Well the tv series was really fucking dumb but the OVA felt like half a story. I still think the OVA is superior, the tv series just got too weird. And the actual competition was better in the OVA.

Just finished OVA/TV series a few days ago, really nice watch.
Both series had their strong points.
Akari was fun to watch when she got series but my God was she a poor sport. If only Itchan was the MC, it'd improve the series a lot.

Shame that they had to make the track and field events overly ridiculous to make it seem interesting, would've been a lot more enjoyable if they weren't running sub-9 100s, or using block starts for a 2k, or high jumping over like 6 m.
Didn't have enough sports action in general, could've benefited from seeing it from more angles. All we got were sparse "training" scenes, short competitions, vastly outnumbered by non-sports scenes.
Wish we could've seen them warming up, actually training for an extended period of time, all that good stuff.

Still a fun watch, very entertaining characters, and the ED of Victory was top tier.

To be fair, it was established at the beginning on the OVA that aliens existed and were the reason behind University Satellite, but I agree, I wasn't expecting the final competition to actually be against the Nerilians. It ended up being an entertaining enough ending once you got past the aliums part. Midoe could've been a little more serious to make the stakes seem higher, she was too flippant to instill fear.

The start of the TV series was kino, I especially liked the entire rivalry between Russia and US and Akari's development.
I liked that they didnt fuck around with giving her a proper wake up call.
