Wanted to rewatch YNNW, felt like rewatching this first for an appetizer

I was so asspained over the divergences from the original manga last year, but watching it again makes me wonder why I was like that. It's a beautiful movie, and I couldn't help but feel that it outdoes the manga in some ways as well. Truly KINO no Katachi.

Though I also couldn't help but think "Kawai gets away with looking better here because it's her role to get away with fucking everything".

whats the difference with the manga?
i already read the manga but i dont want to see tha movie.

Do you like when characters that aren't the MC's get some development? Because the movie doesn't give a shit about them.

>I couldn't help but feel that it outdoes the manga in some ways as well
If it had held back from doing the confession scene, I'd agree with you. As it stands, the movie's only better for one scene and subpar else.

I'd honestly say that both have their own strengths. Dropping the movie project was actually arguably the greatest decision that they could have made for the production, since it would take so much time just for the sake of developing something that isn't as related to the growths of Shouya, Shouko, or even Nagatsuka. And if they had tried to add it without making it look like a rushed job that included it just for the sake of it, it would have thrown at least another half hour on to the movie's length, if not more.

Kawai looking lot less worse than she actually was is a move that I wasn't fond of, but again, fully expanding on her would have been a bad decision for the movie. the manga could afford to take liberties with her development because it serialized supposed to run for a while; the movie has a limited amount of time to tell its story and the most important parts, and Kawai's development isn't really that important.

The important parts are
>Shouya and his growth
>Shouko and her development
>their friendship, romance, or however you want to define the relationship
>the characters most instrumental to the above, plus the story's themes

>Yuzuru is the first obstacle to Shouya's attempts to befriend Shouko, and makes him question why he's doing it and what he's really in it for. She is also bar none the most important secondary character in the manga, with her reasons for being so tied strongly to the development of both main characters as well as their relationship.
>Nagatsuka is the second most important secondary character, is Shouya's first friend in a long time, and is arguably a foil to Yuzuru. his movie project wasn't as important to his role or even his growth, so he is still essentially the same character even with the entire thing being removed.
>Ueno is one of Shouya's old friends, a d outside of her crush on him, she also serves as an obstacle and a foil to him, despite not strictly being an antagonist or even ill-meaning.

wew lad, here we go

>Kawai's colossal narcissism is much, much more apparent there, and she is to this day still the single most disliked character from the series
>Mashiba (funny eyebrows kid) is a bit more relevant, has a huge complex about bullies, and is arguably well-meaning, but holds grudges towards the people who bullied him in the past
>the fucking play
>tidbits of history, like what happens to their teacher, or why Shouko's dad is missing

The manga shows more of each character's humanity - and by humanity, we mean the "humanity is fucking ugly" side.
It's a very good story, it'll take a decent bit of time to get through and digest, but it's worth it.

thanks, going to see if i have some time to watch it....another day.

Imoutos don't get as perfect as Yuzuru. They just don't.
