I remember this show being fairly fun but I also remember how it got mildly serious in the middle of it for a while at least. Pretty stupid for a show at first firmly establish itself as a comedic light-hearted one yet in the middle of it do something like that. It's like the opposite of comic relief.

S2 was shit for several reasons, then there is that in the source they graduate and leave, then a new cast is introduced and MC starts a "new harem" which kind of also killed it for me.
I still hold S1 very fondly with love and is one of the most enjoyable shows I've seen.

Yakuindomo seemed quite dumb as for me. Cheap jokes and no quality characterization. It felt very basic and false to me. Granted I saw like only 3 episodes in full and just some cuts of other episodes. Didn't like it.

That's a respectable decision. Once I read the LNs I realized just how good DEEN's adaptation was. There's so many jokes and little things that were changed to suit the faster pace of animation as a media form without changing the original intent. I love the LN but I can safely say season 1 knocks it out of the water.
Now that we're on the topic, I need to talk about this one change in the anime that was brilliant but probably not noticed by many. In episode 9 Chizuru goes to confront her middle school bully, but before this happens there's a joke about doing a "handshake fortune telling". The joke is ostensibly that whoever interrupted Chizuru holding hands with Ken and staring into each other's eyes was jealous, but at the end of this scene as she leaves to go confront her bully, she whispers "thanks" to Ken. When she returns Ken asks to do the handshake fortune telling again and concludes that she had become calmer. The whispered "thanks" and the scene upon her return are NOT IN THE LN. But with this description you should know what I'm getting at, right? Chizuru was nervous and possibly even shaking, and she was looking for emotional support. It's an incredibly humanizing moment of Chizuru showing weakness, but in a subtle way that is completely in line with her character instead of breaking down into a moeblob for the sole sake of gap moe. This is accomplished with 4 lines of dialogue and 20 seconds of animation linking 2 ALREADY EXISTING SCENES. Season 1 is a masterpiece.

It's based, but there's nothing quite like it. The Lns are completely different to the anime, and S2 is also different because it follows the LNs and is completely different setting/plot wise.
DEEN did an excellent job with S1 that it's more memorable with anything else from the source material, or lackluster S2 (despite it having more budget).
