Ashita no Joe 2

What do I do now ?
I just finished the best anime of all time.
I can't start to explain how this was a masterpiece from start to finish.

Joe thread guys, please. I'm really sad and happy at the same time. It's a strange feeling.

joe was a brainlet, he could've been no.1 if he was patient

I'm sad he lost in a way but that doesn't matter. He burned his fire.

I preferr Onii sama e but yeah Joe is fucking amazing

I LOVE JOE
Also, I guess: which was your favorite fight, moment, episode? Have you seen more of Dezaki's work?

>What do I do now ?

Wait a while and watch Megalobox.

I only watched Rose of Versailles from him which was excellent.
I loved everything in this season, from ep 1 to 47. It is like they took everything from season 1, got ride of the flaws and did a perfect sequel.

No more children all the time, no more fucking reporters each episode, a much better pacing...

I especially loved Hawaii episodes. The atmosphere, the characters interactions, the visual and narrative were insanely good.
My favorite fight is probably Joe vs Mendoza. In the season 1 the Rikiishi one. Nothing peculiar here.
What about you ? Who are your favorite characters ? And did you watch some other Dezaki works ?

I like the fight with the korean guy and his backstory. Technically Joe didn't even defeat him, he lost when he saw blood because of his traumatised past. Have watched The Rose of Versailles and it was great, Cobra's next on the backlog

Watch LoGH.

they are very different shows, I enjoyed Joe more

Already did. I love it too.
I don't know which one I like the most but for now, it is Joe. I cried at the very end. I was spoiled of his death for years, but I couldn't help it.

It's a really touching Gurren Lagann reference.

>loved Hawaii episodes
Based. Apart from being comfy as hell, the whole thing was riddled with subtle nuance of Joe's growth as a character and even more so of him growing up. One scene he was jumping from balconies and the other was questioning Yoko's relationship to him. Acknowledging her drawn back attitude with the positive things she was doing just for him, not so much for her own gain.
God , I just can't decide who my favorites are, I mean the whole thing would fell apart for me, with even one missing, or even worse if someone say Roberto had different characterization, or a different outcome. I just can't say Joe is my favorite, obviously, when he'd still be a little smart-ass, if it weren't for Danpei's innocent, wholesome feeling for him and all the bright hopes he had with him. With that said, I feel like Yoko is the most precious and important character for me and no I'm not a waifu-fag. Her growth felt vital for the series and for the viewer, even more so than Joe's, at least in my eyes. She had to step up when her influence was needed, she was the one who always pushed Joe to his limits. Her feeling for him and their progression were the most genuine and grounded. She never lost control (apart from that one time in end), nor ever betray her own judgment. She had to be the calm for Joe's storm and always was, even when she had Rikishi.
And as this guy said Onii sama ee is a late work of his and should definitely be seen.

megalobox was shit, gary stu mc just one shot counters every fight

I can't disagree with you. Every episode of Joe is an essential build-up to the end. You can't remove an episode without losing some substance which made this anime a masterpiece.

>I feel like Yoko is the most precious and important character for me
My fucking man. This was probably one of my favorite aspect about Joe 2. Her growth and characterization were astonishing. I loved everything about her. I had heard some complaints about her from people saying she was become blank and less interesting than in season 1. I can't disagree more. Her evolution, her maturity, her personnality, all is made with an incredible subtlety. When I look back at the start of the season 1 and her relation with Joe, to see such a credious development all along the second season, I couldn't stay unmoved. I feel like Dezaki loved her character and he gave her so much screentime, so much depth, I can't thank him enough. At the very end, when she loses her composure, everything is said and done.

