot of ways it's the opposite of what most Gundam entries are about.
It's basically just watching a sociopath ruin his liofe.
not him but i'm a über-zoomer with literal ADHD but i'm thinking about starting with 0079 and i think i've watched a gundam OVA before at a friends house, not sure which one but i liked it.
I just bought my first Gunpla, as I just finished 0079-CCA and thought that it was all pretty cool.
Don't start with 0079 unless it's the movies.
Even for non ADHDers parts of it will drag and it will start to feel like a waste of time.
If you don't like dated looking shit, start with the Unicorn OVAs.
If you want non-soulless intricate as fuck 90s animation start with 0083.
If you don't mind tropey characters who look like they belong in the cast of the original Pokemon, start with 08th MS Team.
Because they look pretty bad.
Because it's old and infinite.
They do.
The only one I might cop is the Z'Gok pocket tee.
Everything else looked really low-effort and just ugly.
But that's not an anime.
Original Gundam, Zeta, ZZ, CCA and then Unicorn. Watch the movies if you can't go through all of them.
If they are too old for you then just watch SEED. SEED story is almost a carbon copy of the original gundam. It follows the tried and tested gundam formula of gundam hijack, civilian piloting the gundam to stop the hijack and then being the only ace pilot piloting the gundam in a prototype carrier running away from the baddies.
My God, he's actually retarded.
But it says so in the OP, why would it lie to me?
anime ja nai
anime ja nai
>too old
just get off Yea Forums already
I watched all of it but I intensely hated almost every moment of it.
Why is the writing so bad in these shows
00 is all you need.
Both seasons, or just the first?
Four is at leas high functioning
>Rosamia is best Zeta girl
Do you window shop at the psychiatric ward
>start with the Unicorn OVAs
Good bait.
She was the best girl when she was on the Argama when she wasn't brainwash into a cybernewtype.
Because zeta is superior
delete this
i really really really hate this image.
because it was pointless and Amuro was legit retarded as hell in that episode.
Does watching Gundam Abridged count?
Anyone that hasn't seen 0079 is a fake anime fan
I watched it when I was 10
