The only thing Misato really failed on was building a relationship with Asuka. We don't see much interaction between the two on screen although I would suspect that's more due to Asuka's superiority complex than a lack of effort from Misato. Keep in mind that at the point in which everyone is at there emotional lowest Misato's lover dies and leaves her the responsibility of figuring out what's behind the curtain.

No doubt it varies from country to country but most of them seem to have absolutely brilliant casting and acting, especially the older ones. I can only speak 100% for my own language (and I've seen all of them in the original) but I've also looked at a lot of language comparisons and clips in different languages and it's often downright scary how similar or appropriate they've managed to make the different language dubs sound, though there are some lame ones here and there.

Even without knowing the language you can still often pick out if someone is phoning it in, sounds miscast, forced, going outside their abilities etc.

Oh, also worth noting that it's a major reason for the fucked up ending of the original series. Do you remember the sarin gas attack in 1995? Well, supposedly it was strikingly similar to a planned or partially completed episode. Also, the group behind the attack ate motivated by anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, so there was since overlap between their beliefs and what was shown in Eva.

There's no indication the attack was in anyway motivated or influenced by Eva. However, they decided it would be in poor taste to air something similar to a real tragedy particular given the overlap between the motive for the attack and the show's themes. Scrapping the episode led to a snowball effect where the show was permanently behind schedule and running to stand still just to make it to broadcast.
