First, where has it been said those two are at war? Second, they can both be considered combatants as they are engaged in a competition against each other (in an arena). However, using the word would be contextually incorrect. To tell someone they are “not suited for combatants” just doesn’t sound right. Had he said something along the lines of “... you are not a suitable combatant (for me),” the context would be correct.
