Kaiji

I just finished the anime and goddamn was it probably the most satisfying end to any show I have ever watched. That being said, where does the end of the show pick up in the manga

Also general Kaiji thread

Watch Tonegawa

Attached: 1537013028176.jpg (1280x720, 167K)

I just catched up with the manga.
When do the chapters and their scanlations come out?

The anime covers the first 2 parts of the manga. The next one is part 3, "Tobaku Datenroku Kaiji".

How did people put up with the Bog in the anime? It's an unbearable slog.

He bet on pachinko?
doomp it

Bog is smalltime pacing compared to Washizu.

No.

At a glance I always think that thumbnail is related to Getter Robo.

Washizu is the greatest arc ever made

Usually every tuesday, but we caught up so I don't know.
Here's where you can check: fkmtkrazy.blogspot.com/search/label/Kaiji

Ossan Moe is important.

About the manga: It's kinda hard to first get into it because of the rules of the next game to play, but it's really worth it. The manga translation I read explained the rules and I would suggest trying to understand as much as possible and then just not worrying about small things you don't understand when you keep reading. It's really one of the best Kaiji arcs.
After I finished the anime, I finished the manga in one weekend. It's such a fast read, but it would probably take over 100 anime episodes.

Pleb filter

Knowing mahjong isn't required. It's more about cheating that playing, of course you won't know the names of hands but if Kaiji screams it it's good.

There's a lot of tactical greatness if you know mahjong though

Love Kaiji. Part 4 best part.
I need to try Akagi soon..

Attached: FB_IMG_1550793089664.jpg (303x453, 27K)

It's FKMT's magnum opus

Debatable

Ten isn't debatable

How long until Chang and/or Mario betray him?

Would you rather Mom or Endo join the party of our losers?

Mom who will be taken hostage once Mario betrays the group.

Remember that you absolutely need to understand Mahjong for Akagi. They don't take the time to explain it (and even if they did it'd take longer than the Washizu arc).

They won't betray but Mario with unintentionally fuck up

I thought the whole point of them is that they would never betray a friend. They even bet their lives to a retard like Kaiji.

Punished Tonegawa would be kino.

Still waiting for someone to make that edit

You can understand mahjong in 10 minutes

I know the games are great but I haven't play them yet.

I got a copy of the anime from a friend of mine so I was able to finish S1 and S2 in one sitting.
I just really liked the inner monologues and the narrator

You watched 52 episodes in one sitting? Dear god user, that's not healthy at all, you should go outside more.

Why wasn't there a SINGLE woman in this sexist show (the one shown for 20 seconds as a joke doesn't count)?
Legit asking

They'd be hollow. Either a caricature of a snake woman or a damsel that is his salvation. It'd be disingenuous and readers would point it out quickly. Also no fucking way it would be a victim like kaiji cause no women will ever suffer in a gamblers despair. She'd just latch on a guy ez

Any Akagi fans here?

a) The theme is pre-bubble vs post-bubble generations, women would contribute hardly much to it;
b) look at the art style there's some minimalism going, so something who wouldn't contribute much is omitted, and that's not only women. Say we don't even have any background on Akagi of all people, his family situation? the reason for him being this dead inside the time he appears? NOTHING, only assumptions.

The second season of Kaiji covers to the end of Part 2.
After that, you'll wanna go in this order
>Tobaku Datenroku Kaiji
>Tobaku Datenroku Kaiji: Kazuya-hen
>Tobaku Datenroku Kaiji: One Poker-Hen
>Tobaku Datenroku Kaiji: 24 Escape
They're caught up, so it's unsure. If you want, you can join the FKMTKrazy discord and keep track of it there.

This close enough

>kurosawa anime never
It hurts to live bro

There are multiple women in the manga
>Mikoko
>Kazuya's girls
>Kazuya's ex-gf
>Mother Sophie
>Kaiji's mom

This. He fucked around with it for more than 12 episodes. I tried pretty hard to finish that shit.

Kaiji leaving the apartment is going to backfire. Mom is going to have join the crew. It'll be fun; for us.

Yea

I haven't read or watched kaiji before. So would you guys recommend me to read its manga or watch the anime. I really enjoyed reading Strongest Man Kurosawa and it's sequel.

The OST is great man. Even if the second season isn't perfect, the music is good in the series and is good if you listen to it separately.

GAMBARE user

There's a 100% chance that Kaiji's mom is a better than your waifu, fag.

Im working on a big Akagi project right now.

Elaborate

What game are La Grande Madre and El Hermano De Kazuya going to play in this part's finale?

But the tension was there throughout the arc and each episode had its own wham moment that kept the game interesting. I genuinely didn't know whether Kaiji was going to win or not, because the show already established that he can lose when the stakes are high as fuck. As long as losing doesn't equal death and the end of the story, there's always a real chance that he'll lose.

