The studies I've found find that the average man and woman have similar IQs, but yes, there is more variability in men's IQ.
One notable thing is that women's IQ used to be lower, but have gone up a lot in recent decades, most likely due to environmental factors.

As put it, modern schooling is basically built around making boys sit act like girls, i.e. sitting still and doing repetitive busywork. So a lot of boys do poorly in pre-secondary education as a result, but then high-level math rolls around and girls get rolled anyway.
