No. El Hermano really did ruin the manga. Say what you will about Azami, Central, Erina's drama, etc., but neither of these ruined Soma. The Central Arc may have been silly, but Shokugeki no Soma still remained interesting in spite of it. Azami was an enjoyable villain, and the traitorous members of the Elite Ten didn't feel like annoying obstacles, but actual characters who had their own reasons and motivations to side with Azami. Soma wasn't invincible as he was still outclassed by Tsukasa Eishi. The Elite Ten members actually were genuinely tough opponents, Azami's character & motivations were contextualized, the RdC was exciting, and you were sold on the end over how they one thanks to Jou's training and Erina's planning. The end of RdC has a satisfying conclusion and despite the headscratcher over Erina becoming the new headmaster, the manga shows potential for an exciting future.

That is until El Hermano arrives and ruins everything...

You see, aside from being the leader of the Noirs, the most ridiculous cardboard cutout bad guys I've ever seen in a shonen manga, El Hermano himself is the most obnoxiously annoying Gary Stu of a villain we've seen in a long time. As I pointed out in pic related, him beating Jouichirou ruined the manga because it took a massive shit not only on Jou's character, but Soma's character and character progression as well. Jou has always been the Tom Bombadil of Soma, the most legendary cook, whom Soma was supposed to face off with and finally beat in the end as a rite of passage as the world's best chef and thus complete his character and his hero's journey. Then El Hermano comes out of fucking nowhere and Jou jobs to him off screen without us even seeing the Shokugeki go down. It makes El Hermano a Gary Stu villain and an annoying obstacle for Soma to overcome which will lead to a lackluster and disappointing ending.

And THAT'S WHY El Hermano killed Shokugeki no Soma.
