It does go downhill after freeza but 2 mediocre to bad arcs don't really trash the entire series, it's still far better than every modern shounen series if you don't count hxh jojo and one piece as "modern".

I would erase some volumes till the end of Freezas saga, yet the rest was also good. DB has lot of rewatchable value. I tried some anime from my childhood and some of them are shit or mediocre and I don´t mind admitting it, but DB was one of the good ones despite its flaws. I could have read it for the first time as an adult an still think it´s good, like it´s happening to me with one piece.

Zoomers I know either brainlessly love Super or hate anything DB related but haven't really read anything about it, because it's and old but popular work.
I don't know what do you mean by "modern shounen" though, there is good stuff like World Trigger and a lot of shit, just like in any genre and in any time period.

Super is okay. Replace the Beerus arc and the Frieza's return arc with their movies and you realize that the problem with them was the terrible pacing, which was done much better in a movie. The only truly bad part of Super was the Zamasu arc. The movies I mentioned are good, ToP is good, Broly is amazing.

I think the majority of its fans have never read the manga in the first place, it's so much better than the anime it's not even funny.

It's isekai tier trash. The only decent thing it had beyond fights is world building and lore which has been abandoned. I don't ask for anything complicated but with it's length DB franchise has accomplished very little storytelling.

Most modern shounen try to plant philosophical themes with all the depth of a puddle in their stories(see naruto for example). DBZ doesn't bother with that shit.
