It's possible that they really are all the way into animating the second cour already, or potentially they planned for the first cour to go up that far but changed to slow things down when they figured out how much slack they had. Whatever the case, there is absolutely no reasonable schedule that would fit first mission to spider in 7 or 8 eps, that's disgustingly rushed schedule tier, absolutely never what you would do if you had time, much less if you consider it a slow paced adaptation like Tanjirou's VA said

It's not precisely because they dedicated a whole year working on this and even refused to accept other works. Long-running anime usually has fewer resources, a shorter schedule and they air in day time. Also Nakano (Jump's EiC) confirmed in a interview that it's no longer suitable for most Jump anime to keep running for too long.

Would be cool if they pulled a Brotherhood and wrapped anime at the same time as the manga. But I agree that long-running anime is unlikely.

I chose BC as a point of comparison because they are published in the same magazine, has the same genre (battle shounen), and began serialization within one year of each other. Not really. There aren't many important things prior to the drum arc. Like really, there's STUFF, but most of it doesn't really add or matter.

I mean WT is, IMO, a better series and had a shitty adaptation, but more importantly it had a fuckton of episodes and filler to really milk kids' money. It's not about hotblooded rivalries or anything. It's also weird. It's horror/comedy/adventure. It feels older than most current shounen manga as well.

First mission isn't that big of a deal, but it's the first time the siblings fight together, so it's significant. The end also establishes how Muzan has power over all his demons even remotely, to be able to kill them on his whim. Asakusa is a big deal and enough stuff happens there with Muzan and Tamayo that even two episodes for it would be cutting it close
