I don't get what he's hung up on. Orcs armies were a dire threat to the rest of the depicted fictional world, so of course a guilt-free extermination of said armies was in order. There were no on-screen Orc civlians depicted in the movies at all, nor was there any possible impact of the war on them until destruction of Mordor at the end of third movie, but the alliance was more than justified because otherwise Sauron would've launched a second invasion and conquered them all. I guess he could be complaining about how boring and one-dimensional the entire conflict was, in which case I fully agree.

Lord of the Rings is anything but shallow.
Good and evil are a force given shape and in that sense they're objective but you have ambiguity in the actions of characters that are affected by both the Valar and Morgoth/Sauron.
Characters like Boromir, Denethor, Feänor, Túrin, and so forth.
There is black and white but that is often the nature of epics, to show the objectivity of morals. What should be subjective is that at times, you've no good choice to make, and must take the best one possible.

It's been a while since I read or watched LotR, but I don't think there were many discrepancies in the orc killing parts.

Maybe Tolkien wanted to feel better about killing the enemy soldiers. Germans and British weren't always enemies, queen Victoria was German after all. Things would be easy if Tolkien fought in the Pacific. Japs were viewed as subhuman animals by the allies, pretty similar to the orcs, so killing them was like going hunting

The orc's status as the enemy and their role is the same in the book, with the exception you get their background that might elicit simpathy, so the shallow reduction of Tolkien's themes is the same even if he was refering to the movies.

There are no civilian orcs. Orcs are corrupted elves (tortured, mutilated or drove mad for the sole porpouse of violence) therefore there is no such thing like a good orc in LOTR mythology. Furthermore Tolkien work takes heavily from Norse mythology, specially from the sagas. The ring is from the ring of the nibelungs, the reforged sword is from Siegfried as it is Smaug and so many other elements. This is so because Tolkien was a linguist and a great part of his life work was translating these stories.

First of all, LoTR isn't even a burger story. Second, the complete story is about what every character does in the face of temptation, the orcs are a faceless enemy because they could very well be just a natural threat, and it's never implied that merely because the orcs are evil, their opponents are all good. They're full of failings. The real conflict is that if they can get over their own failings and weaknesses, both spiritual and moral, or just face their demise. The orcs aren't more than the sword of judgement, but that doesn't mean there's no bad or flawed characters among the heroes, specially since Sauron is a master tempter that constantly plays to everybody's weaknesses.

When Sauron was defeated, the orcs were all scattered. It would be interesting to know if they were all just slaughtered, since Frodo and Sam witnessed that some races of orcs were slaves of the bigger ones, and that they were all basically a slave race to the Nazgul and Sauron. It wouldn't be surprising if most orcs were to die at the hands of other orcs just to get food, but since redemption from sin is a big thing in Christianity and thematically important in Lord of the Rings, maybe some of the survivors actually managed to create a functional society. It would be an interesting problem even for Aragorn, since without Sauron's malice directing them, most orcs would probably attack humans only out of desperation instead of actively waging war.

Furthermore the narrative structure is as classic as western storytelling gets. Classical western storytelling having it´s roots on greek narrative forms and structures.
