What is everyone's favorite Conan movie? I know the original 6 movies are legendary, then the ones after that are spotty, but I like some of the recent ones like Dimensional Sniper and Amuro's new film.

conan is dead.
I've only seen up to 15 so far but I liked all of them. 4 and 5 are probably my favorites.
Favorite, as in #1? 5 or 6
But broader favorites aside from having to pick just a #1 would include 5, 6, 14, and 20 off the top of my head. All the cel era ones are great, but it is hard to find great ones after it. 15 was fine too and 19 was interesting with Kid playing a villain.
Let's hope 23 is another good one, we need a cleansing after Amuro: The Movie. Sorry OP, I just don't understand the Amuro love unless you're a girl or gay.
Oh, and we're really close to 25 movies huh? I wonder if they'll do anything grand for it.
>favorite Conan movie
I'm more interested in what everyone's least favorite is. I've heard some against the first for just being a long episode, though I wonder if those who hate the over the top action the movies started using like it for being more down to earth and plausible as in the same league as the manga's climaxes.
>I've heard some against the first for just being a long episode, though I wonder if those who hate the over the top action the movies started using like it for being more down to earth and plausible as in the same league as the manga's climaxes.
I'm in this category. I just rewatched the first movie for the first time in over 16 years, and it's still fresh and wonderful, like a high quality manga case adaptation. It has all of the sincere human elements I like about the series, and none of the grotesque antics of the recent movies. To be honest I wish they would stop making new DC movies rather than go further and further into adaptation decay.
Nothing wrong with a movie just being a long episode, as long as it's good. Forced drama and action scenes aren't really necessary for that. But I still enjoy the over-the-top action of the movies as well.
Do you feel this way about any of the other movies? 2 for instance wasn't that bizarre and only in 5 did the stunts start getting wild.
>sincere human elements I like about the series
good way of putting it
>I've heard some against the first for just being a long episode
But I thought that's why people liked the first one?
If they do like it yea, but I've read some opinions on here stating that it either is or part of the reason that they don't like it. That and the mystery was easily predictable because the old man was the only one you met.
>the old man was the only one you met.
There was also Shiratori, who was kind of weird and creepy and had an interest in architecture.
I haven't rewatched it yet, but I did also greatly enjoy #2 back then. The finale was great and the kiss between Ran and Conan was very stimulating to me at the time.
I remember liking all of the movies up to 6 and never got to see the ones after that because I fell out of Conan and anime fandom around 2003.
Yea, you're right. I'm glad he wasn't the culprit and became a series regular though.
It seems like I'm still the only one who likes 6 as its own thing. If it weren't for Hiroki I probably would be less inclined to say it was one of my favorites, because it is true that being trapped in a game is both cliche and bizarre for Conan, but all the same its a movie and not a canon manga chapter. The ending scene is just really good, with him talking to Conan. Really any time Conan has a heartfelt moment with someone/the culprit it really makes me enjoy the series more.
6 had good character development for Shinichi and his Dad, which we never got much of in the series up until that point. But the actual mystery and general setting was pretty dull.
2nd movie.
I wish they had kissed on land too. How about a Shinichi x Ran x Conan love triangle which feels a little bit like NTR but isn't really.
Just finished 21, it was great. I love Kazuha and can't wait until her and Heiji to start dating. I also can't wait until we have Shinichi come back for the first time since Ran and him started, which might be M23.
DC's characters are so good.
How did this just magically get the water out of his lungs.
The power of love
Her breath is so hot, it boiled & evaporated the water inside
Alternatively, she sucked him really hard.
>Fourteenth Target
>Lost Ship in the Sky
>Phantom on the Baker Street
>Eleventh Striker
My personal favorites.
Finally Baker Street love, and I agree with LSitS, it was fun and interesting to see Conan fight terrorists.
Translations when?
That's one of the novelizations of the live action TV series. I'm watching it now and I think it's a little better than the drama specials.
I'm more curious about the novels that were never adapted to anything such as this one.
I at least want to see the real characters in the drama scenarios, though the ones without an adaption are more interesting.
How old are these novels anyway?
You can see on detectiveconanworld.com
Damn, a lot of these are quite old. Translations never.
Why does Conan have such a hard time with translations? It's fucking huge. God I'm in the wrong timeline.
No one in the west cares enough.
I'm in the west and I care enough that it should make up for the rest of this awful place not giving a shit about Conan! I just don't fucking know Japanese.
Not just Conan, lots of long-running series have this problem, not to mention the countless series that have never been translated at all and never even heard of in the rest of the world. The Japanese publishing industry is vast and there aren't enough translators to keep up with the supply, and maybe not enough demand for it from readers in other countries either.
I'm still sad that Machiko's full anime hasn't been translated. I mean come on.
I don't like the gradual transition in the male character designs to ending up with no chins. Early and middle styles were both good, but the current one looks so neutered.
poor shinichi really got a number did on him and now hes not far off from conan
Original Shinichi had manly features that still looked appropriately adolescent. Now he looks younger and more androgynous, following the general trend in the industry of drawing male characters that way. I hope the pendulum swings back someday, because I hate the currently hip art styles.
handsome lad
Even his mannerisms are so charming.
