you really can't hate on the shitty CG when the rest of the show looks gorgeous pretty consistently. The CG will grow on you too, I hated it at first but changed my mind before the end of First Stage. It's definitely a product of its time and the visuals are part of that.

I think the CG adds to the charm, seeing them progressively go from ps1 models to high quality cars that still hold up in Final Stage gives it a feeling of how time has passed. Plus if the new ovas are anything to go by the animated cars would need a budget the anime just didn't have

look i love traditional animation too but this is a tv production and the races are filled with shots that would be prohibitively time consuming to do with 2d. an initial d without cg wouldn't be the same show but better, it would be the same show but stripped of the dynamic camera movements and whipping curves that in large part allowed them to make the races so gripping.

I wholeheartedly agree. I like Dagumi and the Spin Twins but it would've been nice to see the focus shift to some of the more interesting supporting characters, it's not as if none of them had ever interacted with each other before so you'd have an easy time expanding upon pre-existing character relationships. IMO the final battle should've been between Takumi and Itsuki
