Mihono fits the mold for generic MC in a lot of ways, but it's offset by her actual incompetence and retardation. She's best used keeping the others motivated. So even in the game she's practically a dorky side character. It's a balance I think works well, and very differently from Kanami, who is alone, OP, and the actual hero of the story. Instead of stealing her spotlight Mihono is always in Kanami's shadow, and while she has her own internal struggle on that, she's settled on being too stupid to give up.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Toji, is in fact, Miko/Toji, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Toji no Miko. Toji is not an an occupation unto itself, but rather another skill set of a fully qualified Miko made useful by the utsushi, jin'i and vital okatana components comprising a full proficiency as defined by the Five Schools.
Many sword users use a modified version of the Miko system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Miko which is widely used today is often called “Toji”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Miko system, developed by the ancient Miko. There really is a Toji, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the abilities they use.
Toji is the proficiency: the training in the system that hones the abilities of the okatana user. The proficiency is an essential part of the occupation but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a fully qualified shrine maiden. Toji is normally used in combination with the Miko occupation: the whole system is basically Miko with Toji added, or Miko/Toji. All the so-called “Toji” girls are really girls who are Miko/Toji.

I am not so sure about that. Whilst Hiyoyon Blue does have large power resources, plus her Jin'i thing, she still isn't nearly as skilled as Kanami, combat-wise, particularly since she hasn't been training nearly as long (and not only because of Kanami's dream-hack, but if I remember correctly, Hiyori only took the sword rather recently, whereas Kanami has been dutifully training since she was a toddler).
So, whilst I can see Hiyori easily beating Kanami if she blitzes her and Kanami had no preparation whatsoever, in the long run Kanami would be able to adapt to a degree to Hiyori's abilities (which, despite powerful, are rather limited).

Yeah, but that would never fully prevent aradama from appearing and attacking humanity. The anime never solely paints new or old methods as the best approach. Enshrining noro is probably the most peaceful solution, but it doesn't do anything for the inherent loneliness aradama feel. The Mashiko method is the most effective but that involves hundreds of years of letting each aradama rampage as you try taming it.
