And that's it fellas. Looks like Angel was able to fight against NESTS mind control until Team Ikari took care of the device, but she ended up using all the strength she had left to save the kids which left her unable to keep fighting.

I'm surprisingly okay with this, though it's not what I was expecting for sure.

Feels a bit anticlimatic in regards to the fight but at the same time it's a good payoff for the development Angel has had in these past few chapters.

It's an ending to make happy the fans of both girls. Redemption and moral victory for Angel over nest and Leona controls her orochi power to save the situation and at the same time shows the value of her words to Shunei.

How? I think these past few chapters made clear that her development wasn't attached to the outcome of the fight.

No, it wasn't attached to the victory, but another match where she fully embraces her role as luchadora would be a good payoff to her previous dismissal of the kids' attention.

Mexico still has stakes in moving on in the tournament, since King of Dinosaurs has beef with Nelson from Team South America.

She already got her payoff user, she saved the kids lifes in front of the world and the kids were happy to see that.

So the chapters basically goes like this: The NEST minions mention that Angel's power level it's decreasing as the fight progresses while Leona keeps getting stronger. The dude who seems to be the leader of the minions mentions that Leona seems to be gaining more strenght by absorbing Angel's energy through her blood.

The NESTS dude monitoring the power levels says that Angel strenght is plummeting but the other guy tells him not to worry, that the priority is to draw more power from Leona and that Angel is disposable (Angel hear this).

So when the big junk of the ship is about to kill the mexican kids, she goes to save them and calls out the NEST minions by telling them she heard them and asking them "who's disposable?"

Then Ralph and Clark find the bug, Leona destroys her and declares the "Emergency Mission complete" Angel saves the kids and embraces the" Angel of Justice" monicker then passes out.

Leona goes back to normal and asks hersefl something among the lines of "I wonder if I won" or "I wonder if this was my victory after all".

In KOF 98 umol and KOF ALL STAR Leona and Orochi Leona recover HP when they damage the opponent. Probably the author wanted to implement these techniques during this fight taking advantage of Angel's bleeding.

There's been no prior instance of Orochi Leona ~draining~ other people's power. Granted, Heidern himself does it with the Stormbringer, but that's technology doing that for him.

+ Both fighters looked amazing, both aesthetically and in combat
+ Back and forth made both fighters look strong and accentuated their skills
+ Stakes were raised as the fight went on
+ Full realization of Angel's character arc
+ Big payoff moments for both fighters (awakened Orochi Leona, Angel's character victory)
- Wasn't a true contest due to outside interference (though it played directly into the aforementioned character arc)
- Fight conclusion was pretty much guaranteed when the NESTS interference started
- Fight was a raw slugfest at times, which doesn't fully play to the characters' stregnths

Leona and Orochi Leona recover HP when they damage the opponent. In her normal mode is thanks to her DM Grateful Dead which is a stormbringer variant. This is just states than in her Riot of The Blood form she does this by using her Orochi blood abilities instead of using Heidern's thecnology.

Mizuki looks fine to me. Her design got better as Murata kept drawing her compared to when she debuted. But Leona is on a league of her own.

Oh, if you mean character depiction and portrayal then yes, you may be onto something. But I still think Mizuki's design (just talking purely about her desing) looks great.

But you can get tired of it once the character doesn't give you more than that. In that regard I've loved every second of Leona in this manga.

Although, to be fair, Mizuki being a comic relief / fanservice character seems to have been the intention of both One and Murata from the start, whereas Leona is a regular character with significant relevance to KOF:ANB's plot. She just happens to be hot af.

Leona saluting Chang was a bug in '98 that played her special Ikari intro when it wasn't supposed to. SNK just ran with it, and it's been a running joke ever since. In-universe, Leona says she salutes Chang because she respects his strength.