What if DC was gender-flipped?
>girl Mitsuhiko
post it
I wish there were some girl Mitsuhiko images.
>searches 光彦 女体化 on pixiv

Kind of surprises me, I thought there'd be rule 63 of every main character for a popular series like this one.
I love DC threads.
I'm afraid I sperg out too much in these threads and annoy people.
I don't, I like to post my autistic shit.
Cute!
why is this so hilarious
He kind of looks like moot in this shot.
Something about the long pause, and then leaning forward with the big ears. I got nothing
You are just fine user.
>tfw google
The noses were still cute at this point, why'd they have to make them even longer.
Countdown to Heaven
Crossroad
Full Score of Fear
Requiem
Crimson Love Letter
Just realized that I've never seen The Darkest Nightmare and Sunflower of Inferno.
Why does this look like some SNES RPG party?
Easily the Dimensional Sniper movie, Skycraper comes after that.
That's basically original Conan
That made me laugh.
Poor Sonoko. Or is Conan just that confident in his waifu's beauty.
>Serena
Who?
Are there good scans with the original names? The other set I saw were poorly translated.
I only read that shit from mangareader.net. It's okay.
This one may use the original names, but the translation isn't that good. The translator missed the tone of derision that Conan used toward Sonoko and the idea of someone actually wanting to pick her up (which is why this scene became a minor meme on the Japanese internet).
Mitsuhiko is such a lucky boy.
He's hardly ever at home with her. I wish she'd join a case but then it'd be too similar to when their teacher does it.
Real men have chins
I wonder what font this is.
What if Mitsuhiko is Karasuma?
I only like the first 5.
Looks like Batman TAS font
remember the cozy aesthetics?
Sera is an overrated smelly boy
Looks like the beginning of Castlevania to me.
Are you the real smelly user?
Yes.
why'd she have to die, dudes
When did the anime start getting more strict with fanservice?
What a weird song.
Has anyone actually SEEN all the episodes, movies, OVAs, and read every chapter?
Seen every movie but Amuro's, and almost all eps and OVAs. I'm going to go back and read the manga after I catch up but I have read through some of the beginning already.
I wanna own the manga but not sure about buying Case Closed's name changes version. You don't have a lot of options for Conan over here and I already got out of school without learning another language, I'm not going to start now.
It's kinda weird how the entire nation of Japan runs on cutesy stuff.
Ran is so cute
They need it to survive their dreary workaday lives.
soon
Ginichi and Van OVA when? I want Ranka and Shin
How come they never released it?
Considering they had the license for the rest of Season 5 (what would be released as Season 6) and Season 5 of CC sold really well your guess is as good as mine. I just assume they didn't want to deal with the IP anymore seeing as how many issues there were. I'm just disappointed they were set to go on the Ai special and then just didn't bother. I wanted it in English so I could watch it with people who can't do subtitles and because I like the main cast english VAs. I wouldn't be surprised if Season 5 sold so well because people thought they were getting the entire season instead of a part 1 that cuts off right before the stuff you'd want the season for.
I'm still surprised they did 6 movies. Too bad they didn't take up the offer to do the movie franchise at least, but no they had to be faggots and start bitching at fans wanting it to come back. Why do that? "Take my money" "Jesus christ no".
America doesn't deserve Conan anyway. At least Germany got their dub back, good for them.
>but no they had to be faggots and start bitching at fans wanting it to come back. Why do that? "Take my money" "Jesus christ no".
Funi genuinely hated DC huh. I really don't understand why. Maybe like other Americans they were prejudiced against it because they thought it was a kiddy show.
Do you know if the manga sells well in the US? I'm reading the Viz edition now and it seems much better than the scanlations I've seen floating around on the internet before, name changes aside.
Japan doesn't seem that dreary. I mean aside from natural disasters.
Their working culture is very stressful with long hours, mandatory socializing after hours, and abusive bosses.
I follow a lot of Japanese fanartists on Twitter and they complain constantly about their working conditions. The work/life balance sounds a lot worse than where I live in the US.
>What is everyone's favorite Conan movie?
The ones with "over the top" stories and their styles of humor have been my favorites. Typically, those are the ones where Kaitou Kid or Lupin show up.
Thry didn't make it obvious if they were joking or not like they usually do so I wonder if they'll actually do this. They gave a release year so it'd be weird if they just let it pass for viewers to draw their own conclusions about it being a gag.
>Japan doesn't seem that dreary
It would be if you are used to a profligate lifestyle of consuming goods and services that require a lot of natural resources.
And Gosho used to sleep only 3 hours a night until it wrecked his health and he had to go on hiatus.
Kazuha is best girl.
I love her.
yes, check mangadex, I think it was dctp's or kornscans'.
seen all canon eps, fillers up to 500s, movies, ovas, read every chapter here.
>favorite Conan movie

I don't like 4,11,16,19,20
Kazuhot
>ribbon+kansai ben+very cute personality
heiji is one of a hell lucky guy
also momiji, I like her too
Fuck now I miss Old Shinichi. Whenever I see him on screen right now he just looks like a normal kid smarter than average. Back then he had a shitload of charisma and everybody shut the fuck up everytime he appeared out of nowhere.
