Here is a "The Manga Reader Bingo" to commence things
My first manga was Death Note, a weeb friend I had at the time lent it to me, since I always liked western comics.
"Dude, check this out, It's like your cape-shit comics, but more mature and intelligent"
I ended up liking it, I still do, and read manga until today
>What was the first manga that you read?
Some weird shit I don't remember name of, so let's pretend it was Berserk.
>Do you still enjoy it?
Berserk? I guess, didn't read it in 10 years. Manga? Why yes, of course.
>Please, show us your manga 3x3!
At least have some decency to show yours first.
I read this one manga with a teenage Yotsuba. Shit was so cash.
Sorry, not sorry.
The 20 manga one might be true if you count one shots and series whose anime adaptations are pretty different. I haven't been following any of the manga I'm following now for 5 years. I mostly read monthly manga so the weekly space doesn't apply to me right now.
>first manga
Might be Rurouni Kenshin. That's also the series I counted for the "followed serialization until the end" since I'm pretty sure I bought the English volumes as they came out but I didn't follow it when it was running in Japan. I haven't read it in a while but I'm sure I'd still like it.
Only ranma and opm
Pokemon special was the first manga I ever had though weirdly enough it was an issue of 3 chapters rather than a outright volume (first volume was a volume of Alita). First manga I read from beginning to end was Love Hina. It's anime got me into anime and I wanted more after so I sought out the manga and read it full from the public library (both public and school library had manga). First pirated manga were Negima and Naruto. Going from the Naruto anime and Love Hina I dived straight into those series (even though I dropped Naruto and Negima is kill). First manga that wasn't of any popularity I read was Iono the Fanatics. A yuri series about a Mary Sue queen adding to her harem of women. Even back then I was a yurifag. From late high school through collect I was reading manga almost everyday back in college I couldn't torrent so I was pretty much reading manga exclusively. After college I slowed down and been getting into isekai webnovels (the biggest downgrade in human history).
What was the idealized manga about?
yotsuba lewds when?
Most of those are trivial.
Also ...
>Please, show us your manga 3x3!
Sure, why not!?
>didn't spoil for anime-only fan
>implying
First manga was One Piece, when my aunt gave me a volume she bought at an airport as a little gift( the volume when they get to Jaya).
I still enjoy OP,though I don't read it weekly anymore.
Doraemon. I can still enjoy it.
>3x3
Gotta make it first
At least not that I remember, user. And I do try to keep myself from discussing future plotpoints in anime-threads. That being said, I can't rule out that some anime-only fan might have stumbled over some comment of mine in a manga-centered thread.
>Gotta make it first
What's stopping you?
I think my first manga was probably Battle Royale. I'm not sure how that happened, exactly. I haven't even seen the movie.
>read a manga in japanese
>don't know how to read sfx

Yes. Deciphering the sound effects is not as easy as you might think. Have you ever tried to do that? If so, please tell me what "boron", "patapata", "zaa", "zuoo" (and so on) mean.
Yes, sometimes that stuff can be guessed by context, but that's not the same as understanding those sounds.
Berserk officially counts for 30 years ago, but other than that I haven't read anything really old..
Of course more than a dozen weekly series, and counting "other than weekly" it's an absurd amount.
And as for a magazine, none physically but I've bought several digitally to rip.
2ez.
To the questions
>What was the first manga that you read?
Naruto, hardy har har. Sad but true. Fuck no I don't enjoy or read it, and I dropped it before the end, only to pick it back up when I heard it was ending. I don't read or watch Boruto.
3x3
The best thing about reading manga is that it takes no time, really. I don't watch anime anymore because why would I waste that kind of time? The next best thing is variety. There are so many manga out there. An absurd amount with a long history and new ones gets started all the time. There's something for anyone to like, and if you like something specific, there's probably a lot out there similar to it to match your tastes. It's a fantastic medium.
To be fair there are quite a few dumb ones. Like, seriously, there's a lot.
Here's a taste, and this is NOT all of them thejadednetwork.com
>1,999 sfx at present

