I used to get so hyped on mondays when a new issue was released. Despite it taking a massive nosedive towards the later half of RE: I kept on reading it till the end. I miss getting hyped on mondays now. Before the downfall it was my first manga that got me excited for the next issue.

Furuta made sense as a antagonist but he was handled poorly. They both act as foils to one another with Kaneki born into misery and being dragged into the ghoul world by accident and slowly being accepted as a ghoul among his friends trying to make a difference for everyone compared to Furuta who was born into privilege intentionally for eugenics but somehow felt like his short lifespan is a excuse to selfishly make his life more exciting while he's still around to drag everyone else into the whole ghoul mess. The battle of wits could've been really interesting but instead Furuta's master plan was literally invade and hope that Kaneki would show up alone which that idiot went ahead and did despite being far away from the base which made absolutely no sense.

Reminds me of the time when the majority of the people here were begging for the "real" kaneki to come back, but personally I've always liked Haise from day 1. The slowly changing hair color from b/w to almost pitch-black was also a great narrative tool to signalize the reader that his memories were gradually returning.
It's a shame that not only the writing had gotten somehow worse but also the art, which changed from a sketchy-detailed style to what almost looked like scribbles. Chapters like 125, 144-147, or the final Rize-Kaneki chapters were a rarity. He also started putting way more effort into fixing stuff later on in the final volume release, which was very untypical for him. I don't know but sometimes I wish we'd gotten a monthly schedule, at the very latest when Kaneki declared himself as OEK.

Yeah Sasaki > Kaneki. I thought that if he got his memories back he would become a combination of Kaneki and Sasaki or a more Cynical Sasaki, but instead he just became Bitchy Kaneki again.

I would've been fine with Tatara getting defeated by Takizawa, but he could've at least given him his long awaited revenge against the man who killed his brother. Instead, Takizawa steps in and offscreens Houji. I was not even disappointed with Shachi's death, but the fact that V still managed to get their hands on Rize despite his sacrifice, left a bad taste in my mouth. Espeically because it happened offscreen, and Rize was seen like 40 chapters after that scene.

Part 1 set the bar too high, so people kept comparing :RE to its prequel. As a standalone, :RE is pretty mediocre but still better than most of the on going series you get nowadays.