Do you guys think it would've been better had Shinichi and Shiho shrunked at like 12 instead of 6/7
OG Shinichi had swagger and a raw sexual magnetism to him. Girls' panties got sopping wet and even men crushed on him when he entered the room. He was unique among teenage boy shounen protags for this quality.
But something happened in the 2010s and it's like he got neutered somehow. He just doesn't have "it" anymore.
I prefer him very young. He already feels 12 with the current style.
That episode was the most handsome he's ever been.
Yeah but there would have been better things to do with growing hormones and stuff not just for main cast but also the Detective Boys. Instead of just having them hang around and seeing murders every day and never being shocked by it
On ep 787, I finally reached this pic's episode.
I'm close to it.
ILL FOCUS HARD TO UNTANGLE THIS MYSTERY AAaaAAaa
KNOWING YOU DONT SUSPECT A THING
I'm not sure if they hated it or not. I think they were just annoyed with all the shit they had to do with it and it was just seen as a hassle to use the IP. They at least cared enough to put the Detective Conan name on the DVD sets somewhere. I was just watching a dub episode and came across another scene where they have someone say detective conan too. At the end of the Mountain Fox 2 parter.
As for the manga I do believe it sells well. It's been on a few bestsellers lists in the past. I can't remember how recent they were though. I'd have to find the links again later.
cute!
The scene where Conan is between Yuliko's breasts is still one of the best scenes.
>They at least cared enough to put the Detective Conan name on the DVD sets somewhere. I was just watching a dub episode and came across another scene where they have someone say detective conan too.
Maybe there were some employees working on it who were actual fans of the series and cared about the product. Just not so much the higher ups.
>It's been on a few bestsellers lists in the past.
That's good, the manga deserves it. I've read several volumes of the Viz edition now and I'm impressed with it. DC is really hard to translate, I know that from experience. But I think their slangy style of localization suits the series because of how much influence DC already has from American mysteries and cop shows. I'm glad they didn't go with a more literal style like Yen Press tends to take, for example; that would kill some of the charm.
what did sera's bad kid line mean
She awakened to her shotacon
4=1=13>2=14=20>3=15=19=12>5=10=16>8=9>22=6=7
I really like the music one where they sing in duet. Main girl was perfect with conan and I want to see her again in the manga.
DONT DO IT SHINICHI
>Yuliko
Shinichi's defiled now, he can't be a bride
Do you think she's the rough or passionate kind in bed? I want to find out.
She's super rough.
I love this episode.
>remaster n e v e r
Accidental response but while I'm at it, jesus christ what is it with the glares from Conan girls being so hot? Other shows' girls dont usually do it for me when they glare.
I'm only just now noticing this frame.
5 over the top action and black organization first appearance in the movie
7 the first one I watch and OST is GOAT
9 the first and the only one I watch in theater what a great experienced, good murderer twist and Mori is great in this one, another GOAT OST too bad the singer died not long after the movie release she had cancer and fell off from the high floor
>9 the first and the only one I watch in theater
Japanese?
Thailand, there always limited release of anime movies
Well I'm glad for you. Here in America we get anime movies in theaters, some wide and some limited, but Conan has never aired in a theater over here and I'll never get a chance to see it. It'd be subbed of course but I wouldn't mind.
Back in the 90s-00s, the closest we would get to that in America was if you had a local anime club with access to a theater. In my hometown in California the clubs at the two major universities would sometimes use large lecture halls or the campus theater to show fansubbed movies or TV series (without official permission).
Unfortunately, DC was just never popular enough where I lived, even among the niche of anime fans, and never got played at the local clubs.
Nice. Shame Conan has always been off the radar here.
Name 5 bad conan episodes. Hardmode: canon only.
I can't name one but the devilish cycle was really weirdly paced even for filler
hey, where do i start with this series
the beginning
That one where Chiba gets skinny then fat again
Why does Ran still suspect Conan to be Shinichi? She got proven wrong like six times or something.
Still too many coincidences and its not like Conan made a strong effort to look different from Shinichi. Remove the glasses and his cover is blown. She even deduced that when he and Conan appeared at the same time that a trick must have been used.
What cute and lovable kids. Except Genta.
Too bad Genta has to exist. Maybe he's proof that Gosho didn't plan on DC running for as long as it has. I mean, why would you waste a recurring character spot on a walking fat joke like that.
Any team has that one incompetent guy. Actually, Mitsuhiko is the only competent Detective Boy, considering his age.
Mitsuhiko is worthwhile because he's competent, Ayumi because she's cute. Genta offers nothing. The one incompetent guy should at least be likeable.
hmmmmmmmmm
6
But we're all spergs here. Look where you're at.
I enjoyed this arc.
I dunno, feels like Yea Forums has gotten a lot more "normal" the past few years.
DC seems to attract a lot of autistic fans in my experience. Though I'm not sure if it's a greater proportional difference or if it's just a consequence of the fanbase being very large worldwide and attracting all sorts of people.
Reminder that it's not gay if it's Shinichi.
