Shounen is such a trash-tier genre that suffers from how formulaic most shounen are. Sure a similar criticism could be levied at most shoujo, but at least there's some element of unpredictability in the general structure. Plus, the peaks of shoujo as a genre are higher than the peaks of shounen.
