During that half episode, I've already seen what I need to see to know this is a shitty show. Having a monologue to explain every single action the main characters take is a huge red flag.

Anime is not manga. You can do stuff to cut out the retarded monologues. Good directing should show you, not tell you.

Because in their case, the exact thinking pattern of the characters has to be made clear. This isn't a grand story that's being recited to you, this is about two teenagers overthinking everything to a ridiculous degree. You can't do "visual storystelling" for something like this. You think general storytelling techniques can just be applied one to one when you're simply failing to digest a formula you're not used to.

The manga is the same, and a lot of the jokes don't work without narration. It's a fun series, but if you don't like it, drop it.

Do you know why? Because so far, he hasn't. This manga isn't flawless, by far not, but it certainly has never disappointed me in three years of reading it. The problem right now is that the threads are full of people who've jumped on the train in the recent arc and are now expecting constant development every single week. Don't try to make this look like a war between a cult and people who believe to know better. Some people just stick around for the comedy and the characters, and then you'll have this constant doomposting and nagging every single week that doesn't hand out immediate progression.