I switched over to the manga every time it got too tedious. So for around 40% of the process.

The translators for Kaiji 3 did a good job of explaining it but it's still a far cry from understanding the nuances of Akagi's games.

Why not both? Kaiji evades the retarded watchmen but Endou manages to corner him on his own thanks to his loan shark's instinct. Mom clobbers Endou from behind and knocks him out, and they have no choice but to take him so he can't expose their location to Teiai. Mom has to join too otherwise Teiai would torture her the same way they almost tortured Sakazaki.

Kaijis mom is one of the best female characters in fiction

I'm just waiting on my Gai OVA

but there's 50 other moe shows with only womyn

The Kaiji Part 1 scans are low quality as hell past Chapter 17, but Part 2's scans are good quality, P3-6 are some of the best scanlations out there next to Akagi (which was scanlated by the same group)
I'd say anime for Part 1, manga for Part 2 (it cuts out some content like internal monologues from side characters and changes the prelude, cutting out some Hyodo dialogue for time)

1. the women are probably sold into sex slavery directly by Teiai
2. Mikoko does count.
3. Kaiji's mom counts as well.

Wait, you honestly think Kazuya-hen is the best part?
Never heard that one before desu
One Poker is criminally underrated though

Not that user but

6 = 5 > 1 = 4 > 2 > 3

Uno dice

Infernal Ajedrez: salto del volcan doble

>satisfying
>retard still blowing his money

I mean I guess, it was a fun ride either way.

But it ended in a very feel good moment with him eating with his friends

The dub is god tier. Especially the narrarator.

I would recommend watching the Kaiji anime rather than the manga. The music, the effects and especially the narrator are too good to miss on.

>seventeen steps at the bottom
Shit taste.

Well that's a problem with these lists, something has to be on bottom and it makes that part look bad.

>they would never betray a friend.

Attached: oh child.jpg (451x389, 34K)

Watching Kaiji is a blessing because you've watched the peak of anime and a curse because you'll forever be cucked from a season 3

All I want to see is a third season that's 24 episodes, 15 for part 3 and 9 for part 4 leaving a big cliffhanger at the end ( Kazuya match )
Then a season 4 with 36 episodes made of One Poker and current arc.

You're going to get 24 episodes of mahjong and you're going to love it.

Did you watch the pachinko commercial yet?
:^)

You mean the pachinko with part 3 bits?

I fucking wish.

Attached: Kaijicopter.png (230x176, 31K)

I mean the thinly veiled pachinko commercial that was confused as an anime season.

Link?

myanimelist.net/anime/10271/Gyakkyou_Burai_Kaiji__Hakairoku-hen

I am I the only one who finds the escape arc a bit meh? I like the idea but I honestly don't care enough about it. No matter what happens, it'll end up in another gamble.

That's season 2

nice bait

>implying season 2 wasn't a big commercial for pachinko
Wtf? I love watching pinball machines for 10+ episodes now.

Why would they betray him? He saved their lives and they even gave theirs so he could live, they're way past money having an effect on their relationship, it's more akin to blood brothers at this point.

It was a live action movie commercial

Season 2 is objectively better than season 1.
Better animation, better quality, more colorful, better OST..
I don't know why people here always prefer 1 over 2

A lot of people dislike The Bog arc.

Well then you dislike the source material not the anime.
Anime pulled it off perfectly, you were supposed to be exhausted by it, it made the payoff better.

>1. the women are probably sold into sex slavery directly by Teiai

This is exactly why I'm cool with the lack of women in the anime. With guys, you can beat them up, break their legs, burn them, torture them however, and who cares? Guys are disposable.

But a woman? God forbid if she appears in a situation like that, especially if she's attractive, like hell anyone is going to waste a lass. She's gonna get raped. And I don't want to see that, no one wants to deal with her misery.

And also, it fits the scenario much better for it to be all guys, guys who have failed at life and only see loneliness and/or despair in their future. Women will can and will always find a guy. May not be their dream relationship, but no matter who they are, they will receive advances to give them the opportunity to work with someone to improve their lifestyles.

I don't remember any oof OST:ON moments in s2 like the naked fight in the mirror room or during the first stage of derby.

Wish is the overall best OST in Kaiji but season 2 has better ost, really adds a lot to the show especially in the Bog arc with Don't give up, Fate, Hakairoku, White Heat..

>objectively better
Stopped reading

Glad.

>first stage of derby
Reminds me I noticed how the intro of Beginning plays in S2 in pic related scene, when Kaiji and Ichijou are trying to cross over to success and one of them will be pushed off. Such a good cue.

