My main problem with the movie is that it takes place so late in the series. Broly is so so so stupid powerful that it's unreasonable to believe that all of his strength comes from the fact that he's a protedgy. If you are going to have a character go head to head with Mother Fucking Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta he needs to have a damn good reason to not be obliterated in one hit. Especially considering this is post-ToP. "He was born that way" just doesn't fucking cut it.
If they had the movie take place right after Cell, it would still be a stretch, but nowhere near as much of a logical leap to believe he is naturally that strong.

Why do I say that? Because up to that point it was only achievable by fusing 5 good hearted saiyajins, goku himself said he doesn't like the form, and it was drawn to be ugly.
His SSJ1 form was written to be as strong as god because it remembered the power of a god. Get it? SSJG was supposed to be a one time only thing that was never done again.
