You should actually know purple. She already appeared in the first season as the "rival" magical girl to the main trio, and was then a regular part of the cast in the second season, which also aired in Germany.
Yellow appears in the third season, which unfortunately did not air in Germany.

As someone whos about to start watching this whole show whats the quality trajectory like on the seasons? Are they all around the same level or are some way better than others?

It depends. What type of quality? Quality animation, quality music? Season 3 is considered the most tame season when it comes to depressing episodes/season endings, but it's still a fun season with lots of great episodes. If you enjoy season 1 you'll like every other season.

Weren't the 16 books supposed to have been shit? I hope the movie isn't an adaption of those.

I read the first one and it was pretty alright, it definitely felt like watching classic Doremi episodes, there's a few chapters focused on classmates dealing with issues and stuff and some other chapters focused on advancing the plot, but the story itself was really just getting started and I haven't read the others so I wouldn't know.

I consider this the greatest single episode in all anime, ever.
But what said.

It's very consistent, quality-wise. First season sets the tone and introduces the characters, second (Sharp) is more dramatic and has a strong continuing plot line, the 3rd (Motto) is more freewheeling but has some pretty intense episodes too. Naisho (season 3.5 - don't watch this after Dokkan!) has superb OVA animation and brilliant direction, then Dokkan is like Motto again, except for the last 10 or so episodes, which are the best conclusion this series could ever have.

Sailor Moon's and Digimon's upcoming projects are getting the original character designers. It seems Toei learnt their lesson, but I doubt they'll be able to bring Ikuhara and Hosoda back.
Doremi is lucky that its anniversary project didn't happen when the staff was moving between buildings.

The new Digimon project looks awful desu

As much as I wish they had gotten SatoJun or Ikuhara back for Sailor Moon, Chikai Kon did a great job salvaging the series in season 3.