Nishi was such a satisfaying character too. I won't develop but I love his coming of age and what man he is.
Joe obviously is in my heart forever.

based
megalo box was a fucking scam roping people in with the allure of violent robo boxing, then it just become fucking sub ippo shit

Damn, couldn't have said it better. It's pretty simple when we lay it all on the table: without Yoko, Joe and Danpei's tomorrow, would have never come.
Nishi is top tier bro and not just a stepping stone for the plot's development, or just the wing man, when said plot needed him. With the screen time he got, I just don't know what else we could've gotten out of his arc and relationship with the rest of the cast. In a way Nishi works not just because he's a lovable, tough guy with a pure heart and a strong, emotional soft side. He also shares our position, having to cheer on for his friend as we do while we watch. At times he was even more worried that Danpei for Joe's sake and wasn't afraid of showing it. He always hoped, that when, his unfiltered feelings were on display, they would in someway or another reach Joe. I don't know if it's just me, but him being there, doing what he did and how he did it made it especially easy for me as a viewer to be in his shoes. Just staying still and enjoying every little spark that comes out of that fire ahead in the distance. Not feeling it's warmth, but acknowledging it's mere existence and seeing it all trough to the end. If it didn't end where it did and I'm talking about the final shot, Nishi would be the one to hopelessly grasping at the white ash, that was the only thing left, once the flame had burned out.

>You can't remove an episode without losing some substance which made this anime a masterpiece.
i felt like the wild Malaysian boxer arc was kinda unnecessary.

Nishi and Danpei was fucking based. that reminds me, what happened to Nishi's voice in season 2?

Ashita no Joe 2 really means a lot to me. I finished it at the end of 2017 and felt so inspired by Joe's self-destructive yet acknowledged motivation, it resonated with what I was feeling as a somewhat reckless motorcycle rider and traveler.
Shortly after I left on a journey solo through SE Asia on one of their small domestic bikes and it was the best time of my life. Joe's quote about burning his fire until all that remains is pure white ash was running through my head a lot at that time. There's something magical about boxing stories overall, I liked every single anime and movie about fighting in the ring... Ippo, Warrior, Always, Kids Return, The Wrestler, Raging Bull, Rocky, Million Dollar Baby etc (well they weren't all strictly boxing). Blog over.

Yoko best girl, the last episode shattered me.

Attached: joe cinegrid.jpg (2000x1510, 870K)

Would be nice if someone would sub the first compilation movie.

Everything you said is right. The main cast is almost flawless. Each character is important in his own way and each one a a proper development and a great growth. Whoever is it, Nishi, Danpei(who I went from dislike to love), Noriko, even Carlos and Mendoza.
The last time I saw a anime that left me with such a feeling of accomplishment and wistfulness is Maison Ikkoku. Both animes are utterly different but they end perfectly in their own ways.
I'm not sure I've seen a better coming of age character than Joe. He's fantastic.

I agree, but at least Yoko got some development in this end. It was not necessary but it didn't annoy me. It's a minor flaw.

That's great you could take the substantive marrow from AnJ. I love the ideas it conveys, the power of the spirit and the will it give to one who wants to believe in it. You can't stay impassif with such powerful messages all along the show. And it's done so marvelously too, visually, musically, etc.
It's a coming of age for Joe and every character of the show but it is one for every one of us who watched it, who watched them live, changed, develop as complete human beings.
Burn your fire till the end friend. I hope you won't run out of fire before a long time.

you get used to it, it's no big deal hopefully

Lmao nice tumblr gif. Fuck off newfag.

I haven't watched the anime, but the manga is among my favourites.
I bought all the volumes recently.

Was Rikiishi the first true bancho in anime? Did he start the archetype of the cool-headed gang leader?

Hi. Reddit called.
They want their thread back.

Yeah this one wasn't for me. It had some elements I liked, like at times in the first season the rough and gritty art really stood out, but for the most part I think this is the most time I've invested in a show without really liking it.

Now read Ashita no Joe, the best manga of all time I guess

Well, it's a story about poor people marching to their deaths told through sports. You need to relate to the premise in some form or another to get anything out of it.

>upper left image
Can I get a full please?

Yeah, I am sure that everyone here is poor people who fight to their death.

It was the case in post-war japan where there were a lot of violent youths that popularized it. You think anons here are non-violent?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that a bunch of circlejerking basedboys are pretty violent.

We can only speculate as to Yea Forums's demographics but I'd be willing to wager that we're pretty fucking far from post-war Japanese youths

And you aren't one by that logic? Besides, those aren't the type of people who would watch an old show explicitly about boxing in the first place.

I kind of understand you. It took me one year or so to watch the first season. I was quite depressed and it wasn't easy to invest in AnJ. But the second season made up for everything. I loved it.

Wrong on both points.