Attached: [Nutbladder]_Kaiji_S2_-_12_[51DAC074].mkv_snapshot_13.27_[2018.12.08_01.59.33].jpg (1280x720, 146K)

On a more meta note, one thing I've noticed from is that there are no 'heist' anime per se, with Kaji coming very close to it with aspects of the bog arc (it was a nice surprise when I watched it, and easily got me through. My opinion is that it's just a marmite arc-you either love it or hate it). It's definitely not a 'dont show crime' thing in the same vein as Schrodingers nipple due to the huge amount of Yakuza inspired anime and relatable villains as a general term in better written animau.

Anybod got any answers, because I'm a real fucking sucker for properly orchestrated heist/prison breaks in fiction and outside of Impel Down, Kaji really is the only anime that gave me those feels of a proper job done well yes there are other examples like the one in Tokyo Ghoul, but they just feel like haphanded fortress assaults as oppose to a strategised plan against a stronger enemy on their home turf.
It just feels like a stupidly missed opportunity when so many anime/manga essentially boil down to 'Defeat the Demon King' or 'Tell them your true feelings'.

That's what we said about the 45ers.

Haven't seen it yet but doesn't Baccano have a heist or something

Not in the anime.

Hyodo is a very powerful man. He has a lot of money and more than 1000 henchmans. He also has connections with other powerful people. His henchmans and therefore Hyodo himself known where Kaiji's mother and sister live. And what does Hyodo do? He appoints the ordinary loan shark (Endo) as the leader of the search party because Endo has met Kaiji 4 times. Why didn't men in black kidnap mother or sister? Why didn't they use crooked cops to frame Kaiji for some crime? Why are men in black afraid of cops? Kaiji's opponents is just a bunch of incompetent idiots.
Last arc is complete bullshit.

Is the continuation manga any good? I was shocked to see that it even existed

1jo in manga when

Hyodo is powerful and wily, but unless he's properly motivated and excited his old age gets the better of him. Ultimately he's got the power of a megacorp, but he's not quite Asahara tier yet where he could feasibly take on the government. He's constantly protecting himself from the possibilites of the government, building a nuclear shelter and living almost as a recluse as oppose to an actual nuke, inferring that he's ultimately still below world politics and prefers to be on the defensive.
Plus if the pigs get wind of the shit Hyodo is pulling, it's game over. It's better to just do things yourself then to leave it to someone else and risk that someone else coming after you.
Then it's easiler to just leave it up to a guy who's already in on the case than to drag in a ton of others, especially when Endo is repeatedly shown to have a higher influence than a basic loan shark (suggesting he's either got sway or is effective) and has had personal dealings with Kaiji before.

Human derby is underappreciated

Attached: x4.png (1122x1600, 873K)

Kaiji scans are seriously very high quality

People wouldn't imagine that arc is better done in manga considering how weak the earlier chapters overall look.

There's a new pachinko machine that covers Part 5 as well
youtube.com/watch?v=D_tw_DQ3uso&t=0s&list=PLagX-LeD8zSM4vuFLBzBrQ_0LdynmHFNV&index=56

This unironically destroys all chance for season 3 and on

Why? There was a part 2 pachinko.

Nah, it's pretty common for pachinko machines to do stuff like this. They're entertainment machines as well.
Hell, Resident Evil got the REmake on pachinko before the actual REmaster (that seemed incredibly unlikely as it hadn't left the GCN/Wii for over a decade)
That, and the anime exists to advertise the live action films (S1 and S2 were both made to do this). A new film is coming 2020, so S3 is coming with it.

>A new film is coming 2020, so S3 is coming with it.
Would be hinted at by now no?

Tonegawa's anime was announced in February and was set to come out in the Summer season.
Kaiji S2 was announced in January and came out in April.

La Hermana de Kaiji is being saved for the very last arc of the manga, where she will face off against El Hermano de Kazuya in Hell Chess, in a final battle that will last 20+ years and kill the author out of using up all of his life force in order to create the ultimate gambling masterpiece.

Aren't FKMT properties pretty hot? I mean we have gotten multiple live action versions (both tv and movies) and a two cour comedy show. Now is the best time to make more Kaiji, since it looks like it would sell pretty well. Hell, they could have used the manpower and money meant for Tonegawa and animate Kaiji 3 instead. And nothing would have been lost. I don't get it. Why is there such a huge huge block for Kaiji 3? Mahjong ain't that bad. Good direction, human drama, ost and explanations can make Mahjong interesting even to those who don't play it (I recently watched Akagi without knowing how to play, but it was still really intense and well made).

You're really missing the full experience in akagi by not knowing how to play.

>ost
Maybe this. Maybe they are waiting for the composer to get out of jail. Sure he won't be credited but maybe he can ghost write or something.

Tonegawa was and is very popular right now and they seized on it, Kaiji's been flagging a bit because of the pacing.
And no, it's not all hinging on the composer.

>it's not all hinging on the composer.
I never said that it was.

This user implied it.

