Stands were a mistake. That's the honest to God truth. Jotaro is also boring as fuck. The series would have immediately improved if Joseph was a bit younger and had more screen time and Jotaro was either even edgier, and thus worth mocking, or actually had a personality.

This is possibly the worst taste I've ever seen in my life.
But to answer your question, it's because the build up to Egypt was really slow. There was some cool shit, but a majority of the fights are average at best. Cut out the really bad fights and then just go straight to Egypt and it'd be better. Probably would have also been better if Araki had just pulled the trigger on Hol Horse being the 6th crusader. Hol Horse doing the Avdol self sacrifice bit against Cream would have been the sickest shit ever.
