Gore is more for shock value than anything else, gore for gore's sake doesn't make things more mature. It depends on what mood you want for the series anyway, BnHA is capeshit which is literally Disney nowadays and is pretty tame with regards to gore. I'm sure other people had different points where they started to think MHA wasn't that great, but for me personally, it was when we just got done watching Mirio be a badass, nobly sacrifice his quirk, and continue to fight even without his quirk.
Then Deku just fucking barges through the wall like the Kool-Aid man and mindlessly overpowers Overhaul, not through his own skill, but because Eri just so happened to have a quirk that could boost Deku to a power level where it would be practically impossible for him to lose.
There have been good moments since then, like the Pro Hero arc and Match 3. I even enjoyed the Remedial Training arc. But Hori ending the longest arc in the series in such an unsatisfying way just made me realize that MHA wasn't as good as I thought at first.
