While rewatching the early series, I found it kind of funny that Shinichi wears a suit with a red bowtie as casual clothes outside of school. But he's so self-assured that he pulls it off and actually looks cool in it. If this took place in the USA, that would be considered extremely dorky autism on par with Reviewbrah's fashion sense and made fun of mercilessly. I wonder if this points to a possible reason why DC never took off in America, if maybe Americans found Shinichi/Conan too much of a nerd and couldn't warm up to him.

Interesting thing to discuss. Another thing in America (it also happens in anime in general but western animation drowns in it) is kids with glasses being obnoxiously annoying. The "according to my calculations" type of nerd and a lot dont like them, I wonder if anyone ever thought Conan was like that since he kinda has the same appearance as what you'd see in a character like that.

We didn't see much of his school life and only saw 2 episodes where he was himself.

He was famous, on TV and newspapers, getting love letters from fans, and it seemed like his classmates treated him with respect the few times they showed his high school life. Maybe he wasn't sociable enough to take advantage of all the attention, but it seemed like his peers thought of him as cool.

There was an episode with the Detective Boys where Conan was overly paranoid and kept assuming the worst scenario. I forgot if they turned that around to him being right all along though. If he's ever wrong it's about something not central to the crime.

Honestly it's really why Gin is the perfect villain for a mystery series. He's exactly as smart as the protagonist and is therefore constantly able to see past his schemes and plan ahead.

Granted his sole failure is not knowing Conan is involved or who he is so he keeps fucking up at points that would easily let him win because of that

I badly want this to happen. I'm so desperate for more Shinichi (as opposed to Conan) content that I'm watching the live action adaptations which I normally never do for manga because they usually suck. He is such a great, unique character, and there are all sorts of things he can do story-wise that Conan can't. Honestly, it's kind of a waste to have continued Conan for decades without any resolution. I'm worried that by the time Gosho does end DC, he'll either be too old or sick of the characters and won't want to do a sequel.

When people talk about a country's safety, they're talking about crime & other human-related factors, not natural/environmental disasters. There is little to no violent crime in Japan.

Another obvious one is what if Conan had told Ran his identity early on, how would the story have developed differently. But I guess I'm thinking more of parallel universes/AUs. The live action dramas are kind of like that already. They could also do stuff like different historical settings, the characters in different professions/life circumstances, etc. Japanese fanfic writers are really creative about this stuff.

For my part I just want to see more Shinichi adventures.

I know this has probably been asked for decades, and most people would just say to let it go, but how the hell does Conan not get caught up in any bureaucratic/administrative problems?

He is able to enroll in elementary school without any documents, let alone his parents' involvement, and he's been treated at the hospital several times.

The one and only time this became an issue was with international air travel, but that was easily remedied by taking the antidote and flying with his real passport as Kudo Shinichi.

I won't stop you, just keep in mind the majority of cases aren't important for the main plot, only 20% or so of the chapters matter

I managed to read a ~200 chapter series in a matter of days. If I was in a rush, I could probably read all of Conan within 2 weeks. If I slow it down, I could stretch it to a few months. If I crawl to a snail's pace, I could still do it in less than a year. Long-running series aren't as intimidating as they look.

My fantasy is that Shinichi and Ran both join the police force and work side by side, Shinichi as the brains and Ran as the brawn. I think this dynamic is underutilized for them even though they're suited for it.

I'm not sure I see Mitsuhiko or Ayumi as police officers. They both seem a little too physically weak to join as recruits. Mitsuhiko would be suited to some intellectual career like science or medicine, while Ayumi is a girly girl and might end up in a fashion boutique or as an OL or something.
Genta maybe would be suited for the police. I hope he defies expectations and grows up to be smarter than he looks.

I gotta say, they never really made Ran's career preferences very clear. It's pretty obvious that Shinichi wants to be a full-time detective, Hattori can probably get a job in the police force via nepotism, Sonoko isn't hurtin' for money, and Sera probably also wants to be a detective. But no idea what Ran (and I guess Kazuha) want to do in the future.

I hope some fansubber with a lot of time on his hands edits the remastered episodes into having the original OP/EDs and post-hint stingers. The contrast of having to see classic episodes sandwiched by modern digital rhino horn art is really jarring.

Yea I don't know why they didn't just remaster all the OPs and EDs since it seems like they're capable of it. Hell, even the remastered Nazo and connected ED only aired with both parts of the Artist Kidnapping Case and not with any other episodes that have those credits. I can at least understand the next conan hints because if they aren't airing the next episode following that remaster it'd be incorrect for NEXT conan. I think they did this with the first episode because they scheduled episode 2 the next week but they usually just jump around with remastered episodes and weeks they air.

This is why we desperately need them to release the remasters on Bluray or some other way, because it's annoying when they cut out scenes for time or edit down the gore for current audiences. Classic Conan isn't something you should edit to pieces, I actually prefer watching it with grain but the remasters are good for on a large TV or grabbing screenshots. It always pisses me off when they cut out a good scene, or one with a nice design, and it especially pissed me off when they ruined the first episode by cutting out the head falling next to the kid (the scene was still there but they digitally removed the head passing the screen) and removed the scenes showing the decapitation.

We likely wont even get remasters of good episodes because of this, like the Mountain Villa Murder which also has a decapitation, along with other shots of severed limbs. In fact, the entire plot couldn't happen without the guy carrying the girl's head in his jacket, so they can't just skip the part with her head falling off (which would fuck up the body discovery scene anyway)