>>>It's Ultimate Hell Chess
>>Final arc showdown, Kaiji vs the Devil itself who has been orchestrating the entire thing from the getgo to strenthen Kaiji's soul and use it to 1v1 God with the luck and strength it's accumulated
>Kaiji is playing with human pieces
>The entirety of Kaijis side are the 20 man gang he's built up
>Losing a piece means they get killed irl in front of everybody, and if they take a piece and refuse to kill it, they get killed themselves too
>Kaiji has to choose himself who will be his pawns, rooks, knights, bishops and queen
Fund it

Maybe most young people in Japan don't know how to play Mahjong and they think it's a bit of a gamble to produce an anime based around it.
Was Akagi comercially succesful? It came out like 13 years ago anyway.

>Was Akagi comercially succesful
Anime? No.
Tonegawa unironically was the biggest commercial success out of every anime. Read somewhere that 2 or 5% of all Japs with TVs watched Tonegawa's last episode on Christmas eve, that's pretty impressive.

Akagi and Kaiji were on a national broadcasting network iirc, so they weren't making money from advertising. Kaiji broke into the top 10 viewed series for at least one week, which is usually dominated by popular kids shows, so it was a big deal.

>Maybe most young people in Japan don't know how to play Mahjong and they think it's a bit of a gamble to produce an anime based around it.

Isn't Mahjong really, really popular in Japan?

It's more of an old folks' game, but pretty much everyone at least understands the basics. Kind of like poker and other card games in the west.

Then why nobody buy DVD and Blu-ray?

Sorry for the late reply. It is really hard to post and drive at the same time. Basically I am working on an Akagi video series. I use the manga panels to create sort of slideshow like episodes. >my.mixtape.moe/ncymev.wmv
This is my first try. I expect I'll get better at this. Right now i have already done this to two chapters.

It's not marketed at the crowd who buys them, i.e. otaku. Most people don't want to crowd their already-small apartments with a bunch of extra shit unless it's to make a statement about your dedication to the brand, like an otaku collecting a bunch of merch.

Because the kinds of people who are into FKMT don't buy anime discs when they can just watch it on TV, they buy movie tickets and manga.

Not bad at all.
Add different OST and add effects. Like for example say he's smoking add some smoke coming out or when the *clatter* happens add a sound effect.

This is pretty neat, although I'd suggest pacing it a little slower so people can linger on the panels a bit. Also like what suggested with adding in sound effects. Could even toss in some zawas, if you want.
Hope you keep it up.

Pretty good excuse. I'll remember it in case my favourite anime sells very bad.

They were on national television and didn't need advertising to make up their funding, but okay.

Neat!

Thanks for the feedback. It's gonna be one long ass project, but I really wanna make it happen (and I like doing it). Right now I wonder if I should complete alot of "episodes" and upload them together, or if I should upload an "episode" every time I finish one and try to keep a schedule. Also, finding sfx is kinda really hard. I tried, but many if them don't sound right. And I gotta download some Kaiji eps to find Zawa's with no background noise. As for the OST, I am thinking about starting with Akagi OST and slowly introducing stuff from death note, kaiji and etc.
And i do expect that I get better with every day of work and thus the quality should rise in the future.
At the moment I finished the entire bit up to the anime ending in the middle of chapter 109.

After the OP in Kaiji S2, they have a string of 3 zawas played over Mikoko

For OST you can use:
-Akagi
-Kaiji
-Death Note
-Danganronpa ( game )
-Liar Game ( Drama )

would it be accurate to call akagi an idiot savant?

He's not an idiot at all, at worst he's awkward.

not really

Attached: 1550995062872.jpg (789x1136, 303K)

I just finished akagi anime, and I have this weird interpretation of Akagi. Basically I think he is the devil himself. Or at least a demon. The first episode has such an eerie and unnatural feeling. Sort of like Akagi materialised into this world just because of that mahjong match that took place in that hotel. He shows no fear, has the devils own luck and intellect (learning Mahjong on his first high stakes game and out performing veteran players), has the absolute ability to read people, has no human qualities to him, no history, family, hobbies, emotions and no losses. Basically he just exists to cause chaos and gamble. We can all agree that he wasn't no average 13 year old when the story started. All of that leads me to believe that Akagi is some sort of a supernatural being that came down to earth to fuck around with humans and gamble.
How is my interpretation?

Read the manga, and Ten. He's a lot more human there.

So a new Kaiji movie in 2020 and a third season to advertise it? Gotcha, I'll mark it down on my calendar.

nice try but nah

Attached: 1522431437950.jpg (1680x4809, 2.39M)

Akagi is perfect at everything.

Even sex?

He can't order from a restaurant and is addicted to gambling. Just that no one cares about the latter because he always wins.

>Danganronpa
Damn, never thought of that. It has some killer OST.
