Don't get me wrong this episode was kino and actually made me like the ending of the arc more but Pudding's sudden face-turn is still too jarring for me to really call her a really good character. In fact it would've really made the arc come full circle, with the massive irony of a nation of love and acceptance ultimately being another hotbed for discrimination and bigotry, but outside of those two instances nothing hinted towards that actually being the case.

Oda said himself that he loves music so much and that the only downside to drawing manga is that he can't have music playing for his readers while they read it. Hell, that's why he likes Brook so much to begin with, and why he made Nekomamushi canon because Brook's voice actor made a song that he liked so much he wanted to put it in his own series.

I did want Katakuri to win, I thought this arc was a unique occasion where the villain sympathized with the MC and victory wasn't necessary for survival, and it would have been a nice subversion of the usual One Piece arc. Gotta ask for the sake of it, how many other people here like Big Mom as a character more than Katakuri? Don't get me wrong, I like him just fine, but I think Big Mom is a much more interesting and dynamic character. I love the idea that she was basically thrust into this biological position of being an absolute monster, and people either never bothered to do anything about it or they took advantage of her to their own advantage, and it snowballed into the monster that we have now. On top of that we still have thing we need to learn about her past with Kaido, which is only going to flesh her out more. When Oda said he intended for the series to center around the Yonko from the beginning you can tell. When she and Kaido reach their downfall it's going to be a pretty monumental moment, I can already feel it.

We're talking about 7 y. o. who boarded the ship within last year or even less. I didn't know Batman's backstory until I saw my first Batman movie as a kid too, and it should have way bigger "cultural osmosis" effect, I believe. Children were alive for much shorter time and had less opportunities to get exposed to stuff. You gotta give these kids some idea of why that Shanks guy is so important and what "looks like we'll be able to meet soon" means, otherwise this line would be quite confusing.

Not to mention we're a bunch of fully grown autists who dissect and nitpick every tiny detail of this series for years on end. It may sound dumb to us but there are kids out there who are getting into the show for the first time and are doing so by jumping right in rather than immediately going to the beginning and moving up from there. That's part of the reason why the editors had Oda include little blurbs about returning characters in Reverie, since it's such a significant gathering of characters the Straw Hats allied themselves with over the years.

Even people who have never seen Star Wars know the whole story.

Studio Guts have been working on One Piece since the Supernova/Sabaody arc. Them working on 877 is nothing special, they worked on this arc a lot including episodes 830 and 860.
They also only provide animation, Toei does the directing, storyboarding, compositing, and basically everything else.

The pace is too slow. The last time I watched the anime was during Fishman Island and they adapt like one chapter per episode. I hate it.

I can't get over the situation they're all left in, after everything they go through in that arc. They just leave them to one of the bloody Yonko and go on their merry way and relax the next day.

Of course it's One Piece and it's battle shonen and it could very well all work out regardless of odds because that's how it works, but in thinking about actually being in that situation, it's awful. You're leaving comrades behind to face an enormous threat you can't even handle yourself. They're tired, they're bloodied and battered, and you leave them to the wolves.

Not to mention chapters after the timeskip have been more dense with content in general which means that the anime staff has more material to work with to fill in the blanks. I'm not saying it's quick and snappy because of it but it's ignoring context for the sake of complaining. I don't treat Toei as some sort of singular entity that rubs its hands together menacingly as if they're trying to sabotage One Piece like some people seem to like to do. They're just a studio, and one that's also held to the whim of various shareholders from the network and Shueisha.

Doesn't matter as long as the source material as faithfully adapted which it was. There were many moments that were even better in the anime than they were in the manga.

I watched everything up to the Jinbe breaking Luffy out and it was the same treatment the anime has been getting most of the timeskip. The pacing was as glacial as ever. Some of their extended content was also downright bad, like with the Cracker fight and Luffy's fights with those big guys on route to Sanji.

I also saw the episode where they show the what happened to Big Mom's forces when Germa encountered them after the wedding and it was so obvious they were just desperately padding. Literal who Charlottes with a hodgepodge of random abilities in these pointless and uninspired fights with Germa getting those precious extra minutes of air time filled.

I adore the voice cast and I like to see them interact but I don't like they're used for so much fluff.

Those Germa fights were really well animated and were a cool display of some of the Charlotte's abilities. They were great.

You'd think they could compensate by attracting more people with better quality and pacing but I guess most viewers are kids who don't care

I did not have any issues with the pacing during the chase. There were always enough different things going on that made it entertaining and versatile. Its not like all we see is Big Mom chasing the Straw Hats. There is Luffy vs Katakuri, Sanji and Pudding stuff, The Sunny crew struggling to get away and much more.