The second season didn't do much for me, but it's definitely easier to recommend, if only to Dezaki fans. I actually found myself missing the rawer art of the first even if it was much weaker overall.

So what was your reason for investing in it? Do you enjoy sports?

My private reasons for liking or not liking it are irrelevant which is the point. You can't make a generalist assertion that only a certain type of person would enjoy a certain show.

The reasons do matter. You can't enjoy a show about the nature of sportsmen if you don't connect with the topic itself.

You can. Also since when did "poor people marching to their deaths told through sports" become "sportsmen"?

Sports are about hard work and dedication, so poor people are drawn to sports more often.

>Your shout moved people's hearts
Damn, fucking second opening broke me.

That final fight was fucking insane
Literally a deathmatch
The only so-so point in this show was Harimau

Everyone agrees on that, and the worst part? It's actually better on the show than the manga, it goes straigtht into it and just focusses on it working to bring Joe animal instincts back without wasting time on useless backstory

Man, you can really see how this was Mishima's favorite manga.

Who's Mishima? The Bakuman character?

Yukio Mishima, pal

Sun and Steel is a quintessential /fit/ read. Would definitely recommend.

The artwork was amazing all along.
I could have screenshot 3/4 of the anime art. I was astonished in every episode.

I watched 4 ep per day until the end. When I had like 10 episodes left, I started to feel so fucking tense. This user is right It was the fucking shit.
Even if Joe lost his fight and lost his life, he won his pride and achieved his dreams. Amazing.

>obsessive geeks wouldn't watch a famous fifty-year-old classic of the medium they're obsessive geeks about
I think your understanding of the people you're talking about has some holes in it.

Geeks love violence and anime's full of it. The other guy was implying that people here are "basedboys" and I don't buy that.

he didn't care about winning, he wanted to fucking die

he didn't want to die. He wanted to fight to the very end. His death is just a consequence.

Watch Aim for Ace for true manly sports kino

So what are the chances Danpei fucking killed himself after Joe died?

Joe giving his gloves to Yoko broke my heart.

Attached: 1550555351283.jpg (1440x1080, 220K)

>Joe died
>Danpei will become depressed after Joe died and will become an alcoholic again and lose everything
>Nishi is stuck in a loveless marriage
>Carlos is still retarded
>Yoko will become a cat lady

None. He may have been a shitty boxer, but he sure as hell isn't a quitter. Joe only got into boxing because his passion rubbed off on him. He'll probably start drinking more now that Joe's dead, but he still has a gym to run and people to train.

when will the joe died meme stop? even the mangaka said he wasn't sure if joe died and chiba even drew a scene after the match. its yoko looking after joe. plus chiba said this back in 2018

>While I draw that scene, I didn’t think whether he was dead or alive. I tried to express pure white Joe as a burnt-out man.

They're all gonna quit on him when he goes on drunken rants about how they're not good enough and none of them will ever be able to be as good as Joe was.

user.... I doubt this was the kind of story where Joe would survive.

Attached: 1455276113374.jpg (322x398, 51K)

>I doubt this was the kind of story where Joe would survive.
except it was. it wasnt about joe dying doing what he loves. its about taking the risk, and giving it your all even if you do fail.

>Chiba: Now, at the university, I often come in contact with students, and when I look at their lives I feel like it’s a bit of a waste. I want them to take some more risks and try to fulfill their own potential. After all, we live in a era of the internet and electric books, with even more, new possibilities emerging.

Joe hardly even took his boxing lessons seriously and only made use of the cross counter. It's because of his brawler style that he died. At least now Danpei has an avenue to teach people how to correctly box and it's thanks to Joe, so he can't just quit like how Joe didn't when Rikishi died.

Yoko coming back to the stadium and cheering on him loudly near the ring did the trick for me.
She was so composed all along the show but this last episode was hard to watch.

Anybody here seen Cool Hand Luke?

memories.

Is it anything like the prison arc in S1?

Sure, they don't say it in plain letters, but the context makes it feel like a death. Well, either a death or he's a vegetable for the rest of his life. No one wants that though.

Cobra's phenomenal too. The story is a lot more pulp than Joe, but the animation and the visuals and just the overall design of everything is one of a kind

TRIPLE
CROSS
COUNTER

overrated shit
