He did what he had to do given the circumstances. Charlotte was clearly lusting for Griffith's D so there were was nothing wrong in him fucking her. The only reason he got imprisoned was because the king was an overprotective pedo fuck. There was also nothing wrong with him going through the Eclipse since it meant his broken body would be healed and he could return to his former glory. There wasn't anything wrong either with sacrificing the members of the old Band of the Hawk since they signed up to be with Griffith of their own free will and fully knew that they could die at any moment under his command. He may have had to go through with some tough decisions, but in the the end he did nothing wrong.

This is pretty irresponsible considering how his dream was ultimately a selfless one meant to better humanity, meaning that he threw away all the potential benefit he could have reaped for others by achieving his dream. As fate would have it, he'd end up recouping an upgraded version of his dream later in a more powerful form, but there's no fucking way you're going to tell me he had accounted for that possibility ahead of time. As far as Griffith knew from the moment he had sex with the princess and for the next year afterwards, he had thrown his whole noble pursuit away because he was buttmad at Guts. He even made a miserable attempt at suicide before the behelit reappeared, which, as far as the broken Griffith's limited human perspective could tell, was a random stroke of luck. He got a cosmic do-over after doing something very distinctly wrong. Nothing that happens during or after the Eclipse changes that fact.

This is why I felt like his downfall was kind of underwhelming. I wish we'd gotten his POV or some kind of monologue between his loss of the duel and fucking Charlotte. To think that he worked so hard to accomplish his dream only for it to collapse because of a coincidental mishap (yes he wasn't fucked because he slept with the princess, he was fucked because the maid chose that very moment to intrude on the princess' privacy) I mean something as nonchalant as throwing a garment on top of the peep hole would have prevented all this.
