Hibike overall is KyoAni love song to Yamakan. When working in KyoAni he wrote a novel about wind orchestra that was planned to be adapted into anime, but after leaving, KyoAni had to find another similar novel to replace it and go on with project i.e. Hibike.
Meanwhile Yamakan still plans to eventually adapt it (between threatening to quit anime and bankrupcys), the Twillight anime is step towards that
