Apparently some people don't understand why Isekai is hated and play it down as a simple "plot device" to move the story forward, but there's so much more than that.

>1. Exposition
It's beyond me how people praise world building in series like Overlord and Slime when they all default to the same lazy exposition blocks time after time. In Overlord we just have Ainz speaking with the first old man he sees and then it's about 3 pages of exposition on how money works and what the countries are. This is the kind of thing that Isekais constantly make use of and pisses the hell out of me. It doesn't matter how interesting the world you created is when you are showing it to me like that. It carries no impact or sense of mystery with all becoming and endless stream of exposition blocks with people explaining things to the newcomer. It's lazy and does not amuse me.

Regular fantasy series however, can go the extra mile to make exposition feel more natural. If your character is living his entire life in that world he can deliver and receive important information through dialogue, meaning that exposition can be made in a more natural way as your characters interact. It's the difference between having a character taking the reader's place unilaterally receiving an information dumb and two people having a natural conversation that will inform the reader about that world.

I fucking hate those isekais where the MC was some old guy who was the strongest person in the universe, then he reincarnates and picks up random girls for no reason that he then trains.

Vol.9 when? The wait is killing me. C'mon, its time for him to go back to earth and be killed by his assistant.

It's so hard to get behind Isekai main character motivations. They have no attachment to the world they are transported to, making all their behavior be based on whims or first impressions. You get people who worked to death and now want to laze around, high schoolers with delusions and people who simply don't care about anything and just want to eat food or some shit It's too hard to relate or sympathize with most of these MCs, even more so when they are selfish pricks and edgelords that treat the world they live in now like a giant videogame and all the people they meet as NPCs.

When your character is in a world that they lived their entire life in, you usually have more depth to their behavior. Even if they have a motivation as simple as earning the daily bread as in Broken Mercenary, you get a character that makes sense. Loren spend his entire life on a battlefield, so his behavior fits his past experiences, which is not the case for a japanese nerd that spend his life playing Idolm@ster giving advice on what people oppressed by war should do.

Another great issue is what the core concept of Isekai is. It's a genre based on having an excuse to make lazy exposition, relate more easily with the reader and draw inspiration from other works to take shortcuts - you don't have to world build if you can just assume the reader knows what Dragon Quest is like or what the common isekai demihuman races are. It's inevitable that many authors are not developing the skills they should be developing to deliver a better writing and improve their works. Non Isekai books are harder to write and sell, and by taking this harder challenge authors can develop to a level above the Isekai crowd that never leave it's limited creative space. More often than not regular fantasy books have writing that's leaps and bounds above mainstream Isekai titles.

And regular fantasy can completely fail at it as well.

So that does not make a real difference between isekai and regular fantasy.

It's like glueing glass shards to your hamsters when they are in heat and watch them brutally murder each other while they try to fornicate.

It's fun for a chapter or so, but afterwards you basically end up with useless pets that take away way too much time from your life. The MC is already all powerful, why would I want to watch some stupid regular girls training? I like isekai specifically because it usually skips the whole training shit.

I think the name "death mage" is more fitting because Necromancy is generally just magic that has to do with the dead, wheras Death Magic involves anything that's related to the concept of death itself. As a comparison, it would be like calling controlling ash as the same thing as controlling fire just because fire creates ash. Death Magic has dominion over not just the effect, but the cause too.

If you look at DnD, you will find that spells that protect you from death, as well as healing spells are necromancy.