Why a question mark for serialization finishing?
5/6
+Yotsuba, OPM, Tsugumomo, Dungeon Meshi, YKK
-HxH. I really dislike HxH
My first ever manga was Yotsuba. It made me feel things and I don't know how to describe
Have you translated/done any work on a raw manga WITHOUT a group? I had until just last year. The group I technically work with, I don't really do anything for them aside from translating one series I like and waiting on them to clean and typeset it.
I think I'm pretty safe. The first manga I read and also bought every volume of in my native langauge was FMA
Only recently started reading manga. Mostly because I just started to really get into anime and have been sick of shows just dropping off like hey here's the setup see you in the sequel (aired 2011). I'm an autist when it comes to reading so unfortunately I plow throw everything I start reading in no time. Definately need suggestions for good stuff
What an I reading?
Domestic Girlfriend
Killing Bites
Shield hero
Quintessential quintuplets
Slime bro in another world
Konosuba and is spin offs
Interviews with Monster Girls
And a few others
Glad I started, kinda a meditation, put on some good music, blow through a series then go to bed.
3/4
Considering you gave me a detailed rating, I'll make an exception and go into detail myself:
+ Hinamatsuri, World Trigger, Tsugumomo
- Yuru Camp (Never could really get into it, neither manga or anime, for some reason.)
Should read Voynich Hotel some time.
I'm also intrigued by Teppu, mainly for the artstyle, but I'm also hesitant because of its sports focus, which is something I often find rather momotous and uninspired in manga.
Interesting that we both share Tsugumomo, which tends to be a relatively uncommon pick for 3x3.
Teppu is a WEIRD sports manga. If you don't like most sports manga, you may like it. The villain is the protagonist and the story is crazy.
The only bad thing about it is that it ends. The author was horribly ill and couldn't finish it the way he wanted, so he finished it prematurely.
Well, thanks for the elaboration! I'll give it a try.
First manga I read was Dragon Ball when I was around 8, a friend had all the volumes and lent them to me. I still think it's a solid manga, but I'd rather not get involved with Super.
5/6, mixed points for OPM and Tsugumomo, they are good but I don't consider them favorite material.
3.5/5, mixed points for Hinamatsuri, Tsugumomo and Teppu for the same reasons.
Given that Teppu had to end early its ending wasn't too bad, still disappointing though.
3/3 to the most recognizable ones
1/3 (more like 1.5/3)
Lone cub and wolf gets a point, and while Fukumoto is not exactly my cup of tea (neither his artstlye not his storytelling), I can appreciate the way he builds his characters.
I also have to confess that I haven't read one single Tezuka Osamu manga. I should.
Black Jack and Adolf ni Tsugu are good starting points if you plan to start reading Tezuka, as the first one is episodic and the second one is short enough.
You could also start with Astroboy, but keep in mind the storylines are very mixed in quality.
I sometimes give tips to newbie scanlators, but I don't think that counts.
Something about your bingo looks tastier than the others.
I think it's called happiness, user.
It's strange that someone actually started reading manga with Yotsuba. I mean, Japanese children, sure, but for adults in the West it's a strange pick.
But it must be an incredible first experience to the medium, albeit very atypical: Most manga simply aren't that cozy.
How did you cope with your first non-Yotsuba manga?
Dunno if it counts as an import, but I bought Volumes 8 and 10 of Assassination Classroom while I was in a quick layover in Japan. One of them had my favorite cover image at the time while the other was holographic and included the anime announcement sleeve around it.
I try to avoid any manga which has bad art, or an art style that's weird. There are some exceptions, but more often than not, I hate manga with bad art.
My first manga was Buddha, and I don't read much. I have very unorthodox taste because I hate hipster manga, but I hate the mainstream manga as well. Favourites include Summit of the Gods, Nausicaa and Jojolion.
I have read many manga but in a small timeframe of like 3 years. Also I haven't read any manga since day 1 that I haven't dropped except Dr.Stone and David Reinassance. Most of the time I need at least 10 chapters to get me going. The day any of those end I will have that one marked
For you

I'm not one of the posters you replied to, but Yotsuba was my first manga as well.
Though in my case it was because I had just finished watching my first anime, Azumanga Daioh, so I knew what I was in for.
>so I knew what I was in for.
Well, I guess you had a cozy time. But what was your first non-cozy manga?
